  1. But "The Glades" does have a "Patisserie Valerie"...:)) And an "Ann Summers" close by (And a not-bad Farmers' market outside it every Friday...)
  2. So have they any connection with the Big Brother lady or not then?! :))
  3. >>>I've always thought it sounds like something you might catch after a poorly judged one-night-stand :D< "Penge" was made famour by Horace Rumpole of course and his celebrated "Penge Bungalow murder(s)". To me the word suggests a hermaphrodite's supernumerary body part...:))
  4. Of course the really interesting domestic match in the offing is now Doncaster Rovers v Leeds United! Mind you the Sky commentator overdid things slightly this evening when comparing Rovers' play against Carlisle favourably to Barcelona..ahahaha>:D< (And yes, he did mean the football club not the LL tapas bar :)))
  5. Hmm....yes...there today and the bacon-and-cheese croissants are extremely yum. The place is now better stocked and has more on offer than the NCR stall. They do baguettes!! And great espresso. And whilst I was there the "staff wanted" notice was removed form the window... Double espresso, said croissant and a baguette for under a fiver...
  6. :))I wonder if this was some kind of publicity stunt, pending a change of name to "The Bird and Bush"? Or: maybe the landlord is a bit dyslexic and has misread all these "Thursday Night Quiz" signs in various other ED establishments? Or: but no, already I feel strangely grubby. Someone else have a go!
  7. >> What makes a great chip??:D
  8. Do they all offer/show ID?
  9. >>I am trying to acheive a Keef-like state of zen fairness.....<< But I thought he was also a numpty?? confused now....:))
  10. >>This is pure conjecture based on a bit of peeved squinting << I have to say I have not yet witnessed any of this in the cafe. Gawd, the place is busy enough as it is but once word gets around the queues'll reach Nunhead...:))
  11. That is the sort of question that can get you into all sorts of trouble! :))
  12. I cannot see either Hull or Bristol City flourishing in the Premier. They may not do a Derby, but I reckon both would do a Watford. Besides...the idea of Hull City in the Premier League is contrary to all the Laws of Nature - wrongwrongwrong!!! :))
  13. Much as I love it I now avoid Saturdays there :). But it has been really nice during the recent spell of sunny weather as the interior has been less crowded. Service can indeed be on the slow side - but since so much is made to order this is inevitable in busy periods.
  14. Bad luck Colin.....still Palace v United, Warnock v his old mate and assistant Blackwell will have that little bit more piquancy next season...>:D
  15. >> or a mother breastfeeding her baby. << Blimey! Who should she be breastfeeding then?!
  16. .....or perhaps the putting-a-ferret-down-your-trousers contests could be revived? Gosh they used to be exciting to watch....:)
  17. >>Can every gay MBer please avert their eyes. I'm sorry you had to see that. >I'm sorry I had to see it, though I think I might've.<< If you only think you did, then you most certainly did not! :))
  18. >>I have long hair and countless pairs of shoes y'know!! << URSarahJessicaParker&ICM?5!!! :)):)):)) Returning to football....Leeds now have as hard a task of getting promotion as Crystal Palace....
  19. Liverpool - right back to Shankly - have always used the transfer market to strengthen their sides. This is not the same at all as buying the Championship in the way that Blackburn Rovers did a few years back and Chelsea have done more recently. When the Russian Cash Dispenser tires of his toy and leaves then watch Chelsea sink back to their natural level (better than Fulham, not quite Spurs-class :))). Liverpool - and Arsenal under Wenger - both know nurturing young players and judicious dealings in the transfer market are the only way to get lasting success.
  20. This week I have mostly been wearing... my "Sheffield United" beach shorts and clashing, non-Hawaiian, short sleeved cotton shirts...
  21. Maybe next Sunday in Dulwich Park will be more "fete-like"? Anyway the Rhododendrons are looking stunning just now...>:D
  22. I find it somewhat irksome that so many so-called experts on TV & in the Press have gone on about what a super, exciting competition the Premier League is. It isn't. It is a depressing 4 horse race (like the Scottish PL has been for years with the 2 Glasgow giants slugging it out), plus a competition for 5th, plus another for the next few places. We all know the four teams who will finish in next season's top four already... And did anyone notice Avram Grant's ludicrous claim that the top 2 should play off for the Premier Championship if they finished level on points as to decide the champions by goal difference would be "tragic"?! :)) This is almost as good as Ferguson's "rule" his team are allowed to handle the ball in the area when playing against any one of the 16 clubs who are there simply to make up the numbers... Spot the difference: Manchester United & The Harlem Globetrotters :))
  23. >>They were giving away big slices of parma ham, chunks of mozzarela and bread dipped in rather nice olive oil today at the Fair.<< Indeed! And it was all lovely. But the menu looked disappointing - lots of pizzas and pasta but just a minimum of "main" meat dishes. No osso bucco or veal escalope/scalopini etc etc
  24. Have them seen them often in Underhill - 5 is the record for our garden. The "African Queen! story is, I think, a dead granny but has a pleasing symmetry given that the author of the book on which the film was based lived in Underhill Road....also believed to be an urban myth is the theory they are all descended from a pair Jimi Hendrix kept. I am sure I saw a turtle in the Japanese garden pond in Peckham Rye park last week....I know there used to be several in Dulwich Park lake The Trees of Peckham Rye Park,.....number 1, The Larch....
