????, has the penny arrived!!? (was so tempted to write dropped.. but no.)

Ellen, pregnancy nausea (and tiredness!) is awful, especially if you haven't told everyone you're pregnant. Hang on in there, most people find it diminishes or even disappears after the first trimester, and try not to have an empty stomach - that is supposed to make it worse. Also, terribly unfairly, they say sickness is a sign of a healthy pregnancy!

Some time with my family. Sniff.

Daizie! They're not your shoes, are they?

How? Was it through choice?? brum, wow, thank you very much for your contribution... truly the art and the viewer interfacing in the most profound manner imaginable. For me you have become part of Bob's vision! But back to your point - so much rich detail.. I have been gazing in wonder since Bob posted and yet somehow that passed me by. The footprints are so tender, so uncertain - like many of us, they lack definite direction. So often we leap away from the constraints of our lives (here so movingly symbolised by the shoes), but cannot find a guiding path and wander away, trapped by our own myriads of choices. There's just more and more the more we look, isn't there? Much though I hesitate to sully the purity of the artist's integrity, I feel convinced he could make a tidy packet selling posters of the image to students and other open-minded seekers after knowledge. Have you considered selling the rights to the series, *Bob*?

Well, that's just pretentious shite.

*wells up* That really is beautiful, *Bob*. I don't know what to say. As a metaphor for our times... this cynical critic who thought she'd seen it all is quite overcome. The dying greenery struggling to breathe above the concrete. The way the shoes seem to be huddling together, lost, abandoned. Their soft roundness in stark contrast to the sharp lines of pavement and ramp. The artist has wisely chosen not to include the almost-clich?d dog turd as a focal point, but its absence hovers in the atmosphere. The suggestion that - maybe - the ramp leads to something - what? We are left wondering. Is there hope? Why are the shoes pointing away from the ramp? So much to say in such a simple image.

We rehearsed Poulenc's Videntes Stellam last night, absolutely beautiful. Along with practising descants, it made me feel really Christmassy!

Pickle, you iron muslins?! I thought I was quite clean and tidy (though was also a slobby teenager and young woman) but Pickle puts me to shame.

10 month old waking up for 2 hour stretches at night...any ideas?
Moos replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Getting the lunchtime nap to work seems to have a miraculous effect on sleeping at night. When my son was 7 months old and I was out of my mind with tiredness because he was sleeping brokenly during the day and getting up 3 or 4 times a night, I did a few weeks of pick-up/put-down sleep training, which almost worked but were then wrecked by a heavy cold that stopped him breathing easily. I then went going in and out of the room and soothed him every few minutes, but not picking him up. (Helenahandbasket's technique sounds excellent, I wish I'd thought of that instead, it was bloody hard). All of this was focused on during the day training, as I just didn't have the energy or willpower to do anything at night. It took 3 days, and he started to sleep for more than 40 minutes during the day, and Hallelujah through the night too. -
OK, so here's a real one. The company I work for is currently being sued by an ex-employee. This person was part of the HR team, and was responsible for office management. Her boss asked her to get the reception desk fixed, as it had a loose panel. She didn't do it, and a week later it fell on her leg and gave her a nasty bruise. She got signed off from work for a week by her GP, then came back to work and all was fine. Not long later she resigned to go travelling round the world. She is now suing the company for the hurt that she incurred. No idea whether she'll win, but even if she doesn't the company has to spend time and money defending itself. My point is similar to Huguenot's in that these absurd rules and signs may be an attempt to head incidents like this off at the past. When brum picks up a cactus and the resulting prick on his finger turns septic he might decide to sue. No idea how strong his case would be but I'm sure there would be someone prepared to represent him.

A really nice evening, haven't been to drinks for a while so was lovely to catch up albeit briefly with Annaj and Belle, Lord and Lady Mac, BN5, RosieH, buggie and Timster, as well as with Quids, OutOfFocus, Georgia and Raj, charliecharlie, LegalEagleish, Jah Lush, Hibbs, Allycat, TillieTrotter and even Bagpuss whom I haven't seen for donkeys', have my first proper conversation with Mr. Ben (blimey), and especially to meet 3 lovely new forumites: mazza123, JoJo09 and E whose forum name I didn't get. Great to see some friendly new faces. I'd have loved to have met Giggirl, boo. Perhaps next time! G&R - good luck with the move Quids and L - even more luck with the arrival of the Farthing!

Now starring as Captain Von Trapp and like yourself Mr. Lush something of a silver fox. The 'inspiration' page is unintendedly absolutely hilarious, by the way.

you forget RosieH, HB.

It was The Man With Two Brains: I love that film, hence the title. Which also, rather neatly I feel, answers Brendan's question.

Because we don't want people using us as hatpegs.
