  1. from the above article, point 16 is NOT helpful, and is a blatant slur and there is no mention of the terrorist actions of Hamas that forced Israel into implementing security measures. Israel is NOT an apartheid state ffs
  2. I've been meaning to look into a similar discrepancy when using my Tom-Tom. If my speedo says 70mph the sat-nav says 65 mph and in order to get the sat-nav mph to go red I have to nearly be registering 80mph on the car speedo....my daughter says it's because the car speedo is doctored to show a higher speed than you are actually doing for safety reasons?
  3. If your grand daughter wants to go to a Russell group uni , which, given her GCSE results, should be her aim and her school should be really encouraging it, then she will need to research her options thoroughly. Warwick for example requires students who do not have A2 Chemistry to do a supplementary course. I know for example that King's College London used to give their 1st year Engineers a maths test at the start of the degree and if students did not get 90% they were required to do maths on Wednesdays until 9pm. I think (as someone who has been working in the secondary sector for 20 years) that your granddaughter has great potential and should be aiming for a prestigious institution and should tailor her future courses to getting into one as a degree from a Russell group uni will carry more weight than say, a degree from an ex-polytechnic.
  4. When jumble sales were all the rage, as a student in a strange town, I remember scouring the local area newspaper for jumble sales in 'posh' areas....I suppose if scavengers flock to East Dulwich, it must be a 'posh area'.
  5. Forgot the link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_to_Buy
  6. It just so happens that the Right To Buy was first in the 1959 General Election Manifesto of the LABOUR Party (Labour lost though)- which only goes to prove that the fascist left LIE and LIE...
  7. Good article from the BBC...(the papers have their own agenda) http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-36160928
  8. To do anything in the Biological Sciences at uni would require Chemistry, and to get further than A level in Physics, A level Maths is essential. Universities that do the 'scientific' psychology degrees prefer students to have traditional science A levels to study Psychology, rather than Psychology A level because they like to mold the students into their way. Art Therapy is a postgraduate course done after an Art degree or Psychology degree.
  9. If only Richard Dawkins had gone into politics.....one can only dream....
  10. I went in today and there were the usual staff, the lovely Scandinavian lady is quite pregnant...and I filled the whole prescription which usually I only get a partial prescription
  11. The 'state' ,or public sector I suppose has many people working for it that have no social conscience and since it is almost impossible to sack people who work in the public sector unless they do something really dire, and I mean REALLY dire, then there is a lot of unproductive almost dead wood.
  12. Those trunks are verging on porno and can't be good for fertility
  13. Clear purpose- surveillance- it's the world we live in
  14. The NHS is a victim of its own success. It has been allowed to be exploited by people who have no entitlement and some of the staff I have worked with in the NHS are less than conscientious- knowing that it is almost impossible to sack them. I would have liked to remain working in it but I could not stomach the ineptitude of some of the people in my department so I went into teaching which is properly 'policed'.
  15. At least the cases are made in Italy..http://www.explorercases.com/?lan=en
  16. I remember reading somewhere that when Steven Speilberg was young and sirens were heard in his neighbourhood, his mother bundled the family into the car and went off in search of the emergency. She apparently threw her husband out of the house for being boring.....
  17. The Housing related account.... http://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/southwark-council-owed-millions-in-rent-arrears-every-year/ oh dear.
  18. I think we all know what people are capable of after a 'mother' was found to be encouraging her young kids to steal trainers during the riots....
  19. A friend was having an all day pre- heart op assessment along with about 15 other people and got to the echo-cardiogram bit. There were 6 cubicles and 1 technician because 2 were on courses, 1 was on holiday, 1 was off sick and 1 was at lunch what a shambles and such bad organisation.
  20. Yes employers do read between the lines and if you stick to what grok said they will know that there is a problem.
  21. Has anyone mentioned that they each cost ?360,000 to train and then they sod off...and they would be nowhere without nurses and other support staff.... Under Blair my relatives were frequently sent for NHS appointments to Harley Street...to see docs that work in the NHS. They should suck it up imho since their clients are flat on their backs compliant most of the time...unlike the cops who have to deal with crims and are not allowed to strike...and the hostile general public.
  22. Well, well we are now borrowing our own money- with interest I daresay https://uk.news.yahoo.com/european-investment-bank-lend-1-billion-pounds-uk-112936803--sector.html?nhp=1
  23. Typical Labour incompetence in financial matters- although judging by the North Cross Road parking fines thread they pre-empted this
  24. It was inevitable that, due to the expansion of the use of electronic surveillance, improvements in home and car security, that police numbers would be cut as fire service numbers were cut due to improvements in prevention- this is to be welcomed surely. In the last year, after a fall in crime figures over the last 20 years, overall crime rose by 2% last year. Unfortunately violence against the person increased by 21%...... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11557188/Violent-crime-jumps-by-21pc.html
  25. Yes Louisa and a good thing too. During the last Tory government when Mrs T was in the Labour LEAs use eduction as a political football as they had substantial autonomy. Therefore the LEA could withhold spending 'at the chalk face' and spend more at the Education department on admin and stuff that did not benefit our children. Teachers were in collusion with this as they are, in the main extreme, lefties. It is totally unacceptable and one of the reasons why I loathe Labour and everything it has done to undermine the education of the working classes in the UK
