  3. No... of course it's not normal mikeb...
  4. Our nursery mailed the parents about this. Ironically(?) they warned us all "to be vigilante at all times"

Power's back! We don't really "do" candles.. I had to make do with a pack of birthday cake candles, and a handful of tealights donated by the neighbour.

Thanks ITATM. I took the plunge and signed up to twitter especially... latest estimate is by 9:30pm.

Anyone else have a power cut in Peckham Rye area? And news or update on how long it might be?
  9. numbers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Bar staff at for serving apparently illegal > shooter cocktails in ED. WTF is in an illegal cocktail? I do remember a local bar serving drinks with liquid nitrogen in them a while back, which apparently is rather dangerous..
  10. Boil. Mash. Roll into balls. Roll them in seasoned flour (optional nuts, sesame seeds, etc) and deep fry. Might actually taste OK then.
  11. I don't know... not totally convinced that TFL and nationalisation is the cure. There are plenty of delays, faults and strikes on the tubes too. Ideologically, I'd probably agree that public transport should be not-for-profit, but in practise I don't have a strong preference, as long as it works. Other countries (thinking Asia mainly) seem to have reliable, privately ran public transport. I remember British Rail... anyone who thinks things were better back then are deluded...

  14. I think it's a reasonable analogy. The spices are not expensive - if you enjoy cooking, and like Indian food, then you'll have them in your cupboard anyway. Either a roast or a curry are fairly time consuming and will generate a fair amount of washing up. A chapatti is probably easier to make than a Yorkshire pudding.
  15. Anyone can cook a very nice curry given a recipe to work from. Nicer than most takeaways. It's not difficult. It still boils down to whether you have the time and inclination to do it..
  16. I think in the original films, the development of the apes is supposed to be accelerated as a result of mutation following the nuclear war. So hopefully we're some way off yet.

Maybe they don't enjoy the whole rigmarole of shopping, cooking, cleaning up? Clearly, not everyone's idea of a relaxing Sunday lunchtime is the same.

You're supposed to hang a left onto Medlar Street before you reach the junction. But yes, it's all a bit of a mess.

  20. Apprentice and X-Factor... both only worth watching for the disastrous car-crash performances, and even then the novelty wears off pretty quickly. I'm not entirely sure where tomorrow's essential musicians are hiding right now, but I suspect it's not singing Britney Spears songs on ITV.
  21. Our wreath was stolen last year, and it cost less than half of that. I wouldn't bother if I were you!
  22. Sunday drivers on single-lane 60 mph roads... not confident on the road or perhaps "being careful" after a boozy lunch... I've been frustrated by slow drivers on a few occasions, sure. But not really in London.

    Italia!

Nobody is claiming it's a simple anti-EU vote... but the opponents making the most noise were the Eurosceptic parties, so they're obviously seeing it as one small victory, and it would appear to give them a little bit of momentum. Of course it doesn't actually mean that 60% support withdrawal from EU.
  24. I only really drive on the weekends, but can't say I regularly get annoyed by people driving too slowly! Stopping in stupid places, and worse still, suddenly stopping without adequate warning.. yes that certainly annoys me, kids or no kids.

Hmmm... basically the pro-EU PM lost a referendum on a reform package, and is therefore standing down. It's being seen as a proxy victory for their brand of Eurosceptic populism.
