The Listeners The Listeners By Walter De La Mare 1873?1956 Walter De La Mare ?Is there anybody there?? said the Traveller, Knocking on the moonlit door; And his horse in the silence champed the grasses Of the forest?s ferny floor: And a bird flew up out of the turret, Above the Traveller?s head: And he smote upon the door again a second time; ?Is there anybody there?? he said. But no one descended to the Traveller; No head from the leaf-fringed sill Leaned over and looked into his grey eyes, Where he stood perplexed and still. But only a host of phantom listeners That dwelt in the lone house then Stood listening in the quiet of the moonlight To that voice from the world of men: Stood thronging the faint moonbeams on the dark stair, That goes down to the empty hall, Hearkening in an air stirred and shaken By the lonely Traveller?s call. And he felt in his heart their strangeness, Their stillness answering his cry, While his horse moved, cropping the dark turf, ?Neath the starred and leafy sky; For he suddenly smote on the door, even Louder, and lifted his head:? ?Tell them I came, and no one answered, That I kept my word,? he said. Never the least stir made the listeners, Though every word he spake Fell echoing through the shadowiness of the still house From the one man left awake: Ay, they heard his foot upon the stirrup, And the sound of iron on stone, And how the silence surged softly backward, When the plunging hoofs were gone.

The Mata signing smacks of a knee jerk reaction by a club to the current woes it is going through. Mata is a good player no doubt, but 37m to 40m depending on what you read, is over the odds and not the answer to the current predicament. For me it's just the club trying to deflect the spotlight currently being shone on their woeful home record, financial results, and falling share prices. Fancy Bendtner for ?25m?

Mourinho has allowed this to become personal between him and the player, not very professional, in the same way that AVB excluded certain players at Spurs. Still chavs loss is someone elses gain.

Secondly you have to ask why would Mourinho let him go? Secondly I find it starnge that the announcement came on the day of a semi final, and shortly after the announcement that the share price had plummeted. Coincidental?

'And these words shall then become Like Oppression's thundered doom Ringing through each heart and brain, Heard again - again - again - 'Rise like Lions after slumber In unvanquishable number - Shake your chains to earth like dew Which in sleep had fallen on you - Ye are many - they are few.' The last two verses taken from "The Mask of Anarchy" by Percy Bysshe Shelley

Jason Puncheon must be feeling like a penalty taking genuis after watching that limp display. It's good to see that Moyes has finally grasped the enormity of the task in in hand. He is definitely the man most qualified to take United on to realising their dream. Exactly what that dream is only he knows. The reds keep marching on, on on, as a certain EDFer has been known to say.

I agree better that we don't know what potential members of parliament are thinking, imagine where that would lead eh?

Because members of all the other political parties, including MP's are wonderfully rounded, honest as the day is long, upright individuals. You'll never find a Labour, Conservative etc MP espousing offensive trash or being dishonest.

Theyn were slaughtering > United down the left. They way United played made the chavs look good. The game away at City should show us a bit more about where the title may end up. I still think City should win the title with the resources they have at their disposal but the tendency to leak gaols may cost them dear. Otherwise it's theirs to lose. As for United, in my view they need a purge of players and should never have appointed Moyes. They won't sack him because that would mean losing face as he was SAF's choice and they can't be seen to be questioning his judgement, let alone the payment Moyes would be entitled to if he was lobbed out of the door. Anderson has gone and should be folowed by Kagawa, Ferdidnand, Jones, Cleverely, Vidic, Valencia, RVP, and Rooney. The latter two Moyes has singularly failed to manage in the way SAF did. Rooney has held the club to ransom twice, while the club stood by him, and appears to ready to do it again. RVP has had 2 decent seasons in almost 9 years, one when he wanted away, and the other with SAF.

i think you have to take into account the historical context when considering the Beatles and the effect they had on music scene back then and the musical legacy they left behind. I agree that selling shed loads of records isn't always and indicator of talent but the very fact that 30 odd yeras after they broke up and two of the members have passed on, their records still sell by the shed load, and musicians still reference them and claim to have been influenced by them. Overrated? Maybe, tastes in music and art are very subjective after all.

I'm not sure the financial woes expereinced by Rangers will be unique to the SPL, I can see clubs in the Prem coming to grief a la Portsmouth and Leeds.
