  1. North Dulwich to London Bridge should in theory be quite convenient, but the Southern trains are so abysmal (even when not striking), you'll need at least one backup option. Bus/bike to an overground station (Peckham Rye has a "cycle hub" storage thing). Maybe tube from Brixton, changing at Green Park?
  2. Another cheese shop? Could spell trouble for Mr Cheeseblock, unless he ups his game. I know people have been moaning about it/him, but the shop is part of the furniture on LL..
  3. Never encountered a tree which narrows the pavement so much I can't get the buggy through. Sometimes protruding roots are a nuisance, but I dare say that could easily be resolved. I dare that (as is often the case) Louisa does have a valid point beneath all the "ban buggies" bluster.
  4. Yes. That, and the fact that it's complete shite.

  6. I used to work for one of the big banks, and there was an ATM in the building foyer which always dispensed 50s where possible. Never had a problem spending them in Canary Wharf, but a different story locally or in the west end.
  7. LM - kids are only allowed in one side at The Actress (same applies to Victoria Inn), so not really 'anything goes'.
  8. I have no problem with this. Would rather know upfront, rather than spend money in a place we're not welcome. I'm sure there are other cafes to go to. Could East Dulwich do with a child-free cafe? Not sure. It might be OK on the weekends, but during the week you'd be eliminating a huge chunk of potential customers. Many of the pubs round here have child-free areas, so it's not as if there are no child-free options at all.
  9. As horrific as that sounds, HMB, can you imagine the scenes in my office when the powers-that-be decided that they would no longer provide green tea or oolong tea in the kitchenette? Surely in a modern, cosmopolitan, professional environment, expecting everyone to drink PG Tips is tantamount to forced cultural assimilation. True. Story.
  10. I don't drink tea every day, but I had some on Saturday. True story.
  11. I believe generally it's considered bad form to re-render over existing render (including pebbledash), because the lifetime of it will only be as good as the original render underneath it. In fact, the extra weight might cause it to come away sooner. But if you find a reputable builder who's willing to do it AND guarantee his work for a number of years, then fine...
  12. What Red Devil said.
  13. I can't decide whether that's a double chin, or a really fat neck.
  14. Also with removal, there's a danger that the original installers "roughed up" the brick surface to create a key for the render.. you might be left with a real mess that even repointing won't fix.
  15. I would think that painting it is the cheapest way of making it look acceptable. Our house has, unfortunately, been pebble-dashed, we just had the whole thing painted white which made it look (sort of) OK, at least in the medium term.
  16. Angelina Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Still confused about the trains - once an hour? Is > the timetable online correct? PR to North Dulwich - under normal circumstances you can expect around 5 trains per hour, but obviously during strikes it will be much reduced. TBH I wouldn't even bother trying, as they will inevitably struggle to adhere to the published timetable.
  17. Maybe because the OP and his/her family enjoy drinking it... stuff like that is important to some people you know...

    Power cut...

    OK. Well done malumbu.
  19. Rendel, Alice, I do understand your point. And I'm sure the nanny realises the severity of her mistake with hindsight.
  20. Yeah, I think some of the comments regarding the nanny are a bit unnecessary and might be upsetting if she were to read them. I imagine at the time her immediate instinct was probably to protect and comfort the children.

Lol... my poor father-in-law thought he'd blown the street's power by trying to connect to the Wi-Fi...

  23. I imagine because it's unproven, and could be, as you/Otta say, all a mistake. But that doesn't mean it probably is a mistake...
  24. The virgin stock router is a piece of junk. Have you turned it off (for ~10 secs) and on again?
  25. While I agree that there are other plausible explanations, to suggest that the nanny's story is either inaccurate or untrue is, IMO, a bit out of order...
