Interesting. My source shall be severely chastised. But generally both Cantonese and Mandarin speakers use simplified or traditional Chinese writing...

Sorry to hear that fox. Get plenty of rest. Do you have people nearby who can help with shopping, etc? The DMC curse strikes again. Do they still do the thing where you can see someone if you queue up before opening time? Not exactly ideal with a painful injury though (and in the cold to boot).

How often do your frequent and support East Dulwich's restaurants?
Jeremy replied to Mick Mac's topic in The Lounge
I've been to all of them I think, apart from Lordship (a bit out of the way for me). But these days most of our eating out is informal family friendly places at lunch time. Franco Manca, Hisar, Honest Burgers, work for us, as well as some of the pubs. Franklins, Palmerston, ToastED all decent but a bit expensive for a meal which could be ruined at any point by a bad tempered erratic toddler. Newcomers Bahn Bahn and Beautiful Pizza Boy are convenient and local... but IMO the food isn't quite there yet. -

Cleaning is tiring work, and deserves a fair wage. If you're worried about people working cash-in-hand, ask for an invoice and payment by bank transfer. Also, what's with people posting how much they're willing to pay a cleaner, handyman, labourer, etc to do a job? You're not the first. These people set their own rates, you don't dictate it to them... it's disrespectful and presumptuous.

Too many onion bhajis is a nice problem to have as far as I'm concerned. As for the slate... I think we can all agree it's a bit pass?, but if the food's OK, have a bit of a joke about it and move on... -

Problem is, you then have a choice between playing all your songs with that tuning, retuning mid-set, or carrying multiple instruments. So I've always avoided..

Yep... get rid of the silly slates, get rid of the burgers, and concentrate on good contemporary south Asian.. lots of tasty grill/tandoor things and seafood options... get a couple of interesting beers in, maybe. Sounds like the basics are there, but needs a bit of refining to tune into what people really want. -

Xmas sweets for the kids ward at kings THANK YOU!!!

I'll definitely contribute! As rendel says... put a reminder up nearer the time and I'll drop some stuff over. Wonder if it's worth contacting the big Sainsbury's to see if they can make a donation of sweets (and maybe small toys too?) -
Each to their own, Mick. Personally... I dislike financial obligation, and like owning things outright. So I go for ~3yr cars with low mileage that I can afford to buy in cash. No need to swap regularly unless personal situation changes (or you just like shiny new things)... Can't imagine why anyone would buy a brand new car in cash, unless they were seriously loaded.

I would have thought 10K or so should get you something pretty nice with reasonable mileage.

Possibly the current weak pound helped persuade them.

Surely vested interest on both sides of the argument make it intrinsically personal. And it's looking like an irreversible move, so more significant than other elections/referendums (in England at least) in memory. Then the remainers accusing leavers of shady motives (ignorance, nationalism, xenophobia). And leavers resenting being called ignorant racists...

Even if it says MPV in the name ? > > Although to be fair I cant see it described as an > MPV anywhere else. So and SUV it is. I guess there may be some ambiguity in the case of the enormous 7 seat SUVs (Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, and the absolutely gigantic Merc GLS that one of the mums in our nursery rocks up in every morning). But generally... off-road styling = SUV.

SUV with 7 seats.
-
Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > aren't both likely to be 4x4 ? Nope. The MPV almost certainly won't have 4WD, and SUV might do, but not necessarily. SUV: MPV

Aren't some people getting confused between an SUV and an MPV?
-
I'm thinking of getting one. Basically because there's lots of space (both cabin and luggage), it's easier to get kids in and out of car seats (I have a bad back), and I like the high driving position. Downsides - as RRR says, an estate would be better to drive. And most SUVs are diesel which seems impractical in London (modern diesels are fitted with DPFs, and designed for regular high speed driving).

Hallowe'en playlist for student bar - suggestions needed by tonight 30th!
Jeremy replied to Minitoots's topic in The Lounge
Yep, Ghostbusters and Thriller are surely essential. Boris the Spider, Bad Moon Rising, Highway To Hell.. Would also suggest Pet Cemetery (Ramones), Night of the Living Dead (Misfits), and I was a Teenage Werewolf (The Cramps) although doubt many teenagers are familiar with these bands other than logos on T-shirts. Would be reluctant to put "monster mash" on any playlist, but maybe later in the night when everyone is hammered... -
DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No one complained.. > > Pub.. Chippie.. home.. sorted. > > Going to the pub for Pizza.. WTF . Yeah but (to state the obvious) times have changed, and people want - often expect - pubs to have food available now. At least at the Gowlett they've kept things simple and essentially just offer one thing. Which IMO is far closer to the "beer, crips, nuts and pies" ethos, than the full a la carte menu that many pubs have now.
