  1. I think G&B is great!
  2. One well known pizza/pasta chain offers free bottled filtered water. I know most of us are anti-chain, but some times independent businesses can learn a thing or two from them. (Saying that, I'm not suggesting G&B do the same thing: after all, they are a shop/bar and not a restaurant).
  3. It looks like a pretty heavy duty refurb, it has been totally gutted! Walls seem to have been stripped down to the bricks. It did look pretty grotty before, this can only be a good thing.
  4. Ducks are lovely creatures... but can be noisy, and would drive the local residents mad!
  5. > Is that true? Yep, more or less. 8:04, 8:15, 8:35, 8:56, 9:20 > Does it matter if it's every 20 minutes? It matters when you're squashed in nose-to-nose! And it matters even more if you miss the train because the buses aren't running on time. But this has all been discussed before. There are areas of London as nice as ED with decent transport links, but they're a lot more expensive. Anyway, going off topic...

  7. They're definitely coming to ED. I think it's the place next to St Thomas Moores hall... i.e. two doors to the right of the Irish Shop.
  8. Yes, Gracelands Palace on Old Kent Rd, home of Paul "Elvis" Chan, has now been turned into a Nepalese place. There is still a branch of Gracelands Palace in Tunbridge Wells, when Mr Chan still sings regularly. I can also vouch for The Peninsular, their dim sum is generally top notch. It reminds me a lot of some of the "neighbourhood" restaurants in Hong Kong.
  9. I reckon this is going to harm Dulwich... it seems as though all of our neighbours are getting improved trasnsportation, but surely our need is as great as any!
  10. There's the new ES physical place, opening in the big old empty buidling on LL.
  11. > You can always pick up fish from the seacow wet > and cook it yourself Wow, I didn't know that... what is the price like? > I hate trying to justify to my boss once > every three weeks why I need to leave early again > just to get my prescription renewed! Most doctors will post your prescription to you, if you provide a S.A.E.
  12. Yams Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > or the new fishmongers (still haven't tried it, is > it good?) Yep. It's not cheap, but they have some nice, fresh fish in there.
  13. Out with the chain stores! Surely we'd rather have a nice, local, independent, organic sex shop?
  14. Yep, I also recently suggested a late shopping evening on another thread. I really think it would work, especially for the butcher, fishmonger, delis, etc. And maybe even for all the gift/trinket shops which have sprung up.
  15. No Keef, not necessary at all! Back on the bag subject... I found out that only co-op and tesco use biodegradable carrier bags. Sainsburys did trial biodegradable bags a few years ago, but chose not to use them... so it's certainly not a good idea to throw away household waste in Sainsburys carrier bags!
  16. I actually think that Cafe Noodle isn't bad for what you pay... I'm not sure if you'd call it a restuarant as such, but you can certainly eat in! Agree that Chopsticks isn't really that great, it's only redeeming feature is the garden, which is quite nice. Mr Liu's is certainly old school (it reminds me of the sort of Chinese restaurants my parents would take me to when I was young), but I don't really rate it personally.
  17. Post removed Sorry Jeremy (see the post above) The Administrator
  18. Do you mean the blue bike lockers, which you have to rent? That isn't really the same thing, is it?
  19. louisiana Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not a car park. A cycle park >:D< I've just come back from Japan, where a lot of the stations have loads (ie hundreds) of lockable cycle racks, for just over one pound a day. It would be very handy to have the same thing here. Mind you... this being London, the racks (and bikes) would probably just get vandalised.
  20. Sorry, probably didn't explain very well. A lot of people use carrier bags as bin liners, hence no need to buy additional bin liners. If they didn't get plastic bags they'd have to buy bin liners, so they're not cutting down their plastic consumption.

Yes, a nice traditional pub on LL would be great. But Foresters was certainly not nice, and not particularly traditional either (although very handy if you wanted to buy lunch for ?2). Most would agree that the Bishop is a big improvement.

  23. So Dub, what do you put your rubbish in at home? Do you by any chance buy plastic waste bags?
  24. In the defence of blinder, I've never actually had a drink in my local either (although I have briefly set food in there on occasion). If it's not your kind of place, then it's fair enough.
  25. Both myself and one of my mates have happened to notice a particular estate agent who works along LL... but given her occupation, she is probably the devil in disguise.
