  1. I think "racist" is incorrect, and an inappropriate accusation. I do agree with the essence of your post though, Nero - there's nothing exciting about Rye Lane.
  2. The Turkish shop is good value for fruit and veg (only a small selection though).
  3. > lending the government a bob or two at > the end of the week when we?re a bit skint." They already do that, it's called a bond. The lounge beckons.
  4. William Rose and Moxons are my favorite shops in ED. I also like SMBS, Pretty Traditional, and the Turkish Shop for fruit and veg. I'd like to use these shops all the time... but when it's 8pm on a Wednesday night and I get home realising I have no food, it really has to be Sainsburys or Safeways.
  5. Where is this new coffee shop, TedMax? Are we talking about the tea & chandelier place next to Cafe Noodle?
  6. I actually think they make a valid point (although off topic). People in other threads have moaned about the communities not integrating... but maybe this is not surprising when the lynchpin of some communities is so alien to many of us.
  7. Agreed... when reading the original post, it certainly seemed to suggest that they were trying to rip off your disabled son. It's a serious accusation, which seems to have little evidence to back it up.
  8. I don't think that Peckham is "wonderfully edgy". I think that Rye Lane is smelly, dirty, and feels unsafe after dark. North Peckham is even worse. I cannot really agree with Michael P's rose-tinted view.
  9. Reminds me a bit of the "d**ks f**k p***ys" speech in Team America...
  10. Peckham probably smelled a lot worse back then, I think the sewerage system is a bit better these days!
  11. Definitely up for the walk in the woods followed by beer...
  12. The area round the station is in dire need of attention. Peckham definitely can be an intimidating place, and not just for older people. The narrow passages outside Peckham Rye station are a disaster of town planning. And although busy during the day, it can be eerily quiet in the evenings. I would be scared stiff if I thought my girlfriend was walking along there on her own at night.
  13. I don't think the market is *crashing*, but it's certainly not as busy as it was in early spring. As Serendipity said, a lot of places were overvalued, and some sellers/agents/developers have really been taking the p!ss with their asking prices. And there are a lot of flats on the market right now, some have been on for quite a while... buyers are in a position to drive a hard bargain at the moment.
  14. To be honest, most of the nearby places which have any entertainment (eg ice skating, bowling, cinema) tend to be fairly dodgy areas. Maybe they'll just be happy grabbing some dinner in one of the local restaurants? Or maybe going to see a band in town, if they're into music?
  15. Frisco Wrote: > I only stop there for the tip. Refined and sedate > indeed. Me too! There doesn't seem to be much else there, I've not really seen much evidence of all the wonderful cafes and bars (well, Cafe Rouge and The Rosendale).
  16. There used to be one on LL a few years back, think it's a curry place now (the Coriander?)
  17. Lets not forget that when it comes to hospitals, there are more important things than the way they look. The old building was/is in a poor state of repair, and pretty minging inside.
  18. Also, I've noticed that the Hayes Grove properties have not been re-selling well. Probably something to do with the cramped interior, possibly also because new build properties can start to look dated very quickly.
  19. I've actually found the Plough DIY shop pretty unhelpful too. All I wanted was a wall mounted box for an electrical socket, the guy didn't have a clue!!
  20. Are you at the Harvester end of ED then, Sean? Does the 197 go to Crystal Palace? Or is it another one? But if people live at the other end of ED and the journey isn't convenient, then they might be better off going into town where they can get something better and cheaper.
  21. I've been to the GV15 flats. The asking price for the 2 bed ones was ?355k-?385k, and as LostThePlot says, the 1 beds are in the upper-mid 200s range. They are actually quite nicely finished, and I loved the huge windows (shame they look over a railway track). But they all have pretty small "open plan" kitchen and living rooms. You really don't get a lot of space for the money... although you do get two good size double bedrooms.
  22. I know! They must have seen me coming!
  23. Edo in Crystal Palace is OK. The sushi is above average (by London standards), but not cheap. The noodle and rice dishes are good value though. It's worth a trip if you have a car or bike.
  24. I bought some shoes from there once. They were rubbish.
