    Christmas

Christmas pudding... I like it, but is sooo heavy... I can understand why it's not for everyone. I think every foreigner who has ever witnessed a British Christmas has been utterly horrified by our traditional Christmas dessert.

  3. RRR, LibDem is where my views most naturally sit. But they've always lacked a strong and charismatic leader - certainly not strong enough to break through this ingrained two-party culture. I have some misgivings about Farron too (especially on all the god stuff). Given the likely success of LibDems in my constituency (i.e. zilch) I'm not sure I'd even bother voting if there was a GE next week.

If only the LibDems were able to capitalise on what currently seems like an open goal! There hasn't been such a right/left divide since pre-Kinnock...

Yep, I was in Copeland Park yesterday and saw the crazy queues - mostly in their 20s, I would say. I like smugly knowing that there's cool stuff happening in the neighbourhood, even though I rarely get to experience it..
  6. By all means back Corbyn if you like his policies, but I see nothing to indicate that he is fundamentally more honest/decent than other politicians. A few of my friends are very pro-Corbyn... they seem to be in complete denial about the prospects of winning an election. They think a couple of hundred thousand very vocal supporters, plus a few very worthy/sanctimonious types on social media equates to widespread support.
  7. Yeah I don't think you can run a soil pipe around the corner... hence the need to dig the channel along the back and round the corner.
  8. We did exactly what you're talking about. Its definitely possible... will involve some digging of trenches and destruction of any existing patio. Definitely worth doing, bathroom at the back is a rubbish configuration.

OK, didn't realise you were talking specifically about Sue. FWIW I don't think you're an idiot... I do struggle to understand where you're coming from some of the time though...
  10. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It IS very strange to go to a new restaurant only > to choose to be seated in the window looking out on to the street How do you know those weren't the only seats available? The restaurant was busy, right? I don't know... you and Louisa... sounding so judgemental and superior here. Why do you even feel the need to question someone's motives for going out to a restaurant?
  11. Burgers travel OK, I think. Better than pizzas, which are much nicer fresh. Or fried chicken.
  12. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I spoke to Scott and I think he thought M.L. was > probably not for me. As I understand it they have > no real ale > or other draught beers. I may well be wrong. Well, you only usually find cask ale in pubs. But yes, I didn't notice any draught lager either.
  13. Louisa, I think you're seriously over-estimating how trendy/fashionable ED is. The kind of people moving to ED these days want somewhere comfortable, pleasant, family-friendly, non-edgy. There are no "places to be seen in" here.
  14. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "let everyone stare at me because im in here whether I like the food or not" I think people are just curious and want to see what new places are like. A bit like you (with both ML and M&S, I suppose). People aren't as shallow as you think...
  15. I rarely get home from work much before 7:45pm, anything which makes cooking a bit quicker has to be a good thing! But to be honest I usually bypass the whole "ready chopped onion" or "minced garlic/chilli/ginger" dilemma and go straight to "M&S curry" or "takeaway". I actually had a couple of days off work recently, and decided I wanted to make a proper curry from scratch one afternoon. Only to remember that my wife recently threw out my big bag of spices, because it hadn't been touched in over two years. So I had to settle for a ready-made paste... it was less than satisfactory.

  17. Yep, seems natural to me that people are curious about the new place. Queues will inevitably die down in time. I'm sure Franco Manca won't be too concerned if they're not 100% full on a Wednesday night!
  18. goldilocks Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It was open on Sunday when I went past on the bus Thanks - good to know. It always used to be a bit of a step up from HK City or the place in N Greenwich.
  19. Dragon Castle - yes pretty good, but I think it shut down...
  20. LondonMix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I was at Pop Brixton recently and one thing I wish > was around here was really good sum or Japanese > dumplings. Yep, but the number of places doing really good dim sum in London... can probably count on one hand. If 'OK' dim sum will suffice, then Hong Kong City isn't that far away.
  21. I was a bit surprised at how small Meat Liquor is. Seems a lot smaller than Sea Cow! But I guess the layout is very different. Good burgers, but think I slightly prefer Honest burgers...
  22. Yep... you're supposed to change lane shortly before the turning, when the bus lane ends and the solid line turns into a dashed one. It annoys me when I'm trying to do the right thing, and some cheeky bastard nips up the bus lane!
  23. Yep, xoco menu looks v odd. Have commented a few times that the local curry house proprietors should try something different, but this really looks most unusual. I would have thought that if they were going for a casual modern slant, a good concept to take influence from would be something like Dishoom.

The way some people talk... you'd think that as soon as you get past Penge, it's all rednecks and BNP voters.
  25. Yes... I put slug pellets all around the outside of my house and that seemed to do the trick. You could also try filling all the gaps in your floor/skirting (or get pest controllers to do it).
