  1. "Bizarre (and sexist) 'man up' comment from KidKruger..." James I was responding mainly to Louisa's oh-so-passive ("look what they did to me") phrasing about being 'forced' off the pavement by those baddy mummies. But seeing as you're agreeing with her then I apply it to you too, plus anyone else who's an adult complaining about a woman in a pram bullying them. I could sort of understand the complaint if it came from a child though. I think 'man-up' is a general expression, just like mankind, manual labour, manhandle, Manny Pacquiao, mandible, Manchester United, etc. et al. Louisa I'm not quite sure who you actually DO like, last week you were hating on the regular users / culture of Rye Lane being beneath your standards and now you hate posh people. Make your mind up please. I guess you could hate both but it doesn't leave much room for the love. Oh I get it, you like white people. Who are NOT posh, but working class.
  2. And those Leo Sayer tracks are coming over so much brighter now...
  3. I'm laying it on Tuesday, it's cool and damp, not to hot yet and the days are getting longer. the old turf has actually reduced to plain old soil so there's no existing lawn to dig up. I'll put some air into the top layer day before and see how that goes.
  4. if you get treated like that on the street by a posho or someone not so posh then you deal with it there and then, you're hardly going to get stabbed by a yummy mummy so what's the difficulty in nailing it when it happens ? I think it's more a case of bleating on EDF about something which you could easily solve, on every occasion it occurs, by addressing it there and then - you feel bad for not having done so at the time so are now venting the frustration here. Next time, man-up and sort it !
  5. Louisa: "Maybe because I myself have been forced off the path on numerous occasions?" Stop being a pussy and stand your ground. Stand up for your white, 'working class origins'.
  6. turfonline.co.uk cheers - i'm laying it Tuesday, so a couple of days to prep the ground.
  7. BS overload.
  8. I just hate those people that clog up the bus stops, preventing me being always first on the bus - really gets my back up. And the people who are larger than skinny people who take up more than their fair share of pavement, it's just not fair. Also, the people with more than one child who clog up the schools and make the planet weigh too much, that really gets my goat.
  9. the ground had turf previously but a couple of years left to become a jungle has trashed it, it's well-drained soil so i intend to turn it over, level it and lay some basic green stuff - not fake grass tho !
  10. Thinking of laying some turf in back garden seeing as its not too hot and plenty moist. Anyone know if this will work ok this time of year ? Also where around here can I get turf ? Or can anyone recommend a turf delivery service ? Thanks, KK
  11. I too thought (don't know why) Passport To Pimlico. Also Kotaanisqatsi would be fun on a big screen locally. I guess the guys running the venue will have their own ideas and may run to a formula they already use.
  12. I think it's all relative, in your priority of what's important at the time. I mean, no-one complained about the noise of aircraft engines during the Blitz. Which proves that the people bothered by aircraft noise would likely be distracted by any feint noises.
  13. Khan now has to pull his socks up and work his way to contention for either a belt or a Mayweather fight. I think he'd have had more chance beating Devon than the new champ Shawn Porter. If Khan faces contender Keith Thurman he'll be asleep by R6. Khan's now in a hot WW division with powerful punchers and gifted as he is, I'm not sure what the path is to a belt for him now. The Diaz fight highlighted perfectly the dangers he faces - and Diaz was a guy coming up from lightweight to face Khan. One obvious opponent for Mayweather is Timothy Bradley. He's by far the most qualified of the Welterweights. I'm not sure whether its the promotional barriers, money (Bradley doesn't have a huge following) or too risky. If Pacman beats Bradley in a few weeks, that will make him a clear opponent for Floyd, maybe in Sept. If not then surely Bradley or FM cannot claim superiority.
  14. "facile point KK dogs people see ? " No. I was responding to Otta's comment.
  15. So Mayweather has chosen Maidana (who recently beat Broner very well) over Khan for May 3. Even though Khan won the poll he is out in the cold after waiting almost a year to fight FM, including turning down Devon Alexander. Fool.
  16. So you'll be going along to the tree unveiling is in SE15, but not if it's in SE22 ?
  17. I think the way around that is to unroll th outer sheet of the pair and they'll be lined-up again.
  18. LD if you seriously want quality cocktails I'd recommend the bars of decent large hotels such as The Mandarin, Park Lane, Hilton Park Lane, Claridges, Mayfair Hotel bar (where I trained as cocktail barman). They are properly trained and IMO are the only consistent genre of bars that deliver the best in mixed drinks.
  19. Even if you can do the four 17yr olds, they'll know where you live and you could get loads of hassle which will escalate the situation. One of the lads in the group I spoke to mumbled something about finding out where I live, but I spoke to him separately when I bumped into him a couple of days later.

Louisa I may have been slightly robust in my replies previously, but when I hear the old "it was better before that lot moved-in around these here parts" junk, my eyes roll-back and I mutter here we are again same story of resentment against immigrants. If that's not what you mean then all power to you, but you did a good job of sounding like that's your angle, without actually meaning that. All my aunties / uncles / cousins on my mums side are Pakistani and I've heard the same comments from their 'non racist' locals who don't realise it's my extended family / kind they're commenting on. It's tiresome and provocative and I'm used to challenging it.
  21. This happened a few years ago on the Whateley, CP Road, Silvester Rd block. First I approached them as a group and asked them to not race on residential roads, I also mentioned the noise. I got a gobful off them, as predicted by the poster above. Couple of days later I was driving down Silvester and saw one of the ringleaders parking his moped in the front yard. Pulled-up and knocked on the door, the Father answered and I explained what'd been going on. Father seemed apologetic, then the lad, who was already in the house by now, saw me and came running to the front door saying how he was gonna knock me out. I said I don't fight children and the Father told his lad to STFU cos if I come round again he'll get battered. Was a lot better after that. It did seem though that the Father was more upset about a stranger calling round his house than the actual nuisance I'd reported to him !

JohnL - what I was doing is outlining my perception of what is happening on this thread - a bunch of stand-still posters who want to ignore the day-to-day use of a high street by it's established community but at same time 'improve' it according to their vague and inconsistent grudges. The loaded comments about smells and the look of food and inferences to H&S breaches are just a "we are better than 'them' " monologue. Or are you really seriously saying that because you smelt fish as a child in Swansea and didn't like it, Rye Lane should change how it displays it's fish ?!?! I'm hearing redneck comments on this thread and I'm calling it that. Foxy is that straight-up and honest enough for ya ?

Fox, I don't recall any insults aimed at you on this thread.
