  1. I know not strictly ED but here goes. Dulwich Village~beautiful Georgian mansions, two pristine parks, the prestigious Picture Gallery, the "Dog" glowingly renovated, a tranquil green oasis in the maelstrom of South London, for all our benefits.. In its very midst a vandalised, filthy and reeking telephone box, an insult to its Conservation Area location. I have approached: BT~the operators (although I cannot believe that any one would ever use it). NOT interested. Dulwich Estate~nowt to do with us~NOT interested. Dulwich Society (" To foster and safeguard the amenities of Dulwich")~NOT interested Southwark Council~far too busy spending our taxes on daft, expensive road "improvements"~NOT interested. Where to turn to now, or do we just let this dilapidated sore fester?
  2. The raised convex slippery edges on the kerbs are LETHAL and an accident waiting to happen, particularly in this weather.. Would that our tame councillors note and ensure that heads roll at Southwark. Appalling design.
  3. A bottomless pit of money for absurd road "improvements" but nothing for gritting the roads, doubtless due to Wicked Tory Austerity.
  4. I am continually amazed by the plethora of Earth Mums and Dads in DV wobbling through heavy traffic on bikes with their small children stuck in front (or behind) in flimsy, home made plastic carts, presumably doing their misguided little bit to save the planet. I have even seen one tiny child perched on his father's crossbar, without even a helmet! "Elf and Safety" should surely take an interest, or even the schools??
  5. If it is a congestion problem why does the P4 from Brixton to Lewisham provide an incomparably better service? No, the answer is that Abellio does not really care what their customers think.
  6. What a silly message, Dog duck. Perhaps pressure from EDF readers might conceivably produce a reaction when all other avenues certainly do not!
  7. Three times in the past two weeks I have tried to use the wretched P13 bus and each time I have been let down, twice in Lordship Lane towards Streatham, and just now at 4pm or so at West Dulwich station eastbound, in pouring rain as children were waiting on leaving school. Each time I was expected to wait at least 35 mins for a scheduled 15 mins service, but ending up walking. Complaints to TFL and Abellio (should be LastBellIo) are ignored. What to do??
  8. *I despair. I cannot understand why, with government cutbacks everywhere, we can't afford policemen or soldiers, NHS under pressure, and a host of others, there seems to be a bottomless pit of funds for daft road "improvements". The greatest fun in all the world seems to be spending someone else's money, preferably on some absurd project that nobody wants or needs (and don't start me on the mad foreign aid fiasco!) As the taxpayers forking out for this vanity project to keep some cossetted bureaucrats employed at the Town Hall, are we allowed to discover how much this fiasco cost us or are we not allowed to know?? Perhaps our councillors, who seem to be powerless, can elucidate??
  9. And we are frittering away ?1BN per month on the fatuous foreign aid programme. just to show the world how virtuous and caring we are. What a bunch of idiots run this country.
  10. I know~but not a new pub. How do I dispose of them, as now fully recovered from ankle injury? King's not interested, dustmen will not take them, no go with charity shops and I do not fancy a trip specifically up to the Old Kent Rd. for these? Is there any one limping out there who might use them. or perhaps an ankle fetishist?? Seems a terrible waste as we taxpayers have coughed up for them!
  11. Free protein
  12. Pathetic sentence. The bleeding hearts will doubtless let this scum out to do it again after a mere six years The law is an ass.
  13. We used "ROOMS" in Mottingham. Family firm~brilliant, could not fault them.
  14. Everyone advises opening windows, fresh air etc but this morning humidity outside is 85% which I guess is pretty normal for winter. Letting fresh air in will therefore only make matters worse as our house is 75%. I think that mancity68 is right~ a dehumidifier is the answer!
  15. We have a modern detached house with bags of insulation but humidity hovers around 75% which is apparently too high and could be making it feel cold. All advice is to open windows but the humidity is usually at least that outside so useless. Has anyone any experience of running a continuous dehumidifier to reduce humidity levels and does it help?
  16. I was told by a postman that Royal Mail are not now allowed to display their various daily collection times as our Masters in Brussels have deemed it "la competition injuste" and banned it.
  17. Can anyone please explain the point of Avios/BA Amex card? Having gone through all the hoops to get the damn thing hardly any retailer accepts it and BA themselves want to charge some 1% to use it! Seems totally pointless.
  18. There seems to be a bottomless pit for money for daft road "improvements", mad cycle lanes and their subsequent removal, but barely anything for road repairs and potholes. Similarly the absurd overseas aid budget cannot be spent fast enough, HS2 gobbles up our money whilst the police, defence, NHS and other essentials are starved. What a bunch of losers of all parties are running the country!
  19. If this old Loon Corbyn got in (God help us)with the prospect of this absurd Garden Tax, logically this would happen: House values would collapse to a level where, as the building cost is more or less stable, the site value would drop to a figure where the levy would cost about the same as the present affordable council tax, which would be abolished. Residential values typically in ED would halve to about ?450,000 ie ?50,000 X 3% garden tax =?1500 pa. Great swathes of the country would be decimated, many with massive drops in residential values. Every bank and building society would become insolvent. There would be financial Armageddon with the pound in freefall, interest rates and inflation at Weimar Republic levels, BOE printing presses rolling day and night and UK and our citizens largely bankrupt and in massive negative equity. Just like Venezuela which Corbyn so admires. Frantic general election with The Tories sweeping back into Government in their habitual role of clearing up the mess Labour always leaves.Don't forget the Labour minister of the last Socialist shambles "There's no money left".The difference this time with this crazed Marxist lot is that it will take decades to restore the economy if ever, particularly with the mass emigration of so much talent and wealth which would undoubtedly occur. Actually I think that this Tory government is also pretty clueless as to how the economy works and prosperity is created despite State interference, but is infinitely better than the useless alternative.
  20. All semantics and dodging the question. If you are now paying around ?1500 pa in Council tax this will at least double initially with massive further increases. So "We will initiate and...consider new options such as a land value tax." If you believe that this is not forthcoming under a Labour Government you will believe anything!
  21. Take the value of your house, subtract building cost equals land value. Apply initial rate of 0.85% rising to 3%, so typically ?500,000 for ED but let's be be generous and say ?400,000 = ?3,500 for first year rising to ?12,000 pa . Sounds sensible, eh? Happy with that, Helen Hayes, and subsequent collapse of housing market? Is Corbyn mad or just seriously deluded?
  22. A van crashed into the back of our car whilst we were stationery at a zebra crossing in Norbury. No one hurt. Exchanged details, they accepted blame and paid for repairs, very courteously. No police or insurance company involved. However we were then plagued by letters from "claims advisers" desperate to get us to sue for whiplash and other spurious "injuries". We sent them packing, but how did they know??
  23. It seems to me that supermarket potatoes have become increasingly tasteless as their price increases. I have just paid an extortionate sum for a tiny packet of "Jersey Royals" from a well known local supermarket which tasted of absolutely nothing, or perhaps a slight trace of soggy cotton wool. Apparently supermarkets are only interested in long shelf life to the detriment of any flavour. Can anyone recommend a green grocer if there is one left who can sell us spuds with that lovely earthy tang of bygone years?
  24. SC closed Eastbound at Croxted Road with police tapes at corner of Gallery rd. Apparently accident(?) but no sign of it.
  25. yup would love to see some pictures.
