It does seem incredible that someone who earns millions a year can get into such debt. I guess the only explanation must be that he is a complete f*cking idiot.

Louisa is just winding us up, as she has a beef with "fancy" burgers... try to ketchup, people...

BTW if you're actually dropping serious money on actual running shoes, you should go to a proper running shop where you can try them out on a treadmill - both at the same time!!!

As if we needed more pizza in ED and Peckham, it looks like these guys are coming to a permanent site on Rye Lane (near Pedler, Rosies, Old Spike, etc) http://www.pizzapickup.co.uk/ And rumours persist of a branch of Voodoo Rays, almost opposite... still in planning I believe, as they want to open until 3am, but this is unlikely to be granted.

Wuli is good, but you really need to stick in and around the Sichuan section of the menu (which is fairly small). People sometimes see the recommendations on here, then order crispy duck, sweet & sour, etc, then report back that it's not as good as their regular takeaway...

Loads... Camberwell Arms, Silk Road, FM Mangal, Crooked Well. Camberwell punches above it's weight when it comes to eating. Angels & Gypsies was a loss, always used to enjoy it. But it's not unusual for more established/expensive areas to be a bit more bland/safe with their offerings, with more interesting stuff to be found in up-and-coming parts.

'Le Chardon' changing hands/being sold
Jeremy replied to Fitzgeraldo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Le Chardon... eaten there three times I think. It's been a bit of a mixed bag... lovely food one time, a tough-as-leather steak another time, and a completely uninterested waitress another time (some people strangely find this endearingly "authentic" in a French restaurant, a clich? which IMO doesn't ring true). But hope it stays, and that there's no substance in these rumours. I love the interior, I love hearty French bistro food... they just need to iron out some creases. It's part of the furniture on LL, it should be a local institution like Franklins. -

I just thought that a novelty Caribbean themed restaurant seemed a little ironic given the fears of gentrification and social cleansing in the area that many have. BTW I live in Peckham - not that it's any of your concern. I probably do post too much on here, but that's none of your concern either!

My point mainly was that Lowlander was referring to the results of a survey specific to roads "around schools, in residential streets and in the centres of villages, towns and cities." While this may apply to probably all of ED, IMO it doesn't apply to all of Southwark IMO.

But major routes and 'A' roads away from busy shopping areas? I think they should still be 30.

Why does cider usually come in a larger bottle than beer?
Jeremy replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in The Lounge
I'm guessing... cider and ale (which are traditionally British drinks) come in 500ml bottles as it's close to a pint. Lager, of course, is an import. -

Man going through bins on Ivanhoe road
Jeremy replied to Fox_tail's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Problem is on Ivanhoe Rd is that most of the bins are on the street, rather than your own private property. So I don't think there's much you can do about it... just be careful when disposing of documents, etc. When I lived on Ivanhoe Rd, our neighbour used to put used nappies straight into the wheelie bin, un-bagged. The smell was something else... maybe it was their method of deterrent? -

Never been to 'Turtle Bay'. But it looks like Disneyfied Caribbean-lite for white people. Maybe an apt metaphor for the rapidly changing demographic of the area. Still, these chain places seem to have one big advantage - they tend to stay open all day. So good for families who want to eat at 5pm for instance. Options are pretty limited for an early dinner around Peckham Rye area, so I'm sure we'll be trying it at some point.

Maybe even most of us! Commuting can be tiring... not everyone lives in zone 2, a 10 min walk from the station, etc. It's a worrying prospect IMO.

At the time it was a big step up from a VCR... but things have moved on a bit. Ideally I want to turn the thing on, open Netflix/Amazon/YouTube, and start an episode of Peppa Pig before the little'un throws a tantrum. Even browsing live TV seems cumbersome.

Apologies for being pedantic, but they're not really restaurants... just pubs in the (now rather large) Antic chain. The food in all of them is a bit different.

DulwichBorn&Bred Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I was more referring to Badgers Bakery , Truly > Scrumptious Bakery, BlackBirds and the greasy > spoons whereby you can grab a sandwich . Yeah, I got a Blackbirds sandwich the other day and it was good... really nice bread. The cakes are bloody great too. But one of the areas where chain places seem to come into their own is opening hours. As someone mentioned earlier, I can imagine people grabbing a pre/post pub snack to soak up the booze. Or maybe a 7:30am coffee and bacon sandwich on a hungover Friday morning. It's not somewhere I'm going to take my wife and daughter for a nice treat. Besides... some people just LIKE the food there. Like it or not it's a successful formula, the woolly bread and salty/sweet sauces clearly appeal to certain tastebuds. There's room for everyone as far as I'm concerned... no point pretending we live in a bubble of seasonal/artisan/locally sourced produce.
