  1. It's not like the good old days, when nobody living in East Dulwich had been to University.
  2. It's not the only clothes shop on LL, there's one up near the Plough. But it looks a bit shoddy.
  3. Yeah... didn't mean to sound like a tw@t, btw. But people here often draw comparisons with Clapham, and the truth is that the property in Clapham is really much more mixed than ED. Sure you have some nice roads with expensive, well maintained properties - but you also have some horrible roads, and pretty rough estates.
  4. You've obviously not seen much of Clapham if you think that almost very home has been tarted up!

There's supposed to be some sort of redevelopment project going on, but I have yet to see any concrete evidence of this.
  6. I imagine you are right, Louisa. It must be quite a large plot, what with the stables and car parking at the back.
  7. "The London police stations targeted for closure are mainly in run-down areas such as Rotherhithe, Camberwell, Streatham, Brockley and Brixton. Others at risk include East Dulwich." I'm glad we weren't lumped into the "run-down areas" bracket!
  8. I think the pubs are generally pretty good. Apart from the 2 or 3 obviously rubbish ones.

Aha - conclusive evidence of alien vists! Don't get me wrong, I think it's inevitable that aliens are out there, I'm just a bit cynical when it comes to most reported sightings.
  10. Sounds unlikely to me. If aliens wanted to announce their presence, surely they'd make the signs far more obvious than this. And if they wanted to remain discrete, why hover around shining bright orange lights?
  11. Can you fell a palm tree by licking it?
  12. Well... I have to pace myself, otherwise I tend to fall asleep. But that's not the point, dammit!

  14. I appreciate that driving is harmful to the environment, as well as being a relatively unsafe form of transport. And don't get me wrong, I'm a great believer in public transport generally, and do use it *most* of the time. But as a general rule of thumb, if a journey is going to take me double the time on public transport, then I consider getting in the car instead. Call me selfish if you like, but I believe that I am in the majority here. I just think that the emphasis should be on improving public transport, rather than taxation on motorists. That way, driving becomes the priviledge of the wealthy, which is surely not right.
  15. Surely the government should be improving the public transport to tempt people into taking it, rather than cranking up taxes on motorists. I really don't like the preachy attitude some people have, branding motorists as "irresponsible" when our public transport network is so unreliable, and already seems to be full to capacity.
  16. I don't mind the DKH flats so much, I just think they're stupidly overpriced. There are perfectly good 2 bed period conversions in ED for around the 300k mark, which offer more living space than these places.
  17. Loz> I can assure you I was in no mood for "relief"!
  18. On the 176 last night, on the way home from the west end (way later than my usual bed time) - a guy who eventually got off in ED was giving the driver all sorts of hassle, holding the bus up for all the other customers. I really can't blame the drivers for being in a bad mood, given all the grief they have to put up with. I was also sitting next to a little old lady, who drunkenly told me how most people think she looks 20 years younger, and that guys my age still check her out. I was very relieved when we got to my stop.
  19. Agree that driving in London is not a necessity (for most of us), but I personally wouldn't be without a car in ED. It saves me several hours a week. If you make do just fine without a car then that's great, but don't assume that the same is convenient for others.
  20. The clothes in the "ED" shop are expensive, I think. Mens shirts for ?60, t-shirts for over ?30, etc. I'd be more likely (but still not very likely) to shop in White Stuff.
  21. People keep on making the same suggestions for the kind of places they'd like to see opened, but unfortunately I doubt that many of them would be viable businesses.
  22. I think it's a Simpsons joke...
  23. To be honest I don't think that's too bad, whoever views the house will quickly notice that one of the "bedrooms" is in fact a kitchen. And it's only a weekends work to rip a kitchen out.
  24. Sean - the police station (or part of the plot)? Very unlikely to happen though, building 10 flats would be much lower risk.
