  1. Let me finish this as I started it. I am a mature cautious cyclist. I have come off my bike twice in the past year, once due to a huge hidden pothole and once when a lorry driver (very apologetic) did not see me. Each time I was blameless and luckily received only a few bumps and bruises. Any child perched up with me would probably have been killed. Bicycles are flimsy, vulnerable machines and inherently unstable. Common sense tells us that this dangerous practice should be banned. And don't get me started on the lunatics riding at night with dark clothes and no lights......
  2. Actually I ride my bike every day and wouldn't dream of being so irresponsible as to balance small children around in traffic with the flimsiest of protection. Cyclists get an appalling press anyway for riding like lunatics and these stupid people do not help.
  3. I was passed this morning in Herne Hill by a woman on a bike with one toddler perched on the crossbar and another small child behind her, all this wobbling along in the usual heavy traffic, presumably intent upon saving the planet. I always thought that those silly little carts attached to bikes were pretty vulnerable but this just seemed hideously dangerous. Am I alone in wondering why the ubiquitous Elf'n Safety do not outlaw this practice whilst continually hectoring us in so many minor areas as if we are children?
  4. West Dulwich is only 12 mins to Victoria unless leaves on line.
  5. Help please. We have bought a Yamaha YAS 207 sound bar to improve the poor sound quality from our 5 yr old Panasonic TV. The installation instructions are doubtless intelligible to those in the know but try as we might we cannot get any sound from it.Is there any one out there fully conversant with this sort of installation who could visit and sort it out for us for a modicum of cash??
  6. We have a laminate wooden floor which has become stained over the years. Can someone recommend a competent tradesman who can advise??
  7. Despite wasting millions of pounds annually on purely cosmetic and unnecessary road "improvements", some bean counting jobsworth at Southwark Council has had the brilliant idea of saving a few pounds by no longer funding the magnificent display of flowers which has graced the DP entrance here and has given so much pleasure for many, many years. Can our elected councillors not save us from such miserable parsimony?
  8. I understand from the grape vine that DE and the leaseholders had reached agreement to redevelop the site to provide flats (yes, including affordable) and a supermarket (Waitrose/Aldi??) but Southwark jobsworth planners have blocked it as they insist of a "Community Pub", despite the fact that no other pub operator would look at this site, and pubs are closing wholesale every where. God save us from the cretins who control us.
  9. Huge tail backs due to road works at West Dulwich station. Avoid at all costs.
  10. The absurd and punitive levels of stamp duty have killed the market.
  11. This is a small job of just lopping off a couple of branches about 20ft off the ground. The recommended DE people are either not interested or too busy.
  12. you mustn't say "bastards" these days as it offends those born out of wedlock and is very un-PC. I put "lunatics running the asylum" on this forum and was given a wigging as it offends real lunatics. Beware the soppy PC bunch!
  13. Kford is very naughty. I also used the word "scum" in the Hither Green thread and was severely admonished as only unpleasant people used that word about the criminal classes. We must realise that they are really only vulnerable gentle human beings who inadvertently chose a valid alternative lifestyle as their father had shouted at them and Ma made them eat their hated greens.None of their illegal activities are, in fact, their fault but forced upon them by the unfairness of Society. We are all therefore to blame blah blah....
  14. Not worth a reply. Missed the point totally. Pathetic.
  15. Does the ever so PC rendelharris not think that if we ranters and the public outrage that followed not occurred that the lethargic wheels of justice would have got around to releasing our Hero so quickly?? A similar incident in Catford last December when a violent drunken intruder was killed, strangely attracted little public attention or outcry and the brave householder was hauled up to face a murder charge months later at doubtless huge public expense, before being summarily acquitted by the jury.
  16. Let's just accept that the Law is an Ass, and the lunatics are running the asylum.
  17. Yes Dave R, let's just lock the old chap up for a few weeks as he's obviously a danger to the burglar community, whilst the ever so politically correct CPS fiddle around deciding if this psychopathic pensioner should be charged.
  18. Perhaps these proselytising bleeding hearts might feel a little differently if it was their house and family invaded and threatened in the night by this vicious filth?
  19. Unbelievable. Pensioner attacked by two scum burglars in his home. He fights back and in the struggle stabs and kills one (pity not both). Police, who have given up on theft and burglaries, and with London streets littered with bodies, arrest the householder. I despair of this country.
  20. I hear that Pekingese Kebabs are opening in Lordship Lane, specialising in Spaniel cutlets.
  21. A lot of places sell a white powder in a red and black plastic jar as an ant killer, which I have found to be absolutely useless. Sean DIY opposite ED station sells a gell called Nippon which is brilliant. The little devils carry it back into the nest where ideally it kills the queen. Without that regicide you will never get rid of them.
  22. Yes.I agree with i*rate. I am an Old Codger too and had 65 million Germans trying to kill me in my pram. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
  23. Wouldn't want to be down wind of them....
