  2. I think it's probably fair in the case of Peaches Geldof.
  3. How closely does it track the original series? Is it a remake in the Being Human sense (scene for scene) or is it more 'inspired by..'?
  4. Let's face it. all that OT stuff is just rehashed Sumerian legends with a bit of jewish legend and pedantic law making thrown in afterwards. The NT stuff is the ramblings of a revolutionary with a messiah complex (albeit with some pretty cool ideas). One of the most evil empires in history then embraced it, co-opted, institutionalised it, then spent then next few hundred years trying to sift the various interpretations into some sort of orthodoxy that squared the circle of unifying disparate, nonsenensical, self-contradictory stuff into a cogent whole (I mean the holy trinity, crappest compromise ever!!!) Not so much hypocritical as lacking internal consistency.
  5. THat is interesting, a sort of extension of tragedy of the commons and I have to say also has gut appeal to me too.
  6. HE has a point though. I keep hearing from Catholic acquaintances how liberalism (which is really the old enemy communism) is underming the family and family values in the west leading to moral bankruptcy. The sheer hypocrisy of it staggers me every time. If you think the crimes are imagined you might want to start with the Ryan commission. http://www.childabusecommission.com/rpt/ Then have a look at Spain where children were stolen from their families and sold for cold hard cash. Very moral.
  7. Given tradition in Italian and vatican politics, there was a period when Popes were always rich, powerful, scheming, womanising types carving out their own empire and far more concerned about temporal than spiritual matters. Surely there's only one candidate for the role!!!
  8. It was more fun when we had three popes!
  9. That's the fella, though it was really a series of wars that noone could quite remember why anyone had thought it was a good idea in the first place by the end . We had one about the same time, except at the end the winners wholeheartedly embraced what it had been really about all along, which wasn't all this honourable parliamentary independence stuff, but eradicating the world of papists.
  10. Ah well, it was a little joke, the Germans fought about 3 wars over this, everyone piled into the last one, it lasted 30 years and killed about 10 million people.
  11. "In fact, 30 per cent of Germans are Catholic." Little end of an egg, big end of an egg, it's hardly worth fighting over!!!
  12. Marvellous!!
  13. 1415 i'd say bit of a push for modern. Early modern maybe, usually some vague hadwaving about the renaissance or the end of the middle ages, but again the late middle ages could be argued to go into the 16th century and the renaissance could be argued as having started in the 14th century. Modern period usually starts with the French Revolution which is as good an arbitrary date as any other for pointless meaningless historical taxonomy. I must say I was surprised by this, I though the usual method for early retirement was poison!! It's probably down to ill health but I guess conceivably, if he had been approached about arrest warrants for perverting the cause of justice or somesuch it could be very interesting.... I'm looking forward to the new nexus version anyhow.
  14. It certainly wasn't a spectacle, it'd be tough to produce pretty rugby in those conditions, but it was most certainly an exciting game. Quite nice to get bragging rights in casa pibe, a rarity over the last ten years, especially as la piba was away last year and wouldn't answer the phone.
  15. Are we talking classical 70s jazz, 80s stuff with that athena aesthetic or your common-or-garden modern stuff?
  16. a one all draw is unlikely RD. dropgoal 3 try 5, convert it add another 2. I'm not sure what happens if it the ball hits the protective helmet when not in use though, is that 5?

How much is there in their bologneighs? I'll get my coat....
  19. How can i be wrong, I didn't assert anything. Be interesting to do it with 10000 people though.
  20. HAs anyone ever averaged the predictions to see how our crowd-prediction skills are? I guess a sample of a few thousand is probably better, but if it consistently hits the mark we could make money!!!
  21. ah yes, class film. Ferris Buellers Day Off meets Chinatown!!
  22. Are they appearing because he's tagging or namechecking one of your contacts? If so you could unsubscribe that friend or set them to only imnportant updates. If you click on the chap it may be possible to unsubscribe or block updates even though they're not your friends?
  23. Fair enough, if you're the type to get wound up by Spooks plot holes I can imagine the film would irk, but I fancied the love interest and that was enough for me.
  24. Attack The Block Yes it's a monster movie and a bit silly, but it was genuinely funny and enjoyable. I gather the director has taken on Neal Stephenson's Snowcrash which could either be marvellous (a la Watchmen, yes I expected the worst) or, well the title is inviting review headline pun hell.
