  1. I dug into where the term comes from and it was coined by someone from the deep south mistakingly using that spelling for acorn. Apparently it's not unknown in the deep south, where if you affect that accent it kind of makes sense that you might think that, plus, you know, they're egg shaped......
  2. Ok, more of an eggcorn than a malapropism, but just read "passed with flying collars" in Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash which made me chuckle. Hmmm, should have saved that one up for my drink with ma boab
  3. Quite a gap opened up above the relegation zone, LG and I battling for the real wooden spoon avoidance as maxxi is SO bad at this he doesn't count ;-P
  4. people like imposing arbitrary deadlines when attempting to do something they dont want to. They're also brillinat at ignoring them. THe oly way to really change is to actually want to, and if that's the case, like you say, why wait.
  5. Roeder and Bowyer ... shudders
  6. ok, so my trusty ipod classic is dying, skipping tunes randomly, not syncing properly, rebooting itself randomly etc. So really asking if there are any good alternatives out there I should be thinking about? Priorities for me are 1. sound quality, having ripped to lossless I'm less than impressed by the ipod classic, and I've a nano that is supposed to be better but is just as bad. 2. capacity, flash would be lovely, but big is better. 3. Itunes compatablity. In a I've started so I'll finish capacity, I have my plylists set up, all that lovely album art I don't want to have to get again etc. err that's probably it.
  7. awww look, cwoud wooks like a catty watty
  8. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21252362 Sattelite of Britain covered in snow shows that Britian is white apparently, who'd have thought. Also, short of lincolnshire having been washed into the norht sea, it looks identical to last year's photo of snow on britain, and remarkably similar to the 2010 photo of britain with snow all over it.
  9. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/globalbusiness/9261905/High-earners-say-au-revoir-to-France.html "The source insisted that it would not mean a wholesale exit from France, but rather that employees would be offered options. However, some staff have already formally asked for transfers, with most plumping for London. London, of course, already has a French population in the hundreds of thousands, with Chelsea and South Kensington dubbed the unofficial 21st arrondissement of Paris."
  10. Wasn't London the seventh largest city in the French elections?
  11. on the subject of FSoG, even La Piba with her guilty pleasures bookcase stuffed full of Cecilia Aherne, said it was just awful. You don't need to climb a mountain to know it's a mountain, but at least the view rocks. When it comes to turds I'd strongly advise taking things on trust.

  13. Yeah, I'm forever slipping over on Las Ramblas, Madrid is much safer, well, apart from the muggings.
  14. http://www.geography-map-games.com/geography-games-Counties-of-England-_pageid161.html discussing the online citizenship test revamp somebody asked where wiltshere was, so we did this online counties thing. I wasn't as bas as i thought I was in fairness though quite a few were a second stab. 44,000 http://www.geography-map-games.com/geography-games-Counties-of-England-_pageid161.html I'm sure I'd struggle with the welsh one and just no point at all my doing the scottish one.

  25. The time North Korean commandoes tried to assasinate the South Korean president. "And it was all going to plan until the afternoon of January 19, when the infiltrators accidentally came upon four woodcutters. A debate ensued among the North Koreans; an ill-fated decision was made. Rather than kill the South Koreans, ensuring their silence, the commandos lectured them for four hours. A communist revolution, they argued with ideological zest, was coming soon to the south. The civilians were sent on their way with a grim warning: tell the authorities and we?ll kill your families. The woodcutters went to the police immediately." http://www.nknews.org/2013/01/when-nk-commandos-tried-to-assassinate-south-koreas-president/
