I agree all staff should get the living wage, but a boycott makes no sense unless you boycott all businesses that don't pay it. Just because they might show the occasional indie film, and have cultivated a less corporate image, doesn't mean they should be held to different standards.

Man in balaclava on Crystal Palace Road

nina_maniana Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I didn't realise it was against any law to wear a balaclava. You don't consider it threatening - or at least suspicious - behaviour? With an altitude of 30 metres, that stretch of Crystal Palace Road is an unlikely destination for winter sports. -
Do you have a car? If so, take them to the tip. Otherwise cut up and feed into the blue bin over the course of a few weeks..

Not sure I share the "good for them" sentiment. Unfortunately the end result was completely predictable... if they were so averse to alcohol, they were in the wrong business!

Yeah that one right in the middle of Borough Market (The Globe?) used to be a morning pub too. Think it's been tarted up now though.

Fair enough on the landline usage, but I don't think this "scam" is real.. just doesn't sound believable to me. Who would believe that a phone conversation - actually not even a conversation, just a solitary "yes" - is a legally binding contract?

Van Bookings at the Reuse and Recyling Centre
Jeremy replied to fredatkinson's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There used to be a guy on here with an MPV (so not subject to the 'van' rules), he'd take stuff to the tip for a reasonable fee... -

I read that it's likely to be a triple comb-over. So the hair on the upper back the head is left to grow long, and then combed forward. And then the hair from each side of the head is combed sideways and forwards, criss-crossing over the top. He must have someone doing it for him every morning.. it probably takes ages!

I'm on 4.77... I guess if you load/unload lots of stuff, aren't ready to go on time, etc then they might mark you down. I imagine a tip will get you 5*. On the subject of tipping - I do usually leave a tip (as long as it's not a "surge" fare), as the drivers really don't earn much. I know Uber is a bit controversial for a whole load of reasons, but it's just so damn convenient! And actually a real life-saver over the past year with the constant rail strikes. Leaving a couple of quid extra eases my conscience a bit.

I'm over that way a reasonable amount. Brixton is amazing for food now - some really good stuff in Pop Brixton as well as the "village", etc. I do miss the slightly more eclectic (dare I say "edgy", or maybe I just mean "fun") version of Brixton I remember from the turn of the millenium, but the current evolution suits middle-aged me nicely.

PR, you're starting to sound like a certain other EDF old-timer! Some people LIKE going out for breakfast and coffee!

I knew they were being trialled in SE London. Really can't see them lasting too long without their "minders" in tow. Unless future models include a sentry bot. -

Surely it doesn't come as a surprise that it's cheaper to buy from a fishmonger and eat at home? ?27 for 12 oysters is slightly on the steep side, but hardly extortionate. I'd certainly expect to pay over ?20 in a restaurant. -
Didn't mean to imply it was your personal line of thinking, titch ("not necessarily" is not the same as "never").

I don't it's so much of a stretch. I think we all have a stake in the success of our country. Of course, there are different ways of measuring "success". Having kids may or may not change your reasoning.

I rarely look at policies from a personal point of view. Voting a certain way is not necessarily an act of altruism or selflessness. If you believe certain policies are more likely to lead to the kind of society you want to live in, and your children to grow up in... it's a form of self interest in a way.

malumbu Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > That said - if there was enforcement of dodgy cars > - where the filter has broken down or worse still > removed by a dodgy garage Interesting. I was recently having a discussion with a minicab driver... I said I'd never buy a diesel car in London as I'd be concerned about the DPF clogging. He said "oh, just get it removed, everybody does it". I was pretty shocked that this was even a thing. malumbu Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > we needed a very light single seater > battery powered vehicle, that would have pedal assistance. Sounds like a nice idea, but for any EV in London, charging is a hurdle. Most of us do not have off-street parking. I've often thought that a plug-in hybrid would be great, running on electricity only for local low-speed driving, but there's no way of charging the bloody thing. Maybe hydrogen is the future?
