  1. Sorry for my misinformation in that case. What a shame.
  2. We have exactly this (at the moment, but will be knocking the chimney out at some point). A basic timber frame (finished with plasterboard) goes across the chimney breast, supporting a canopy cooker hood. Low profile rectangular plastic ducting runs between the kichen ceiling and the upper floorboards, all the way across the kitchen, to the outside. A fairly powerful extractor fan is necessary because of this relatively long distance (up 1m then across 3.5m).
  3. What are "pinks"?
  4. Even after it has been clearly demonstrated that oysters aren't necessarily expensive, the nonsense continues. If you can afford a couple of pints or a pack of fags now and again, you can afford oysters. Seabag - thanks for your small injection of fact, amongst all the made up nonsense.
  5. Lamb shanks are not cheap, but two lamb shanks (?7?) will feed three. Not ridiculous. Big bowls of mussels are around a tenner in Belgo or similar. They are pretty cheap.
  6. must... not.. bite... but... what a load of rubbish, fox...
  7. And I agree the coffee is very good (and the cakes too).
  8. Nope... it is closed for private hire this Sunday. That is all.
  9. Bentley's is in the west end... think you might have your wires crossed?
  10. Must.. not... respond...

  12. The frozen ones from the chinese supermarket are cheap, and good for making tempura oysters, or steak & oyster pie, or stir-fried with chilli and ginger..
  13. I think the place in borough market does 6 for ?5 (if you don't mind eating them standing there in the market). Hardly "the food of the rich" or "exclusive"!
  14. Yeah... seriously that sign is crappy. Ready meals... it's all about how much/little time you have, and how you choose to spend it. When it's already 8pm by the time the kid's asleep, and you need to get up at 6am the next morning... a limp ready meal and a beer in front of the TV will do me just fine.
  15. Yep, running around or games/videos with volume up is unacceptable at any time of day in a restaurant, pub, or cafe. Crying... can be difficult if there's more than one kid. And if you insist in keeping them up past their normal bed time, it is pretty likely to happen!
  16. Again.. Dulwich Woodhouse is a pub, and I would therefore expect it to be adults only in the evening.
  17. As Louisa suggests, it's a question of cultural expectations. In some other countries it's quite normal for very young kids to still be up in the evening, and taken to restaurants. But in the UK.. despite the undeniable shift L talks about... I think we still expect restaurants to be adult environments after 7:30 or so. While I agree it's hard for restaurants to enforce, I think a 4 yr old in a restaurant at 8pm is pushing the social norms a bit.
  18. What is a "BoBo"? Kilburn is more expensive than ED... has always been the way. Particularly the Brondesbury end. Walthamstow is still a bit cheaper than round here... you should be able to get a 3 bed house for around 500K if you're not too bothered about "period charm" (I appreciate this is still a lot of money, but for two people earning average London wage, with a flat to sell, sounds doable).

  20. I do not wear a suit to work - instead opting for slacks (with a neat crease), shirt, and optional knitwear. Sometimes I do not have time to polish my shoes for a couple of weeks. Do you think I would also be welcome in the Cherry Tree after 7:30pm?

I've been meaning to get some of that "Nanny State" for those driving days... but not seen any in the shops. I might order some. That Bavaria stuff is revolting (as is the Cobra), and the Erdinger one is just really really odd tasting.

But some of the so called craft beer tastes no better.. Which ones? I have a couple of particular "craft" beers in mind which tastes pretty bad!! Regarding non-alcoholic.. Becks Blue is just about drinkable, IMO. Not 'good' as such, but I can drink it.
  24. I think you're right DaveR, it's a different offering. Picturehouse can offer something the film club can't. So, make sure you provide something that the Picturehouse can't.
  25. Yes but weekend and evening screenings are all mainsteam. The Big Short, The Revenant, Our Brand Is Crisis, etc. Which is fine with me. Room is Oscar nominated and has some pretty recognisable names in the cast (even for a philistine like me) so I consider it fairly mainstream.
