  1. A friend of mine told me she'd read an article by a man who's made a fortune out of accurately predicting the weather - and it said this summer was going to be beautiful. She's on holiday at the moment - tart - but I'll get some information from her when she gets back.
  2. I almost forgot... - Usage of feck/fecking/feckers et al
  3. Was that for me? If so, no I wouldn't.
  4. A thought prompted by new posters asking questions about 'how we do things' on here. Not intended as guidelines and certainly not rules, which are specified by Admin, but just thoughts about how things generally seem to go. Does the forum have a collective set of behaviours or is it heterogenous? - Anything specifically about East Dulwich, whether serious or lighthearted, in the ED section - Anything not about East Dulwich, whether serious or lighthearted, in the Lounge - General discussions about local services / shops in the ED section BUT specific recommendations in Wanted, Offered and Recommendations (bit of a tricky distinction, this!) - Generally being expected to back up your opinions with logic and/or facts - Reasonable politeness expected... usually - A general but not exclusive tendency to liberalism, politically speaking - The Keef Convention: saying "What X said" in agreement to a previous post - Writing 'Edited due to... ' when editing a post, to explain why you went back to revise your post - Being suspicious of new posters raving about local services (not very nice, in my view, but understandable in the light of past fakes) - A love of music (Song Game, Lyrics Game, What is ED Listening To..) - A love of elbow-lifting! What else? Edited due to sounding much too much like rules the first time round. Ma'am.
  5. What mrsorganicsausage said. Asking people to have a thought for others isn't asking too much.
  6. Great post, candj. Thank you so much.
  7. Now, I definitely see you as a Dapper Dan man!
  8. Have a look at the Stop the Drop campaign for information on what councils spend on litter cleanup.

Having seen the argument about small children before, I'd comment that even closely supervised small children once mobile can get themselves into trouble remarkably quickly. I don't for a moment think that this means that dogs should be muzzled, but the argument that if parents were supervising their children properly there could be no accidents is simply nonsense.
  10. Hello 'lenk'. What are you going to do when you run out of letters of the alphabet? 3 down.... 23 to go.
  11. Kind of amazed by the responses to this thread. Are we really all shrugging our shoulders and saying Hey, big deal - kids are kids? It's as though the busful of people that sat and watched poppylucky get sworn at are all the people on this thread. Brendan is right - and also if we sit and ignore the kids on the bus misbehaving we might as well be telling them 'Well done, that's exactly how you should be'. Poppylucky - sorry to hear about your experience. If I'd been there, I'd have joined in on your side.

KK - "stuck up snoots that choose to reside on her turf" - wassat?? Mr. Moos is a well groomed chap, and wears some anonymous deoderant or other and one of a vast collection of posh aftershaves. Mmm...
  13. Well, the Woolie's won't be there any more. Er. Sorry - what do you want to know?
  14. God, that place really is bad. Not that it's even remotely likely but argh, noooooo. MY (not hubby's ;-)) hard-earned is not going there.
  15. Why a Next, Louisa?
  16. Or think about it and tell them something that you really do think is a weakness - but follow it up with how you deal with it, and turn it around. If you're talking to someone intelligent, that is. No-one's perfect but a bit of honesty with some thought behind will make you stand out. If you're talking to a muppet, however, go with the perfectionist line...
  17. Happy birthday for Monday, PGC - hope you had a lovely day with your kittens.
  18. The downside presumably being that it takes much longer and is therefore much more expensive? Or did I conclude incorrectly?
  19. Thanks linzkg for your post - though let's hope none of us ever has to use it. The trouble with any of these laws is that by definition it's the law-abiding dog-owners with the well-behaved dogs who obey them and the anti-social ones who don't. So one could easily imagine lots of people walking about with unnecessarily-muzzled dogs, and the dogs who really need the muzzling going free, with their owners laughing at the law. On a less serious point than a dog attack, I once asked a group of young men to take their dog out of the dog-free area (as it was then) on Goose Green. They just told me that if I wasn't from the council I couldn't tell them what to do and they didn't have to listen to me, and walked off. So unless the police start to spend their valuable time patrolling the parks of Southwark arresting people who don't obey these minor but important laws they can easily be ignored.
  20. Happy birthday Hibbs!
  21. Hona, you look lovely, you're one of the few men I know who can wear a morning suit unselfconsciously. Can I borrow your hankie? I always sniffle at weddings.
  22. LegalEagle's list was the only one for me that wasn't mired in the 60s. Sorry chaps.
  23. *buys Cilla-style hat* *waits expectantly*
  24. It would appear to be whatever people remember things were like 20 years ago, which was inevitably better than they are now.
