Concerned toddlor is autistic..
Pugwash replied to blacklashez's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Our eldest grandson was thought to show Autistic traits when he was 3 mainly around speech and understanding instructions. He was diagnosed with language delay and went to a nursery several times a week where they concentrated on developing his language skills. -
I live in Barry Road and try to keep to 20mph however with an automatic car going down to the Rye end, it is difficult unless I go into my 'hill gear' 2. I find that I do around 22-25 mph. It is the idiots who keep bleeping me and overtaking me at 40 mph that are the problems.

if the new super day centre ever gets built by Southwark (Cator Street) part of the Fred Francis Day Centre could be a good police base.

I live in ED Ward and have spoken and emailed James Barber frequently. When ED ward received money for personal alarms, there was plenty of publicity about it. People as been said before, do not understand that ward names such as ED, Village and College give an indication of the part of ED covered. Also the police from Lordship Lane (before they were forced to move to Camberwell) frequently turned up to local events i.e. Summer fetes, etc and had a stall giving out personal alarms, and general information.

As with most stores. you get to know which product you like and their value for money. I find Lidl and Aldi's good for fruit juice, bleach, washing tablets and WU liquid. some fruit and veg. Their cold meats, sweets. cakes, biscuits, tinned fish, are also good quality and value. I usually buy basic brands in Sainsbury's but trial and error have identified those basics which are not good buys for me, i.e. basic baked beans (unless they are going in a shepherds pie) are not as nice as their own brand makes. Also Lidl at Peckham does not have the variety as Lidls at Beckenham.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Pugwash replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James I woke up this morning to sounds of banging and crashing and discovered that my neighbour's scaffolding was being taken down. They scaffolding lorry was stuck outside my house for well over an hour but could not see any signs of workmen. Perhaps having done next door they wandered over to Badgers Bakery for a drink! -
My husband (an only child) also did not speak until over 2 years of age, when he did it was a full sentence and also in Polish - his father's preferred method of communication ( First words were Daddy has a moustache) after that he spoke in English in sentences to his English mother. He still is bilingual although none of our children speak Polish

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Pugwash replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James. As you may have been aware, Southwark Council were repainting many of their properties in Barry Road over the past few weeks. Scaffolding was placed back and front of these buildings and the workforce must have done a few hours per week on each property. My neighbour's property was one which was repainted - lucky if he had a worker there for 2 days or more in a row. However the works have now been completed, but scaffolding remains. neighbour has rung up Housing to ask when scaffolding will be removed as now posing a security risk as thieves can access windows on first floor. On the ground floor lives a very elderly tenant who is finding it difficult to get out in the garden, or to access refuse bins. Housing could not give any indication when scaffolding would be removed. Having as a home owner having to pay for scaffolding in the past - I know it comes to over ?100 plus a week to hire, does the Housing Department have money to waste? there are at least 14 properties in Barry Road affected. -
Majority of halls to hire in the area, have a clause in their hiring contract re the time that music must cease, for the majority it is 11 pm, a couple will be earlier, but very rare for after 12 midnight

aggressive kids in Dulwich park today
Pugwash replied to DadOf4's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
years ago, the teenage daughter of one of my friends was verbally abused by a group of boys whilst in the park. They were a similar age around 15/16. She was with a group of friends so she ignored them. In the same summer holiday, at another trip to the park with a couple of friends, the same boys started verbally abusing the girls and followed them through the park. The girls were getting frightened now and made their way out of the park through the village, with the boys following swearing at them and making 'suggestions' A shop keeper in the village was outside his shop and suggested to the girls that they took refuge in the shop and he rang the police. The boys took off but police later picked them up. My friend and her daughter were asked to identify the boys. My friend, who is a teacher, was horrified to find that a couple of the boys attended her school and they were shocked to see her. The boys got a warning from the police and a good dressing down. My friend stated that when the boys returned to school in September, they were very sheepish whenever they saw her and were on their best behaviour the rest of the year. As a result of this incident, the Police patrolled the park several times a day during the summer holidays -

A friend who is blind and lives in Lordship Lane by the Grove Tavern has spent years talking to councillors and MP Tessa about this junction, They have written to TFL on his behalf and TFL do not feel it is a priority junction and will not put a pedestrian phase or permanent filter on the lights. If an MP cannot get things done what chance do us 'ordinary folk do. Try our new MP Helen to see how far she gets.

John, Mary and the team at Christ Church put on another fantastic evening of food and music last night. Only ?5 per adult ( with great discounts for families) - plenty of food. A great duo called Paul and the Graduate - brilliant guitarists and got us clapping and dancing away to the rock songs of yester year. These guys (late 30s early 40s) I believe are East Dulwich based - anyone know more about them?

Closure of Melbourne Grove to through traffic - new petition
Pugwash replied to tiddles's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I use Melbourne Grove only when LL is too blocked with traffic. You cannot go fast down Melbourne from LL as roadway is too narrow in parts for 2 cars to pass each other. Equally from ED Grove down to Grove Vale, especially by the bend near locksmith's you get larger vehicles which cause more problems. -
Hidden Birdsong Unearthed on P13 Bus Route
Pugwash replied to Tractorlad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We live at the top end of Barry Road and sitting in the garden most days and early evenings, the bird songs are clearly heard over the traffic, only the aircraft noises seem to distract from the birds -

Feedback on the gumboots after school club
Pugwash replied to bobby's bear's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Gumboots have been running after school and holiday clubs at the Community Centre for well over 10 years. They pick up from St John's and St. Clements School There is a Gumboots at Goodrich school. The summer holiday schemes are open to all primary aged children regardless of schools. -
A friend used to go shooting regularly but went down to Bisley for it from ED

Apart from BARA (Barry Area Residents Association) are there any other resident associations in ED between Dunstans Road and East Dulwich Road/Lordship Lane.? Asking as it may be productive to have a meeting with members of these associations to talk about living in ED and if we have any common concerns or ideas to improve the area/amenities The Friern Road T & RA is newly formed, and there used to be a residents group in Crebor street
