  1. If you knowingly parked in a disabled bay, you don't get any sympathy from me I'm afraid. If you learn a lesson from it and don't park there again (or people who read this thread take warning), then I'd say that the fine is doing its job. We all know what it's like to have too much to do and not enough time, but these spaces are there to help out people who have genuinely difficult lives!
  2. I like the idea of imposing a huge fine on them. There are pros and cons of Nero being on LL - and although they have smartened up the street somewhat, I don't like to think that they're setting a precedent for other big businesses to force their way in.
  3. Macroban, where is Lordship Lane Station?!
  4. I also wouldn't be surprised if it went for over the asking price. 700k seems to be the going rate for a 4 bed terrace (in good condition), so 850k for this house - which frankly looks awesome - seems like a relative bargain.
  5. "Cafe Nero > has therefore had a positive effect on the > vitality of the key shopping frontage and Dulwich > as a whole". There is probably some truth in that, to be honest.
  6. I'm also in a one bed flat. for the last quarter, gas was ?50, electicity ?130. So that works out as ?45 per month. I think you're being ripped off, Fractionater!

HH has it's own postcode, and the area is clearly marked on the map as "Herne Hill". That's enough to convince me that it is distinct from Brixon or Dulwich. The Half Moon is around a 25 min walk from where I live (halfway along Lordship Lane). You may wish to consider the Village as the centre of Dulwich, but this forum is specific to East Dulwich.
  8. DPF - don't have a go at Sean! He's clearly just concerned that this incident hasn't received more media attention.

I think we should put an Englishman or two in the Scottish Parliament now, to redress the balance!
  10. EDT, Black Cherry, Bishop, and Inside 72. Plenty of food options round that area too (maybe Tandoori Nights or the Turkish place). Green and Blue is nice too, but probably more suited to quieter evenings. Not so keen on the Mag or Liquorish personally.

  12. > I actually rent a flat from Tilt. They own over > 100 flats/properties in and around the gardens. > They seem to have a complete monopoly in this > area, pricing other individuals out of the buying > market. I almost bought an ex-rental flat from Tilt, on Barry Road. They accepted the offer, but then pulled out because they'd decided to sell it to someone else as part of a batch. That's enough to convince me never to deal with them again!
  13. Chandlier shop, antique dealer, tea room, restaurant and bar. Is the owner absolutely stark raving mad?! I'm looking forward to it though, it's "quirky" places like this which made ED unique(ish).
  14. "Hippy market"? "Bromley"?! This is vintage material Louisa! Keep it up!
  15. Nah, just grabbed it from findaproperty. I've been flathunting, so knew where to find the pic!
  16. David, I think you'll find this quite clearly looks like a castle! http://img.findaproperty.com/propertyindulwich/p1055982.jpg
  17. Oakhurst Grove is awesome. I like the way all the houses look like castles.

To be honest - a lot of what Louisa says is nonsense... but I do enjoy her posts nonetheless!
  19. 1%-1.5% is typical for an agents fee at the moment - 2% is a rip-off!! You may have to negotiate though. You neglected the conveyancing/search fees (maybe around 3k - 4k for a sale and a purchase?)
  20. Karter, wasn't it you who said that no. 6 was gonna be another branch of "Sugar Momma"?
  21. DD - afraid I don't have the time or inclination to answer all your points, but suffice to say that I don't agree. Of course I understand that people want to make money, but I think the trend of buy-to-let is unhealthy, and maybe even damaging to our society. And I know that I am not alone in finding your views disagreeable. And actually pretending that these landlords are in some way contributing to the community? Give me a break! And I never said there was anything wrong with the smartening up of ED, I think the area is great - much better than 6/7 years ago.
  22. Foresters was a dump! Although admittedly I never visited it during it's 90s heyday.

Asset - leave it. Louisa has nothing but contempt for the "newcomers" who have ruined "her" East Dulwich, what with all their "posh" bars, restaurants, and shops. Compromise and logical debate will not prevail, and getting p!ssed off certainly will not!
  24. Well, a house is worth what other people are prepared to pay for it. It's hard to make a stand when the next punter will happily pay 600k for a 3 bed terrace.
  25. Alan Dale Wrote: > I also think that whilst housing is a necessity, > homeownership is a luxury. Especially if that home > is in such a desirable area as East Dulwich. > True, I know that on the continent, renting is generally much more common (how many people do you know in England who rent family homes?) But don't increases in property prices also push up rent?
