  1. (td) Snow Patrol are poor, especially live. The singer just cannot sing (td) Razorlight are abysmal - rehashed Boomtown Rats! (td) Babyshambles (td)(tu) New stuff by Kaiser Chiefs and Killers are OK, but not up there with their previous records in my opinion. (tu) Hot Club De Paris (tu) Built To Spill (tu) Death Cab For Cutie
  2. I quite liked the food on my one visit to Gourmet Burger. But it is overpriced, and I didn't really like the fast-food style atmosphere and all the little kids in there. Still, it seems to be a hit with the young families, so they're obviously doing something right.
  3. And there hasn't been any action yet in/around the old Walsh Glazing unit, as far as I can see...
  4. What is GBB? Not sure if LL could sustain a Japanese restaurant, most Jap restaurants I know of (with the exception of Yo Sushi, Itsu, etc) rely heavily on Japanese/Asian customers, of which there are very few in the area. There's a very nice, and reasonably priced Japanese in Upper Norwood/Crystal Palace, and it's usually quite empty.
  5. Still can't figure out why Surma was voted the best - very run-of-the-mill, curries were greasy and tandoori was too dry. Service was slow, decor very tatty. In fact, it might get my vote for the worst (although I don't think I've tried them all yet).
  6. Mixulee - good point, why bother making your shop look nice. After all, it's not as if you'll get more customers if your shop doesn't look like a total sh!t hole. I do agree that a lot of the shops sell useless nik-naks, but it's better to have them there than empty, boarded up shops. Or worse still - "one pound" stores...
  7. Where is Cheers?
  8. And let's not forget this incident in Peckham, which happened yesterday: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/6417095.stm These armed robberies are certainly concerning, but it's these random acts of violence which really scare me. And Dulwich is still much safer than Peckham, even the less up-market parts like Goodrich Rd! (just kidding, any Goodrich residents...)
  9. I post with my real name! And I'm not worried about any legal action, because as far as I'm concerned we have evidence to back up the claims. By the way Bawdy-nan: have you been to Egypt recently?!
  10. Happy to go down there if others want to - I'm not going on my own though, they might beat me up! I don't even have a pointy hat, I wouldn't stand a chance.
  11. I only used my card last month in 2 ED retailers, one of which was the petrol station. I've since convinced myself that the other retailer is innocent.
  12. I would actually consider getting a brand new card, and ONLY using it at the petrol station, if I thought that the police would act on any evidence. But I honestly don't believe they would. I am all for the vigilante action.
  13. Not surprisingly - the Police are not even slightly interested, despite the fact that this activity is continuing on our doorstep. I only hope that word gets round to not use cards to when buying petrol locally. I appreciate Snorky's calls not to point the finger, but when the Police won't help out, I believe that we should take the matter into our own hands by spreading the word.
  14. I've also used the *fuel supplier's name removed* garage by xxxxx xxxxx at least once this month. Will check the statement tonight to find the dates.
  15. Trev - again, if you want to compare notes on local transactions, I'd be happy to. I think it can only really be 4-5 places.
  16. Someone tried to use my Visa in Egypt just the other day too! I hadn't used it in any cash machines for a long time, so that rules out ATM tampering, at least for me. Mark - can you send me a private message with what shops and restaurants you have used recently in the ED area, maybe we can put out heads together?
  17. I can't wait to hear the answer to this one! But Jen, why don't you tell us who you are, and how you happen to know this information?
  18. The slow and rude service is the worst thing. Some of the incidents that me and my friends (on separate occasions) have witnessed in there are just unforgivable.

I wasn't that happy to see Nero open up, but to be honest it is a damn sight better than Blue Mountain (slow & rude service, exepnsive prices, very average food and drinks)
  20. At least the buildings are "red-brick", and more in keeping with the area than the horrible newer flats and houses which have gone up near the station and on DKH. Just my opinion, anyway...
  21. I think there's now a branch of Franklins in Stockwell or Kennington or somewhere. And Sea Cow opened in Clapham shortly after ED. But I don't really class these as chains either...
  22. So what's the problem with the Dog Kennel Hill flats then? Frankly, there are much worse looking council flats in South London. Although admittedly, judging by the amount of boarded up properties, it looks like a bit of a refurbishment is needed...

I did actually prefer the old Mag... admittedly it was rather tatty... but it had a certain charm, and it was great to have a good comedy club on your doorstep. I never go in there now, apart from the occasional quiz night.
  24. Banksy is too busy making a fortune, and putting on exhibitions in LA.

Whether the customers are idiots or not, it's obvious that they are offering something people want. Small shops cannot compete these days, if they're just selling the same old stuff as the supermarkets. This is not unique to East Dulwich. You cannot blame this phenomenon on the evil newcomers who have infiltrated your beloved neighbourhood!
