  1. Surely it's the 'boys are back in town'
  2. This is better than Eastenders and better than moaning about Somerfield / shootings / dogs / etc etc
  3. I grew up near Cheam and went to school in Sutton so know it pretty well. It's a pretty good place to live if you like suburbia. Really nice pub called the Red Lion which is tucked away up a side street, OK high street, goodish choice of restaurants, good transport links, good schools, typical suburbia.
  4. I thought of that too Georgina. But she asked everyone's permission and they all posed - so you'd have to be pretty thick to agree if the flowers weren't for your other half.
  5. I love the Gowlett and I love Thursday evenings in there. I was in there early last night to play my records then ended up staying till closing time and getting a little bit merry. And the pizza was yummy
  6. My friend Carole took photos on Valentine's Day in Lordship Lane of people buying flowers - have a look at www.caroleevans.co.uk/ValDay/ - about the first dozen are in East Dulwich. PM me if it's you or you know who the people are. She'd like to contact the models to tell them to check out her website
  7. Perhaps we should have a match making section within the forum?
  8. Yeah what's going on? I walked past the tape but no sign of an accident or anything but causing a fair bit of chaos
  9. I'm interested - let me know which day you decide on and what time. I hope you play the rules that says no more than 5 on a point. Some people play that you can have unlimited numbers, yeuch. Oh and I've got a board
  10. I live near where the proposed Somerfield is going to be and personally I'm pleased. I only ever go into the other food shops up there to buy a paper or a pint of milk, do my big shop at Sainsburys and then buy day to day stuff at Somerfield. I don't have any complaints about the food there. And any development to improve the stretch by the library is welcome. Whilst the rest of Lordship Lane basks in organic trendiness, our little stretch seems to have been forgotten.
  11. I live on Crystal Palace Road and love it. Quiet yet a stones throw from both the buses going down Barry Road and Lordship Lane. The speed humps sort of keep traffic manageable
  12. I saw one the other day in Brixton. I thought it was exciting too...and I'm a girl
  13. 1st prize was all the money that they took as entry money which came to a grand total of ?19 which was pretty strange as there were definitely more people than that taking part. C'mon own up, who didn't pay? 2nd prize was a ?20 food voucher (which we won, having defected for one night only from the Herne quiz). There was also a free round of drinks to the team who got the most right in the first round. It was a good quiz (not as good as the Herne though) and I wish them luck
  14. I think the Herne is normally open on Christmas Day but it may only be if you're eating, in which case you have to book.
  15. I noticed that the Mag are restarting their Sunday night quiz this Sunday - same time, but different format, different quizmaster. We faithfully followed Pietro down to the Herne so what a connundrum. What to do?
  16. I've had a look at the list and not only are their names and addresses listed but also their phone numbers and email addresses! At least there are only 2 in SE22 and I don't know them, whew.
  17. Yep quiz is still on Tuesdays but don't know what time it starts. The best quiz is the Herne on Sundays - starts at 7.30 ?2 per person to enter with the fab Pietro as quizmaster and mega cash prizes
  18. I ate there last night and the portions were huge and I couldn't finish mine and I do like my food - applies to both mains and puds - and it was gorgeous. I don't think it's expensive considering what other bars are charging on Lordship Lane for smaller portions. Mains are roughly ?9-11
  19. Finally made it to Magnolia last night and I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's canteen like and girly and flowery but it had a good vibe and the menu looked good. It was reasonably busy for a Tuesday especially as the champions league was competing. They didn't have a wine list which I thought was a bit odd considering they'd been open for over 2 weeks
  20. What about upstairs at the Magdala, whoops mean the Magnolia. If it still looks like what it used to look like before Rose took over, it's a really nice room. On Lordship Lane so all the buses go past though a bit of a trek from BR stations.
  21. My son is in year 11 at Charter and I've been really pleased with it. I also know parents of kids who are at Kingsdale who are also very pleased. It's really improved over the past few years. But bear in mind that the catchment areas for most of the primary schools and Charter are very small. Plus I live at the top of Lordship Lane near the library and we didn't get a place at Forest Hill as we were 500m outside the catchment area and I know we're just on the edge of the Charter School catchment area. Children who live more in the centre of East Dulwich but towards the Rye didn't get in.
  22. I like the sound of a Scrabble social! But if you do like tennis then Camber tennis club is really sociable and suitable for beginners too as new members get a series of tennis lessons free. Plus there's a social Monday evening session aimed at not brilliant women players. I have to admit I'm biaised as I'm the secretary but do have a look at the website - www.tennis-at-camber.org - the club is on the south circular by the junction with Lordship Lane opposite the Harvester
  23. The Mag was my local and I loved it in there, both for the quiz and to watch footie. And I'm a mother. I've just walked past the 'Magnolia' and my heart sank - it looks clinical, canteenish and shite. At least the quiz has moved to the Herne but where to watch footie? Forest Hill Tavern? CPT?
