I'm willing to believe this theory. But even if it's wrong, the results could be entertaining.

No... East Dulwich Grove. It runs between Lordship Lane and North Dulwich / Dulwich Village.

Yeah... I'm sure the adventure bar guy is reading, but seriously - what damage limitation could he possibly do, after having his new bar almost universally slated? There's nothing he could say now which wouldn't be met with a negative response. Although I'm sure he's taking the more constructive comments on board. -
Melbourne Grove practice used to be pretty good... only 3 or 4 years ago, you could phone up in the morning and get a same day appointment. Has their number of patients really shot up to such unmanageable levels?

I'm mostly over it now... (commute this morning)

I was in the same situation... the same train was cancelled one day last week too, I seem to remember. Sorry, am not about to risk life and limb by competing with the buses on a bike! -
I don't buy it, Pierre. It is only *absolutely* noon or midnight for a single point in time. It is impossible to pinpoint a time where it's bang-on noon or midnight, it will always be slightly before or slightly after. So in practise, 12am actually means a time ever so slightly after midnight, perhaps even an infinintely small period of time after midnight. So therefore I'm happy with the simplification of declaring 12am as being equivalent to midnight!

As for "gay" being cool... give me a break!

I think there's been a mix-up in this article. I think it's really referring to the axing of the London Bridge to Victoria loop - via Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill, Clapham High Street, etc... which we've known about for a while. I don't think there are plans to axe London Bridge services from East Dulwich.

I get your point Cassius, but I don't necessarily agree. Threshers is was it is, somewhere to go and get a few cans of Stella or a bottle of Jacob's Creek. They sell established brand names to the less adventurous customer, and I think there's a market for that. If you want to go somewhere and get wine advice, and maybe come out with something a bit more interesting, then there are other options locally.

Marmora Man - yes, of course you're right. This is why the various "water-powered car" scams going around at the moment are such a load of nonsense. But it may be worth losing some of the energy if it means it can be stored.... perhaps?

We saw a mouse in our kitchen... put a couple of ultrasonic repellants out the next day, and never saw one again (or any evidence of mice). Might just be a coincidence though.

0.12 mph... at about 3% of walking pace, your girl sounds rather slow. Even if she was a double amputee, I'd expect her to muster a crawl of around 0.5 mph.

I didn't go last night, but going on the descriptions... where did all these "pretty boys" and "tarted up girls" come from all of a sudden on the first night of opening? -

When we arrived at the first place, and the owner wasn't expecting us, I put it down as a genuine mistake. When we arrived at the second place and the agent tried to get into the wrong house, I started to realise that he was a bit dim. I finally lost interest when he tried to convince me that a 400k 2 bed flat was a good buy.

I was also thinking something along the lines of hydrogen... it looks like the most viable fuel for the next generation of cars, companies are investing in the technology... The problem with storing it as potential energy (pumping water, weights on pulleys, etc) is that surely it consumes an awful lot of space?

Judging by all the piles of pipes, I assumed it was water or gas mains replacement. Why don't you phone the council, I'm sure they will be most concerned that residents are being woken at 8am!

warning. big brother police state tactics in effect at herne hill crossroads
Jeremy replied to eater81's topic in The Lounge
It makes me laugh when people complain about "money-grabbing" from traffic cameras... as if the govenment are in some way selfish for enforcing the law. Do you imagine that this money is just going straight into some councillor's pocket? Besides, you obviously won't be doing it again, so the camera and the fine has served its purpose. In the meantime, accept that you've f***ed up and pay the fine. If you don't want to be treated like a child, don't act like one, with all this talk of "big brother police state". -
In a strange way, I miss the old exterior. But I guess it would have made any upstairs flats unsellable...

regarding predictability - none of these sources are continuous, so surely with any of them, the energy needs to be stored so it could be drawn upon on demand?
-
I think the problem with all the renewable sources is just that they're too expensive. Unfortunately the average consumer would rather their power was as cheap as possible, regardless of environmental factors. The energy companies don't have an incentive for really investing in cleaner energy. Also it seems that whenever a windfarm is planned, there is a massive resistance from the local population. Should the government have the power to override these local concerns? Doesn't sound like vote-winner...

Charlie has every right to tell us about his experiences in this - or any other - shop. If I was looking for a bike shop, I'd want a rounded account of experiences, both good and bad... and this thread provides that. Just because it's independant, local, blah blah doesn't mean it's exempt from criticism.

Si Mangia is fine for what it is - basic Italian - but not really the kind of place you'd go to treat yourself. Chapter Two in Blackheath is a good bet for best in SE London... good value too, for the quality of food.
