  1. I haven't burnt anything, but have asked some questions.
  2. I guess it depends how much garden waste - I could easily fill 30/40 brown bins !
  3. Garden waste every few weeks ?
  4. Wot - no fires in gardens allowed at all ?!
  5. Yeah people on here are just too wise - nice try though.
  6. "snail farming is the oldest recorded farming enterprise" Must have been a bugger to catch them, I bet the farmers were fit !
  7. I ordered an IKEA day bed recently for one of the kids. There were several boxes, but the mattresses came rolled and vacuum-packed. I thought I'd been sent a couple of quilts but when you open the mothers they bust out like the incredible hulk, except they're not green and don't have a bad temper. Some day I'll Google HOW they get a mattress that big packaged down so small. Meanwhile, they're comfy matresses, obviously no springs tho.
  8. Frome may be better than it was 20yrs ago, but rolling shit in glitter maketh not necessarilyeth a good town. I think they pronouce it 'Froom'. As you'd expect.
  9. Yeah P68 I was being ironic - with a dash of sarcasm ('sarcasme') thrown in for extra flavour.
  10. "How do they source them? They come from a snail farm in Burgundy, like all escargot de Bourgogne. The clue is in the title" Oh I get it. Using the posh expression 'Bourgogne' to describe an ordinary French region. No doubt to justify the massively inflated costs of menu items !
  11. "Perhaps eating Snails makes some people feel a little bit more continental... European.. " And so it goes on. Oh well.... Yeah if I want to feel 'more Italian' I pop round to Oddonos for an ice cream. When I wanna feel 'more North West Chinese' I head over the hill to Silk Road in Camberwell. Those times when I just need to feel a bit more 'North Sri Lankan Tamil' I jump in the car and cruise by Everest Curry King in Lewisham. Like that, right ?
  12. Down Lordship Lane that French House gaff has the nerve to label their buttery pastry crescent-shaped pastries as "croissants". Pretentious bastards. (...or should that be bastard pr?tentieux)
  13. "They refer to them as Escargot" so it sounds posh" In the same way that 'Indian' restaurants refer to their wholegrain flour-based flat pan heated bread as "Chapati", to sound all exotic and cool. Nothing to do with that actually being the term used for the item in that region.
  14. Having not ever seen the food critic, he's got an extremely punchable face.
  15. "Cath Kidston" Oh yeah ! And that's without beer !!!
  16. To be fair, I do remember a time here when ED was so rough there were no high-fashion prams crowding the pavement, trinket shops, ?17.50 hot dogs, gastro-pubs or hipsters. Proper scary rough that was.
  17. plaster doesn't take that long to dry out mate. It wasn't lime plaster an inch think, it was palsetr boarded and skimmed I expect.
  18. I've been here 27 years and it was fine then. Sure, a couple of pubs got a bit rough and you had the odd tumble in the bogs but hardly the Bronx. Just because Cath Kidston tablecloths weren't being used on pub tables and snacks weren't served on slates doesn't qualify it as rough. I think, given the change in demographic in ED - especially over the last 15yrs, there's bound to be myths / bollox about what it used to be like. Just a shame so many of them are such BS.
  19. Ha ha - a mate said my lounge would be nice when it was finished (I'd finished it the previous week).
  20. 'ageist' ?! Jeremy, you feel crushed mate ! Maybe get some counselling later.
  21. oh yeah cheers - I must have overlooked those solutions when they were staring me right in the face !
  22. Rendel mate I don't think there's any point telling people who's bosses are looking at them coming in late for work day after day and week after week that it's really no big deal because somewhere else on Earth some poor bloke has to walk 5 hours for water ! What are you on about ?! The pressures of getting to work are tied-in with large mortgages (as they have to be these days) and high rents needing to be paid. If everyone was just popping out to the gallery or a picnic your comment may carry some weight, but they way you laid it out I'm afraid it doesn't. 'get over it' makes it sound like people haven't got worries and pressures - if they didn't WHY would they be so concerned about the frigging trains ? I'm probably on my way out of ED/London because I find it untenable on a consistent basis, recently I was working in Milton Keynes / Leicester and with cancelled trains/Southern strikes/having to get to Victoria or other transport modes just to get North of the river it was a nightmare. I needed to be there by 0800 and there's no genuine reason that should not be possible - all that's needed is scheduled bloody trains run on time FFS. It's not OK. So your man with the 5 hour walk is welcome over here to do what the people already here cannot do - namely, run a train service !
  23. yeah fair play Sue, I guess we're jumping the gun a bit ! (sorry Memsaab !)
  24. Would make a good location for a bar perhaps.
