  1. According to my daughter and granddaughter- the Portsmouth area is very reasonable for rental properties and house purchases. Friends fed up with London prices have moved to the outskirts of Portsmouth and commute to London once a week. They are currently renting at less than half the cost of their London rental and are now saving up to buy a property. Also try Durrington on Sea and Goring by Sea in West Sussex. Train stations near by, good local shops and schools. Roughly a couple of miles from Worthing Town for a larger shopping area. Loads of hypermarkets (Sainsburys. Tesco. Aldi. Asda) Plenty of Garden Centres. Rustington is also a good area .
  2. Etherow Street will become a school street soon. Will affect St. Anthony's especially since they have a wide catchment area and children are dropped off by parents on their way to work. Inconsiderate parking has always been a problem - my daughter attended there in the late 1980s/early 90s. Members of the PTA took turns in trying to monitor the situation and were frequently verbally abused.
  3. At last week's SNT meeting- it was highlighted that phone theft was high in ED especially the area around ED Station. Best not to use phone in street, if you have to make a call go into a shop doorway. Keep phone in pocket or bag .
  4. Just a reminder that the Dulwich Hill SNT meeting is to take place Friday 15th March 5 pm at Christ Church Barry Road.
  5. Dulwich Hill have now moved out of their premises in Gipsy Hill and are now placed in Peckham. This has meant many shift changes and difficulties in arranging a meeting date and time. also some change in personnel. The meeting will be held at Christ Church Barry Road on Friday 15th March at 17.00 hrs( 5pm)
  6. Admittedly I am not a fan of eating on public transport, but admit to eating the odd sandwich on the bus when I was working. I was not always office based and some days would be travelling by bus various places in Southwark (which did not have car parking) so ate between visits on the bus.
  7. We went over to digital- only 2 phones (cordless could be used the others we had to throw away). Phone which was in the hall is now in the room where the computer is, which means unless you are in that room you cannot hear it ring. The other phone is in the lounge. We need a phone in our bedroom and in the kitchen, whilst engineer was here he ordered with our consent, 2 cordless phones which we were told to expect on 24th December. Not very helpful engineer did not explain anything. When phones did not arrive - phoned up EE who had no record of the order. WE now have to dial 1571 to get messages as not all get recorded on the Ansa phone for some reason.
  8. I have chosen tradespeople from the reviews- some when contacted by PM ignore my request. I did research for a particular tradesperson, noting that he had reviews going back several years (all good and from many people). I was very pleased with his work and costs, and when asked how I got his details, explained that I had checked all his reviews over a number of years before contacting him. I was congratulated for my effort as he explained that he was often called to rectify work done by tradespeople who had been contacted via EDF and people had not checked back reviews (whether they were new posters/regular posters). Needless to say - the tradesperson number is now in my phone and has done other work for me. He is a well known person to many EDF folk.
  9. Chicken when it is on 'the turn' smells 'off' so easy to detect. When i get chicken thighs (off the bone and skinless) I cook within 24-48 hours, Cooked chicken keeps better so purchased on Saturday, cooked either Sunday or Monday morning and safe to eat. Did tests in A & E show food poisoning?
  10. The 3 people I know who have used this facility are full of praise for the Barclay staff and have no concerns about meeting in a room in the library.

  13. Previously the British Heart Foundation took them away to use in their shops, but they have not done this since Covid. This is why the event did not take place for a year or so. We have a volunteer who takes things to a charity based in Brixton - hence not being able to accept electrical goods etc.
  14. What is wrong with 2 day old bread! If kept in the right environment bread will keep fresh for several days.
  15. Hubby when he does his volunteer shift at St Christopher's, frequently goes in Dulwich Café for a meal. I do so on the odd times am in LL and feeling peckish - some dishes are cheaper than Jonnies.

  17. Try Salvation Army
  18. If my Mum who lived in Lewisham was alive and my daughter, who lives in Bromley, took Mum in her car to visit me, they would park in nearby disabled bay displaying her Blue Badge. Unless there is a national data base for all Blue Badges - you could not determine which council had issued the badge. Disabled Bays are for anyone with a blue badge regardless whether they were issued in Birmingham, Norwich or Southwark. Same as Older Person Freedom passes issued to TFL are acceptable throughout the country.
  19. Have used both of the tradesmen mentioned several times and can recommend them both. Niko has many recommendations on the EDF
  20. There are a number of food banks in N and E London. Maybe easier to goggle them or look up Hackney Council's list of warm hubs and work your way through those who also have food banks etc. I think it is also the Trussell Trust that operates some food banks.
  21. Our neighbour has to display her Blue Badge as she parks in the only disabled bay in our stretch of road. Traffic Wardens/Parking Attendants every now and them swoop down on Barry Road and really target the disabled bays.
  22. Seems out of our price range but imagine it could be around £50 without the alcohol.
  23. I tried a service wash in Brockley and it was not good at all so then tried an online one following Jules-and-Boo's suggestion (thankyou). I tried Love2Laundry. It was more expensive than a local service wash but the duvets came back clean. So I will use again. They collect and drop off. Sounds a good idea - how long did they take to do? When we used Wash and Dry in LL took in morning and collected late afternoon.
  24. I an afraid that this type of theft is not new and has been happening for many years. When my Mum died over 10 years ago we handed back her blue badge to Lewisham who thanked us for being honest! Many families keep hold of them to get free parking/priority parking. The eligibility criteria for a blue badge is hard - need to be on Attendance Allowance/PIP (mobility) and have certain unseen health conditions, or really restricted mobility or partial sight/blindness. The stolen badges are passed on for cash.
  25. We are having similar problems with our 8 year old grandson. In the last couple of years he has exploded at both home and school. His parents split 3/4 years ago and he sees his father (who lives 200 plus miles away) every 2-3 weekends plus holidays as well as talking on phone several times a week. A new male teacher at his school keeps in regular touch with my daughter and has confirmed that last autumn when he was 7, he had a reading age of 9 plus was working with maths and science subjects at a 9/10 year old level. He is very good with computers and at Christmas successfully guided his 24 year old graduate aunt through some complicated PowerPoint work. (She is very good with IT generally and was surprised that her nephew was so advanced) School is meeting my daughter next week to discuss a 'behavioural plan' along with the SENCO. They recognise that computers are 'his thing' and he will be allowed to have 20 mins at end of each day to do coding, but 10 minutes only if he has an outburst. The rest of the plan to be discussed next week. My daughter has been in touch with Young Minds and there is a 2 year waiting list for CAMS. A psychological assessment and interview plus report will cost in the region of £800 plus privately. My grandson is possibly frustrated as clearly academically advanced - hopefully the new plan will work
