  1. Well, if daizie's not going, I'm out.
  2. And I don't remember any flats either. And to be honest, Mockers' story about Franco is more interesting than my Star Wars gag. But something about the dusty expanse reminded me of the desert world of Luke Skywalker's childhood, not sure why. "Those aren't the droids we're looking for"
  3. Did you grow up on Tatooine, Mockers?
  4. Strawbs, my sister-in-law and her boyfriend stayed there once when we had a house-guest overflow, and they were perfectly happy with it. Cost us ?50/night, I think. Shared bathroom and very basic, but clean and the people are nice.
  5. Louisa, if it was really small (about half the size of a grey) and had distintively tufty ears then it was a real red squirrel. What a mystery, lucky you. I've seen them a few times in Hamburg, and embarrassed myself by getting rather excited and squealy. It's somewhat the equivalent of going to London and going Oooh ooh! A pigeon!

    April 1st

There have often been anti-capitalist / anarchist demonstrations in the City on 1st April, but with the G20 in London, it's going to be a bit bigger this year. Here's a link to one of the websites organising demonstrations/party/general presence Financial Fools Day

    April 1st

So on "Financial Fools Day", will you be: a) sneaking into your office clutching your Starbucks latte and praying for safety b) snugly tucked up at home, "working" c) rioting and reclaiming the streets d) not giving a shit and doing something else I'm laughing as I post this, as there are just so many responses to this thread that I can almost write in advance...

I'm not cool, so I just wear Audrey Hepburn style large bins and hope for the best.
  9. welcome sophiesofa, nice moniker too. The CPT is the Crystal Palace Tavern on Crystal Palace Road and has its own thread if you would like to check out the varying opinions on it...

Oh Shu, but that's half the fun. It's like wearing one pair of shoes and a black suit for the whole of your life. Practical and inexpensive - yes. Fun? No.

==Little Known Geeky Star Trek Fact Alert== That actually was a hairband, which someone appropriated for the costume.

Well, I'm glad to hear it, I wouldn't want to be wearing last year's oversized ridiculous ironic glasses. Our cactus at work has a pair of the ones you show above, but in red. Will it suffice to have a marvellously fashion-forward pot plant?

As promised. Fashion is not discussed nearly enough on this forum. So, what sun bins are we buying this year? I saw someone in a pair of oversized mirrored aviator shades this lunchtime and nearly expired on the spot. Surely they can't be back in fashion again?
  14. I only ever tuck my vest into other people's Y fronts
  15. Jah, I too am sorry to hear your news. Cancer is a dreadful,dignity-robbing disease, as I too know from personal experience. But dc, I can't agree with the multiple personae thing. I only know of a couple of people who have more than one and I never really understand why they bother. Yes, if I wade into one of Marmora Man's posts people might think 'what does Moos know, all she ever does is talk gibber' but that's my business, and quite honestly I don't really care. If I can back up what I say then more power to me. The sum total of the posts is the poster, and that includes the light and frivolous with the serious and profound. Anyway. Have now made same point 4 times and unless some new twist arises, I'll withdraw gracefully to start a thread about sunglasses.
  16. The trees have started to get that magical shimmer as the leaf-buds thicken and swell, but haven't quite burst. A few have already broken into leaf and are clad in that wonderful fresh green that epitomises spring. Happy, happy season.
  17. .... which would be much better! I too have observed that fact and said tch to myself. Although only quietly. Who will stand for the newly named Dulwich At The Top And A Bit At The Side MP on this important platform?
  18. Again, I took no issue with d_c disagreeing with DM in itself. I didn't wholly agree with her post either. And if your general forum persona consists of flippancy and humour, it will of course mean that your serious posts are read differently from those of someone who is habitually serious and thoughtful. But I wholly disagree with someone being told to shut up 'because you're more suited to other topics' (pr?cis of d_c's post, but I think not unfair). And on DM in particular, she has in the past stepped out of character to discuss nursing- David, you didn't object on that occasion, why not? Edit to say that I've just read your last and rather than make you repeat your response to Mick Mac, perhaps it's just the appropriateness of tone and approach that we're differing on?
  19. I can't believe I'm getting into this discussion but hey - isn't West Kensington W14 and Shepherd's Bush W12 and aren't they next door to one another? Also, I thought North Dulwich was the same as Dulwich Village, or am I talking through my hat? What do I know, I'm just a Peckhamite...
  20. d_c, we'll have to agree amicably to disagree - I'm afraid your tone came across as 'get back in your box, little woman'. I may have been alone in reading it that way, but that is how I read it and that's why I posted. I see no reason whatsoever why DM or any other poster shouldn't step out of character and make a serious point, and I don't think one needs a portfolio of "serious work" in order to have credibility - each post stands or falls on its own merit. *Bob*, you make a good point!
  21. David, that post was quite extraordinarily patronising. "Stick to jokes about chablis and Eastern-European au-pairs and leave the serious stuff to the "bright" people you no longer hold in high esteem"? Did you read it before hitting Post message?
  22. Oh, and SeanMac's post total is looking perilously close to Keef's now...
