It's only a privileged few who are able to follow their passion for a living (even if that means sacrificing wealth in order to do so, they've still had the luxury to make that choice). Not that I'm suggesting this is necessarily applicable to the Picturehouse debate, mind you.
  2. Surely fully electric is a non-starter unless you have off-street parking?
  3. We like it. It's basic... nothing trendy or remarkable, but the pizzas taste good and the staff are (is?) welcoming. One thing we noticed is that the tomato sauce has a really intense, sweet tomatoey flavour. Crispy bases make a change from the seemingly ubiquitous chewy sourdough.
  4. I made a similar mistake a few years ago, and bought a fairly nice-ish car without checking the emissions/tax first. TBH it was pretty stupid of me. Looking at getting some sort of hybrid in the next year or so, I think.

It would seem both logical and feasible. But remember, pretty much the same thing happened in the 80s.. e.g. Labour moderates broke away and formed the Social Democrats. Which, a few years later merged with the Liberals to become the Lib Dems. They never really became a serious force, so I imagine most Labour MPs are wary of a repeat performance. Meanwhile, Rachel Johnson (Boris' sister) has joined the Lib Dems as a sort of protest against Brexit. Which some are interpreting as a coup for the LD, but I'm not sure whether endorsement from a Daily Mail columnist is really a step in the right direction.

  7. Yep. On a human level I can understand the disenchantment with the Lib Dems after the coalition, especially as this country is so used to two party politics. But logically it makes no sense.

  9. Yes a nasty character. But I suspect it's not the first we've seen of him. Nor the last.
  10. LouiseC Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You were saying Jeremy...? Sorry, still doubt they were hacked. Maybe a phone or PC left unattended, or simply a staff member who thought it was funny. (That doesn't mean I hold the owners responsible, or that this ridiculous "boycott" is justified).
  11. Come on, what sort of a politician DOESN'T want a job in government? The chance to influence policymaking and the governing of the country... isn't this their whole raison d'etre? I think it's a given that careerism has a part to play with most politicians. But honestly, if I was a power-hungry career politician, I probably wouldn't join the Lib Dems!
  12. Dogkennelhillbilly Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The time I voted Lib dem was the time they went into coalition I've heard a lot of criticism recently for the Lib Dems entering the coalition. I wonder, what were the alternatives? Labour and Lib Dems couldn't have mustered a majority between them. Was the coalition worse than a minority conservative government?
  13. I highly doubt they've been "hacked". I suspect they've simply delegated social media to the wrong staff member. I'm sure it's been dealt with.
  14. I've never voted Tory, but for all their considerable faults, I would probably rather have the Cameron govt back than either May or Corbyn.
  15. Boycott a company over the actions of an individual person (maybe an employee, maybe not), that the company has since apologised for and distanced itself from. Yes that makes perfect sense.
  16. I tend to alternate between LibDem and "moderate" Labour. Corbyn is a joke, so LibDem this time for me. Saying that, nobody but Labour has any hope in the C&P constituency.
  17. The Vauxhall that looks like it's been in a crash? I'm not sure if it's really abandoned, the fact that it's on a pair of little ramps would seem to indicate that somebody's having a go at some DIY repairs. But I don't know how long it's been there. By all means report it to the council if you think it's really abandoned.

The current directions of tory/labour mean that for many of us, there is no other realistic option. Just think what they could achieve with a decent leader.
  19. Yep. New manager. No barbecue. New "burger menu" (or something).
  20. 25K sounds a lot, when you consider that you can do a loft conversion for not a lot more (including full staircase, removing of joists/struts, considerable steelwork, plumbing, electrics, etc.).

There are precautions you can take which may possibly reduce the chances of being a target. So it's your call. As for technology to render stolen phones useless - yes I agree, but until it is commonplace AND installed/activated by the majority of owners, then thieves will still target them. In the meantime you have to be a bit pragmatic.
  22. Yeah it does sound like there might perhaps be some sort of "beef". Not that it's going to make much difference to the outcome.
  23. Similar thing happened to Hoopers, I believe. Let's hope The Gowlett doesn't go the same way, it's a cracking little local. I wonder if anything can be done on a practical level to lend support to their appeal - i.e. rather than just tweeting "I support you"? Surely several supportive local residents should outweigh one complaint?

Farron's beliefs do trouble me a bit. I can't help but think about Blair's "God told me to go to war with Iraq" moment. Aside from the fact that he was quite obviously deluded, it raises the question of whether we really want to put such power in the hands of somebody who looks to the supernatural for practical or moral guidance. But given the opposition, I'm prepared to cut him some slack.

Exactly this. His beliefs do put me off a bit, and in some ways seem at odds with the modern, progressive party they want to be - but he has stated his religion is a private matter which should have no bearing on his politics. He is anti faith school, and has called for disestablishment of the church. He is much more of a secularist than Theresa May, who is actually giving faith schools MORE freedom to discriminate based on faith.
