Yeah, employers skirting round living wage was/is disgraceful, but I imagine pretty tough to legislate against retrospectively.
-
I've never really thought of the Tories as the party of the rich, in particular. More, the party of wealth creation (albeit sometimes at too high a cost).. so I think a rise in minimum wage isn't out of line with their general ethos.

If you're on foot, Peckham Rye is a similar distance (without that bloody hill), and you have the added bonus of the Southern trains, just in case one actually turns up.

Good area. But if you were planning on commuting into central London from ED station, then you're in for a world of stress. Forest Hill, Herne Hill, Peckham Rye, etc may be better options.

I think most of us are on board with the importance of unions and the right to strike, but it's being abused, and I do not believe the claimed safety concerns are sincere. But I'm not sure what choice there is, other than for Govia capitulate and give them what they want (I imagine either backing down on D.O.O or guaranteeing no job losses long term). Either that, or the government does a "Ronald Reagan", which seems unthinkable.

I also remember the snowy Monday. I walked into work. So that was nice.

Band T-shirts are not just gig souvenirs though, malumbu, it's about nailing your colours to the mast. Not that I often wear band Ts these days, it's more of a youth thing I guess, but sometimes it feels appropriate. As for the term "craft beer"... I agree it doesn't really mean much here, where we already have a history of small independent breweries, and the distinction from real ale breweries is getting rather blurred. But it made sense in the states and many other countries, where the only beer most people knew was tasteless mass produced lager.

"Found footage" movies, zombie movies, slasher movies. Horror in general. Broadcast television, TV licence. BBC. Liberalism and centrist politics

Hope you're OK buddug, and well done for being conscientious and neighbourly. I agree that rendel's point was a badly put, which he has now acknowledged, so all good.

Yep, individual 6 month rentals are going to be much easier that finding a single person who wants to return every year. People between moving houses... people have building work done.. those who want to try living in an area before committing to a purchase, etc.

Becks Blue is drinkable-ish. Have seen it in a few of the Antic pubs. Would be surprised if any local pubs sell Nanny State - you'd probably need to go to a BrewDog bar, or other craft beer bar.

Another good point Otta, more drop-in centres would really ease the load on A&E. There's one in New Cross, which has been really useful a few times. Unfortunately the Lister Centre in Peckham stopped doing drop-ins a while ago - although I think you can ask your GP to refer you there if they have nothing available.
-
Totally agree rendel, the GP service is a shambles. When people phone their GP with a legitimate complaint, only to be told that there are no available appointments, period (no pun intended)... I cannot really blame people for turning to A&E. And yes, the triage process could filter out the people who don't need hospital treatment, maybe refer them to a pharmacist, etc.

Nice work fox.

It's a bit too early to say the doom-mongers were wrong.

Pooping dog on camera - do you know it or owner?
Jeremy replied to woodstock's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you don't want to pick up the shit, you shouldn't own a dog. It's disgusting. Yeah posting the CCTV images seems a bit drastic, but if it's a common problem it is IMO understandable. -
local recycling bins- where have they gone?
Jeremy replied to Huggers's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
singalto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sainsbury's have stopped having the recycling bins > because far too many people misused them, leaving > stuff on the ground rather than bother to put it > in the appropriate container. I think that's only part of the story. The bins weren't emptied frequently enough, it often wasn't actually possible to put the items in the appropriate container because they were full. Then when people start leaving stuff on the floor, it's the start of a slippery slope and people start dumping any old rubbish there. -
I was in a similar situation... tree roots had caused cracking in the walls, although in my case the surveyor didn't classify it as subsidence. Tree cut down, cracks were monitored, case was closed. No problem selling.

KK... IMO Angelina's post had an accusatory tone to it, the OP can hardly be blamed for a prickly response. While I agree that the welfare of a distressed animal is a concern, a bit of peace and quiet is not an unreasonable expectation.

Sainsburys etc no staff to bag up at checkout V poor effort imho
Jeremy replied to pop9770's topic in The Lounge
Butcher good for meat. Fishmonger good for seafood. Baker good for bread. Greengrocer good for veg. Supermarket good for other stuff (or buying any of the above in the evening) Room for everyone as far as I'm concerned.
