  1. Hurrah. library open. Except that it's not. Still no entry. To borrow a book you still have to fiddle around with click and collect. I can go into all shops , ride buses and trains, drink in pubs and socialise and STILL cannot enter our library . PATHETIC.
  2. 9.45 and web site says closed. I can't believe that they want still more holidays. Does any one know if dozy bunch have actually opened???
  3. We have had three sets of professionals, presumably experts in their fields, fiddling and faddling around for at least ten years to no effect whatever apart from prolonging this appalling eyesore. So,malumbu, on reflection I feel that boneheads is far too complimentary a description. Half wits is more appropriate. As to moving, if those amongst us less than enamoured of Southwark Council, were to move the borough would be half empty.
  4. I know that this is a hackneyed topic, having been dragging its weary self around for many, many years. However, the wrecked pub has now reached such a stage of terminal graffitied collapse, and total dereliction that even the bone heads at Southwark, Dulwich Estate and the lessee brewers must see that, at long last, a solution must surely now be found. Apart from its disgusting appearance it is openly inviting squatters and must be a major fire hazard. Can someone, anywhere, anyone just knock some heads together??
  5. We are charitable souls in this forum, are we not? Let us then assume that DulwichDaddio thought that he was being funny. Not really very amusing. Southwark are still silently hunkered down in their bunkers, so the libraries remain chained up for fear of an infected book. These are vital and expensive community resources. It is disgraceful that they are arbitrarily shut down like this when others in london.are, at least. partly open.
  6. They'll only be happy when we're all off to Sainsbury's on donkeys. In the meantime the Chinese are building lots and lots of coal fired power stations.
  7. I have had frustrating and obfuscating correspondence with Councillor Cryan who has now passed the buck to a Councillor Alice MacDonald. I have chased her up again today to try to get some action, however dilatory. She is on; [email protected]. You have a try!!
  8. From my experience I recall that the freeholder can usually organise a single insurance policy for the whole building and pick up a whacking commission.
  9. Pathetic service indeed. And we just pay for it.....
  10. I have a son in Barnet who has been using his local library on a "click and collect" basis for many weeks. I have been pressing the two councillors who have apparently been in charge of Southwark libraries.. They obviously have MScs in obfuscation and vacillation. Whilst I understand that all libraries can reopen on July 4th (yawn yawn)there is nothing to prevent a limited service now. Can we PLEASE have more action and less lethargy??
  11. All down hill from when it was the "Manchester Guardian". Now just a rest home for left wing luvvies and the woke fraternity.
  12. Gave up and went to see the surgery. All done in seconds. Life is too short to bugger around with half baked and unintelligible websites.
  13. Since my surgery will not permit prescription renewal by phone any more (safety reasons??) I have just spent the last 30 mins trying to do so on line. Absolute shambles. Just going around in circles. Has any sane person managed to solve it??
  14. If DE ,or which ever wretched dozy builder who now still owns the old abandoned petrol station site in DV, would only remove the totally unnecessary and useless green hoarding blocking access to Gilkes Crescent, EDG traffic could again filter right and hence avoid the highly polluting and infuriatingly lengthy queues at the traffic lights. GC residents would not like it but, hey, for the good of the community we all have a cross to bear.
  15. I wonder why the police bother since the courts hand out such pathetic sentences.
  16. Queue at main M and S, but one by ED station bulging with stock and virtually empty. Hope that this helps.
  17. Pathetic. it opened in its usual half hearted fashion for a couple of days last week but has now mysteriously been chained up again all this weekend. Having already had an eight month holiday, presumably on full pay, this is really disgraceful. Does anyone know when they are likely to bestir their dozy selves again??
  18. I know that the funds for these mad LTNs flow from central government which only makes its bankruptcy worse. I am also more than aware, as all should be, that these crazy road "improvements" have been going on for many years. It is probably academic, in any event, where the funds come from as it is always,us, the tax payers in some form or other. Future generations will have to deal with a massive problem, particularly when interest rates inevitably increase. Even apart from covid funding, the state is still spending our money like a drunken sailor.
  19. Perhaps one of our councillors could explain this enduring mystery. Each year we are told that essential services such as leaf clearing and pothole repairs are cut back yet again due to financial limitations. Each year, however, we seem to get more and more daft, hugely expensive and unnecessary road "improvements", some of which are reversed shortly afterwards at yet more expense. The budget for these lunacies appears to be limitless, with monies apparently gushing from an enduring and bottomless pit. There can be no doubt that the greatest fun in all the world is playing silly games with other peoples' money.

    Monsters?

Does anyone know if the monsters in CP Park have been renovated? We hope to take grand children but the last time we saw them they were very dilapidated and unmonsterlike.
  21. The developers of the huge site behind the DV shops and fronting Gilkes Crescent, for some extraordinary reason stuck up a big green hoarding blocking access from Dulwich Village to Gilkes. This was a short cut to East Dulwich Grove and relieved all the RH turn pressure at the traffic lights which now largely cause these immense tailbacks. The land has had planning consent for years, nothing has happened and the hoarding serves no useful purpose at all. Dulwich Estate are not interested as one might expect. Could 100 Dulwich not get on the case?
  22. i have found the ordering system shambolic. Having been notified on two occasions that items were available and waiting, they have lost both of them with completely wasted journeys. With the staff having had six months sabbatical, presumably on full pay, one would have thought that something more efficient could have been produced. They also have the cheek to close on Sundays when most people would,I would have thought, wanted to use the library. With pubs, theatres , restaurants etc. all open it surely cannot be beyond the wit of man to open something as simple as a library?? I too have been a great fan and user of Dulwich library for many years. This is very disappointing. Perhaps a Big Cheese at Southwark can explain?
