  1. Fullers taking over the half moon, is on balance a good outcome IMO. I doubt they'll retain the music venue, but it is very very hard to make a venue work, especially in an area like HH... it's not Brixton, Camden, Hackney etc. I do miss it though.

They've been horrendously unreliable ever since the London Bridge redevelopment started. And the the past couple of months the morning service was slashed to one per hour...

Not sure the area really needs another pizza place, but I'm sure we'll be using it if the food is good. Something is going on in the shop on the corner between Peckham Refreshment Rooms and the station. Big horse-shoe shaped bar in the middle...
  4. RRR - is that from the BLM UK airport protesters? Whole thing is bloody absurd.
  5. I think he's possibly quite racist in the same way that my mum is quite racist. I don't think he's a "send the ****s and ******s home" type racist. But maybe he's just too media savvy to go full-on John Tyndall . Who knows.
  6. Good question RD, but it wasn't my intention to define where that line is... simply to suggest that the line theoretically exists.

I pretty much agree. Maybe there's a point when a politician's actions or policies become so vile that confrontation is justifiable (actual proper racists/fascists maybe), but someone like Farage isn't in that bracket.

(apologies if I got the wrong end of that particular stick). Most little kids are well behaved... up until they decide to freak out and scream/cry/run away from you/etc. It happens...

  10. If only they'd ban babies, buggies... actually, all children. Then they'd be onto a winner.
  11. Cycling is all well and good if you are reasonably fit, have somewhere to park your bike at home/work, and ideally a shower at work. It's not an automatic replacement for public transport. The 63 is a good option if you're happy to sit on a bus for an hour.
  12. Always delayed by at least a little bit, and very busy. But at least more dependable than the London Bridge trains.

My tuppence worth - giving away animals is fine if you use a bit of common sense. For instance, a long-term forum user who teaches piano is unlikely to have a secret sideline in dog fighting.
  15. As problems go, straight croissants is not a major one! BTW Boulangerie Jade do very decent croissants (although I'm sure M&S is much cheaper)
  16. Too right, Monkey. And no Burger King. Crap.
  17. red devil Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This is because the timber floorboards will expand > and contract with temp/moisture changes. The > floorboards need a gap to expand into... Not 100% convinced, people manage to have fitted hardwood floors without the need for gaps for expansion.
  18. How about the draughtex stuff with a layer of sawdust/resin over the top? Maybe longer lasting than just the latter.
  19. _Spinach Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > all publicity is good publicity after all Not necessarily... the ridiculously named "pussey liquor" was basically forced to rename after just a few weeks. Probably a good job you avoided the fart route. Seems a little ambitious preparing for #2 before #1 has opened, in such a notoriously difficult sector! But best of luck to you and your team.
  20. The guys who sanded our floors used the sawdust-and-resin method. We weren't expecting it to last a lifetime, but it all started dropping out within a couple of months (maybe OK for very small gaps though). We should have probably found someone able to do the thin-strips-of-wood thing instead. Have filled in some gaps myself with brown decorator's caulk which seems to work OK, but is a bit of a messy job.

  22. I've no problem with charity shops. And as it goes I think Beckenham is perfectly OK. But posh ???!!
  23. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Beckenham is naturally posh Now I've heard it all...
  24. JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Doesn't give the impression outside or downstairs > of being posh so > posh food upstairs wouldn't work IMHO. > > There must be something to do with that space Quite... as good as it was, it just seemed rather incongruous with both the style of the pub, and the kind of people who are going drinking in that part of Peckham (young, student/arty, clubbing types). I suspect basic pub food at around the ?10 mark would be more popular. The upstairs area is large... maybe a dancefloor on Fri/Sat would work? Speaking of Peckham... there's a rather unusual little place in Copeland Park called "Oi Spaghetti + tiramisu"... just a couple of tables inside, and a tiny open plan kitchen. Three or four pasta dishes to choose from - and yep - tiramisu for pudding. Very cheap. BYOB. Pretty decent.
