  1. Sounds like Bonne Bouffe will also have some B&B accommodation above the restaurant. Could be handy.
  2. While you have the builders round, perhaps you could do the neighbourly thing and pay them to do some work on your neighbours house too? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-38502720
  3. Perhaps the double doors - or smaller opening - is the way to go?
  4. Also... what is directly above the existing wall? Is it just floorboards and stud wall, or is it another brick wall?

I thought the same thing. But I guess the danger is that if it still causes indirect damage, e.g. by resulting in structural movement (or if the neighbour "claims" it has) then you're on shaky ground. Of course there's also the issue of whether the remaining column of 120+ yr old brick would be capable of supporting the RSJ! And you're going to go through all that effort/expense, for a result which is far from ideal.
  6. If people want to turn up for a service that may or may not come, as some sort of principled stance, then that's up to them of course. Meanwhile, in the real world, people need to get to work on time, and get home to pick up kids, etc. And if there ARE no acceptable alternatives, this might even be a good time to rethink where you live or work.
  7. Best just to pretend the Southern trains don't exist, and find another route. The franchise has failed. Foot, bus, Thameslink/SouthEastern/Overground, tube, bike, car, taxi... whatever it takes.
  8. I've never bought fresh produce in there, and TBH I probably never will. But it's useful for some things... coffee pods, chocolate, breakfast cereals, all cheap and perfectly OK. The selection of beers is OK too.. their own range of ales (described as 'craft beer', ?1.50 for a large bottle) and some Belgian ones too.

  10. And there was me trying to be charitable...
  11. You're right, Fox - didn't mean to suggest it wasn't worthy of credit. What I meant is that it looks like somebody's homework or school project, and I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting it should be treated as accurate reference material. It's a bit of fun to see the place names, etc. I suppose it would be asking too much to suggest that 'edhistory' lightens up a little?
  12. To be fair, it does appear to be drawn with crayons.

I think the problem for me isn't the number of crashes, but very aggressive driving... but I take your point...
  15. Nah it's not that unusual... it's superfluous, but I've been noticing it on forums/boards for over 20 years...
  16. There are still clothes banks at the Devon Street tip - sorry, Reuse and Recycling Centre - but they're always overflowing and I suspect full of junk. Will probably start giving clothes in nice/nearly new condition to charity, everything else in the bin...
  17. How do you prefer your bread? Sliced? Un-sliced? Or by the sounds of a certain poster, half cut?
  18. Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Or perhaps reduce every feeder lane into the > roundabout to a single track earlier Yes, exactly this. Would prevent people cutting each other up and/or steaming down the bus lane.
  19. Also - any tips on where I can get a wreath? Criteria are a) less than ?10 b) not heart-shaped.
  20. The other week we had someone moaning that a supermarket wouldn't sell her 50 cartons of soy milk, or whatever it was. You can't have it both ways! Either supermarkets impose limits on purchases, or they let you buy whatever you like. You can't please everyone. i*Rate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > They don't go to the Brickhouse Bakery though, at > ?5 a loaf, they'd be off their loaf - Gettit! Actually some caf?s do use Brickhouse bread - e.g. Anderson on Bellenden Rd. I suspect the ones that use 75p Co-op loaves (assuming this uh-mazing tale is actually true) are of the traditional/greasy spoon variety... which no doubt you will find Louisa praising as salt-of-the-earth blah blah blah on some other thread...
  21. Well I live in Peckham Rye so would probably get the 343 instead of the 40. Saying that, the last time I tried to get the 343 back from London Bridge, I had about a 30 minute wait, and the info on the countdown app was completely wrong. I usually treat the bus as an absolute last resort.
  22. To be honest the wait was manageable KK, but the lack of information is inexcusable.
  23. uncleglen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > After Nice you would think that this method of > murder would be factored in to the defense > everywhere Was discussing the same with people at work yesterday... I imagine it's only a matter of time before all public spaces are protected by reinforced bollards or other "street furniture", especially if there's scope for a large vehicle to get a run-up.
  24. Well yes of course drivers have to give way to pedestrians if there's a danger of hitting them!! That's just stating the bleeding obvious. It doesn't mean pedestrians SHOULD step out into the road if there's a car coming though, does it? Stop, look, listen, etc... it is still taught to kids today, with good reason.
  25. The lack of info at the stations is, as always, a problem. I stupidly got the train back from LB last night. At 22:35, the 22:25 was still at the platform and flagged as "delayed", with no estimated departure time. The 22:41 was showing as "on time", but with no platform announced. A couple of minutes later, the 22:41 completely disappeared from the departure board. I walked up to the 22:35 train, still at the platform, asked the driver when he's leaving... he tells me to go and find a guy in an orange vest and ask him!! Eventually got to Peckham Rye at around 23:10 I think.
