Far from being intimidated, haven't crows been known to "gang up" on larger birds? Seem to remember it happened at a bird show in Dulwich Park a couple of years back.
  2. Seeing as we're playing that game Grok, I think I've figured out who you are too. You know that "killer clown" trying to scare little kids on Peckham Rye..
  3. In most places in the USA (except NY/SF), the sight of someone actually WALKING from place to place is such a rare thing, motorists probably stop to stare...

Yes agree with that, of course... it's just that's not what I got from your original statement rendelharris Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Boring? 5. Yep, London has much narrower streets, it's never going to be a Copenhagen-like experience for cyclists. Not without some large scale demolition!
  6. Yep, as stated my post was in response to something Otta said, rather than Wiggins in particular.
  7. Yes I would agree that 40-60 seems about average for the basic build.

I am neutral in Wiggins' case, as I've not read much about it, and cycling is boring anyway. But still disagree with the sentiment that if your illness cannot be controlled by common-or-garden medication then that's just tough luck.

I have to disagree with that... plenty of asthmatics need something more powerful than their regular inhalers now and again. Would be sad if we had to tell people they couldn't follow their dream because of a treatable condition.
  10. Well yeah, realistically for travelling into central London (especially during the week) the train is easily the best way. But a car's certainly very useful for nipping around South London, or journeys out of London, or when the train's not running over the weekend. I guess the silver lining is that buying a basic second-hand eligible car isn't going to cost much more than your annual running costs.

Yes but in a strictly peripheral role... it's pretty rare anyone speaks to me at all during the working day, and that's just the way I like it.

You wouldn't be the first person to criticise LH for playing up to a white audience, but at least he was able to base his comedy on informed observations. Unlike Davidson, who I suspect knew nothing about the Jamaican people, but just liked taking the piss out of them. It's an unfair comparison.

  14. Sorry to hear about your experience LN. But surely should have been reported straight away, especially as you know who he is.

  17. Some people like the word "manager" in their job title though. Makes them feel important. In my industry, middle-tier people tend to be labelled "Vice President". In reality it's a meaningless title, automatically given out if you've been around for 10 years or so, and have a pulse. But my mum is ever so proud.
  18. Seems like a ridiculous price for a poster to me. But what do I know...
  19. Haddock with daal and spinach - ?13.50. Lamb meatballs - ?14.50. Cod with mussels/clams/stuff - ?15.50. Yes it's more expensive than curry/pizza/etc, but not exactly high end.
  20. There are a couple of second hand electronics places on Rye Lane... one called "All About Laptops" and one called "Cex". And of course Argos. But agree with RD that PC World is probably the best bet.
  21. It works for me, titch. But there's nothing on it apart from a short introduction and a link to book a table via Quandoo.
  22. I've never actually been to Amsterdam so can't really compare with London. I'm not sure the absolute size of the city is really a factor, but the main problem we have here in London is the narrow streets. And a lot of traffic gets funnelled through them, as there aren't many major routes. Thinking mainly of the centre of town... I'm not sure private cars are a real problem, the majority of the traffic seems to be buses, deliveries, construction, taxis. It's not simply going to disappear. The congestion charge was supposed to encourage offset this, but instead I think businesses are just absorbing the cost.

He's earning a tenth of that now. Not sure if a big club will touch him again, and he probably only has 6-8 years left of his career. So it must be love - or stupidity.

  25. Rendell, looking at their Twitter, I think they're on a reduced "soft opening" menu at the moment. I'm sure once they're doing their full menu, they will include it on the website.
