  1. Halifax charged me a massive amount last year for property insurance only - when I queried it as several hundreds of ?s more, they offered me a different rate as a 'new' customer, but warned that I will have an increase this year to almost a ?1000 pa!!. We use Swinton for our contents insurance so I will be asking them for a quote for property nearer the time.
  2. Gumboots Holiday Club at the East Dulwich Community Centre Darrell Road. SE22 ?32 per day.
  3. Do not go for 'vogue names' they go out of date easily also others usually can tell which programmes/pop stars you were watching during pregnancy. I used to hear a lot of Courtney, Chanel, Chantelle, Sunny, Beyonce, LaToya, Sheridan, Scarlett, Elvis etc. Go with names that suit your surname - I still remember dealing with an Arthur Crown, Teresa Green, Lily, Ivy and Rose Seed and a George Raffe (G Raffe)
  4. Under the London/Urban Plan, properties in East Dulwich are restricted in heights I believe this is up for renewal. Keep your eye out for planning applications as flats are being squeezed into very small spaces. Many moons ago my friend was in a high rise flat in Kidbrooke with 3 kids, the council ruled that families with young children should not be housed above the 4th floor. There were no flats at those levels available but friend was offered a newly built town house in Thamesmead. She took it even though it was miles away from family and work.
  5. Gumboots Holiday Scheme is open for 4 weeks cost per child per day ?32.
  6. There is a regular painting programme and this year in late August, the hall, kitchen and toilet flooring will be replaced.
  7. Redjam wrote 'with so many older children running around. Plus the Darrell Road Community Centre is a bit grotty, though that's not their fault. But other than that it's a good and well-run club and I would recommend.' Would be helpful if explanation be given as why they thought centre was grotty?. As part of the Management Committee we are conscious that our centre may be old, but it is well maintained externally and internally - given limitations of the building. Gumboots have used this centre for over 20 years for their daily after school and holiday clubs. Can the 'grottiness' be changed - if so please advise.
  8. I agree that it is dangerous for children to ride on the road, but I have some sympathy for those who have been knocked by child cyclists. My old aunt who wore surgical boots as had one leg shorter than the other, was knocked down by a child (around 10 yrs) on the pavement outside what is now Sainsbury's Local. The child had said he had rung his bell but my aunt being hard of hearing did not hear. Fortunately did not sustain a fracture but was very reluctant to go out unaccompanied for the rest of her life. I park my car in my front garden and have a dropped kerb, I always ease out very slowly as pavement is always busy- I am also very near a bend in the road, the times that children charge pass on their bikes worry me as the parent is usually several yards behind. Also a danger to child cyclists, are people who walk their dog on very long leads - as these can get caught up in wheels
  9. Our old cat was very vocal and you could have a conversation with her, different sounds and pitches yet she rarely talked to our other cats. When she died, the house was very quiet and the other cats missed her. We have 3 cats - one who is dumb and cannot growl or purr, one who squeaks rather than meows, and the other who has varying tones.
  10. I will try the double sided tape as less messy than glue.
  11. Sorry about missing date I copied details from What's on in Dulwich Section and forgot that date was in title. TUESDAY 30th MAY 7 - 9 pm
  12. I thought as much - with wallpaper paste?
  13. Meet the Election Candidates for East Dulwich. ( Dulwich and West Norwood Constituency) 7 - 9 pm East Dulwich Community Centre, Darrell Road. SE22 30th May
  14. I have several of those foil type reflective panels which go behind radiators (given to me by energy company after having loft insulated) but there are no instructions with them. Do I fix them the to wall (wallpaper) behind radiator with wallpaper paste/glue? Walls are solid brick so I assume nails/screws are not needed. Any advice please.
  15. Procedure for schools/nurseries/after school clubs should be that if a parent/carer is delayed in collecting children, they should phone school immediately to notify them and give approximate time of arrival. failing that the parent/carer arranges alternative adult to collect and gives school etc their name and description, and that alternative adult gives some ID to school etc when arrives. If no adult/much older child collects the children - the school must notify social services and ask that they collect children. Some schools etc stipulate that if the children are not collected by a certain time i.e. 5 pm schools (possibly) with nurseries and after school clubs tending to be around 6 or 6.30 ish, social services will be contacted. I had to collect my grand daughter when she was in primary school in Orpington - my daughter had rung the school and explained that she could not collect - my grand daughter was kept in the secretary's office till I arrived some 30 minutes after school ended.
  16. Mislaid items at the Community Centre are often taken to the office - did you check with either caretaker or cleaner?
  17. Not sure whether the National Child Birth Trust can recommend an alternative group

    Daft names

With many people in multi cultural relationships we will have more 'unusual' names. In my family with have a Morgan (girl) Owen, Nathan, Lewis, Tia, James, Kasha (anglicised from Polish Kesia) Lukas (Polish version of Luke) I also heard of a Sheridan (male) and Cerise.
  19. The 3 people I mentioned all do not have computers. All have them have refused both over the phone and in person to complete but were still harassed.
  20. There is one in the foyer of Christ Church at the top of Barry Road.
  21. I have now had 3 acquaintances who have been targeted - they have all had several letters, visited by different people at least 3 times. They have run the contact number on the letter to explain that they are not happy to fill in forms etc but are still being harassed. One is a lady in her late 60s, the other has learning difficulties and has limited reading ability, and the other carer of a mentally ill person.
  22. From what I can ascertain, social services budgets for 2017/18 have been severely cut by several millions of pounds. I am not sure what the effect is on children's OT service but it is quite bad in the adult services. My daughter is an OT in Surrey and works a 5 day fortnight during which time she has over 30 cases to deal with. Surrey have reduced the number of qualified social workers in adult services and have employed the 'cheaper' social work assistants ( who have good knowledge and experience but cannot undertake certain tasks as not professionally qualified). The Tory Government are to blame for restricting and reducing social services budgets.
  23. Most of the activities for under 5s close during the holidays due to poor numbers. I would think that if you are looking for a half day or full day activity - you may find this difficult.
  24. You can pay in cheques at the Post Office but they take twice as long to clear - we noted that one of ours took 8 days.
  25. call in at Christ Church in Barry Road and speak with Elaine/Michelle in the caf? to ask what days tiny tots meet up I believe it is a free activity.
