  2. Michael - hilarious. Can the statue do breakdancing, I feel this would be a good transition from classical to modern. TLS :-S

Had to watch through squinty eyes for the first few minutes, but after that very interesting. But I am not quite convinced by Lawrence Fishburn. He's very compelling in a quiet, underplayed way but I'm not sure that this makes for a leading role. Especially since the lovely and ever-backlit Helga Schmurgerburger looks like a wooden doll beside him.
  4. I'm not sure that would be expected of an MP on a ?65k salary, though, Louisiana. And conversely, the idea of 'buying outfits' at all would seem out-of-this-world to some people. Isn't frugality just living within your means and looking for opportunities to save money?
  5. Will people with unnecessarily large and environmentally dubious trollies push their way past people with baskets?

Can't agree with lenk. We had a terrible process of trying to set up broadband with BT, which involved over a couple of weeks many hours of phone calls with people in the customer service centre who would not listen and apparently could not help us. Eventually gave up and wrote a blistering letter to the CEO of BT, and the next day had a call from an extremely polite and efficient woman who sorted the whole thing out in 24 hours. It's definitely worth it.

    *sits down, makes self comfortable*
  8. I'm a patient woman, but still I'd rather just change the time...
  9. Well, now I'm revealing my embarrassingly geeky side - so I hope you appreciate it Huguenot - but have you seen The Blue Planet? Edited for poor English. Still poor, but can't be bothered to rephrase.
  10. Weren't sparrowhawks the solution to a problem of pigeon infestation at the original Crystal Palace? Perhaps these are their great-great-tothepowerof10-grandchildren. Edited to add link and say ha! Sparrowhawks, Ma'am
  11. This is too much like taking candy from a baby, so I'll let Mockers get the next one in.

When it comes down to it, I don't think very many people really believe in true democracy, in the ancient-Athenian open-forum model* - look at the abuses and banishments that led to. *obviously excluding women, foreigners, slaves and other such undesirables, and with acknowledgements to Terry Pratchett.
  14. Jezza and Bob, BBW said nothing about spelling. That said, there should have been an apostrophe in "jokes"... Oh so mean!
  15. Knickers to you and me, charlie, from Admin himself/herself. Never been in the Bishop, so perhaps I should slide gracefully away from this thread.
  16. I meant two wrongs making a right, i.e. media bias against Ken vs. media bias against Boris - but then you went and edited your post, you swine you.
  17. Two wrongs, Lord Mac? I'm surprised to hear you say it.
  18. No, PGC, that's so 70's. The 21st-century swinger has a new and subtle set of signs, I've reproduced a couple below:-
  19. I saw about 5 minutes, and switched it off. Am not a great fan of Boris but it was such a coarse hatchet job that it was of no interest.
  20. Jeremy, the child has at least an uncle and a grandmother - the grandmother is vocally opposed to the adoption. And her father is believed to be alive but absent.
  21. Well, YOU'RE not invited to the Party of the Year, then, miseryguts. ;-) And after what you said about me at the swings!
  22. If you're going to buy an orphink, why not buy an actual orphink, rather than one with parents and grandparents who might, you know, care for it and miss it if it weren't there. It's not as though there's a shortage in Africa. That said, Madonna has donated enormous amounts of money to Malawian orphanages and raised their international profile so while accusations of cynicism and attention-seeking are easy to make stick, unless we're actively doing something about the many, many deprived children in our own back yards, I personally don't think we should be throwing too many stones.
  23. Code for "young people", Charlie, and perhaps a bit snobbish too. Who doesn't have something from TopShop in their wardrobe? I have Topshop sunbins and love them. That said, I'm generally old for TS, and hugely intimidated by the mid-teens waifish clientele, so come to think of it, grrr to them all!
  24. Sounds fab, are they all remarkably attractive, too? Or is it the one with the shaven-headed, bull-necked guy?
  25. I recorded it, BN5, it's all yours. And I haven't over-written it with the latest episode of The Unit either (whatever that is).
