in fact they'd make a nice couple (sorry if you're both otherwise attached).

Yes Sue, just negotiating a night with them for a show end of year. I love the Phoenix Nights/vintage touch. Lenny Beige would surely love it (and has probably been there !).

Got back from Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, yesterday. What Townley said re temperatures, if you want sun and no clouds, it's there right now. 3.5hr flight with EasyJet. Stayed at Dunas (link below) in my first ever resort - did what it said on the tin with lovely staff and I now finally believe the 'myth' about Germans getting-up at dawn to claim sunbeds with their towels before going to breakfast. http://www.hotelesdunas.com/en/hotel-dunas-suites-villas-resort/

Can't find owt closer than Kensington/Pimlico.

yes, well said. I was considering moving a few years ago because there was just nothing, now we have venues and (i.e.) the folk club, all showing good stuff. I was in the GE on Wed for a beer and some dude was knocking-out barroom piano, was great sound. I get impression GE definitely likes their music to be 'background', also was there last Friday and a couple of guys were spinning some excellent soul and funk vinyl.

Aaaah, the Camberwell Cauldron... A geological mystery !

Don't think so Mic Mack, it's one rule for them and a separate rule for the honest guy trying to defend what's his !

Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible
KidKruger replied to Grotty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
"Can anyone advise what's specifically different about a buy-to-let mortgage, and whether they actually need to know? And also, am I right in thinking we would be taxed on the rental income? " BTL is a specific vehicle to service those renting out properties by intention, predicatably the banks set it up so they can make more profit off you than a usual mortgage rate in my experience. The increased deposit gives them additional assurance, too. Tax - you'll be taxed on the profit which = Rental Income - (interest proportion of mortgage repayments + agency fees + repairs and materials and labour + building insurance + legal or other costs related to the letting activity). There is a rule that you cannot claim improvements against tax, only repairs/maintenance. ie. if you upgrade to double glazing or change from lino to carpets while the property is let it's not necessarily a claim you can make against the let. IMO. ETA: if you get a straight mortgage and let out the property without telling the lender you risk having the mortgage withdrawn, insurance pay-out issues (if you haven't told the insurer), worst case also prosecution. IMO -
or you could pour it into plastic bottles and leave it in groups of bottles at select locations in the back streets of East Dulwich. Hold on...

Help Neighbours building something
KidKruger replied to Domme_Jay's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
well it just HAD to be massive, didn't it !? -
An insider I know at Channel 4 says their competitor programme "look at the paint - it's drying", a 10-episode special, covering emulsion, matt, gloss and even undercoats/primers (but sadly no varnish - yet), starts very soon.

Does not getting out of the car really qualify you to park wherever you want ? Could be obvious advantages there that I never knew about, espcially when in the West End.

Help Neighbours building something
KidKruger replied to Domme_Jay's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think if you're served a party wall notice to sign the neighbour is obliged to pay your (reasonable) surveyor costs - this is someone you can appoint independently to act in your interests in respect of the proposed party wall / build. One thing that may be worth enquiring on is sound proofing to address excessive noise - may as well cover what you can during this exercise to improve (minimise detrioration of) your quality of life. -
If the weights are appropriate we could pitch the Kameda bros against Liverpool's 3x Smith brothers (when they've a bit more experience), that'd cover most of a card ! BTW Another contest on 2nd November to watch might be Magomed Abdusalamov who is fighting another unbeaten HW: Magomed Abdusalamov (18-0, 18) v Mike Perez (19-0,12). Can you believe Magomed has only boxed 31 rounds in total !! He's a fave of mine - no messing, hunt and eliminate, which will probably be his undoing one day, though he's WBC #4, WBA #10. Perez Has beaten Travis Walker who's a big dude. Good year so far. Froch and Groves will be a cracker too.

Good call DC. I didn't see the contest but it was obviously covered in the UK boxing sites. On BoxNation's Buncey hour they interviewed 'Carla' to discuss the win. Barry McG has been singing Frampton's praises now for a couple of years so it's good to see the results coming through. Having seen the post-fight antics of Barry McG, you'd be forgiven for thinking that he had won the contest, not Frampton ! Who's the Yamanaka guy, a belt holder that Carl could face ?

On the most exotic of all desert islands.

Well that would have been something ! Probably somewhere it's happened before, either in an obscure division or far back in time when it was just easier to pull it off, if you had amateur / prize-fighting pedigree. Earlier this year Timothy Bradley (WW) had a proper contest against Ruslan Provodnikov who'd come-up from LWW to challenge for Bradley's title. It was a definite FOTY candidate. My appreciation for TB has multiplied hugely, he got the win but was battered and wobbled a few times, showing heart I'd not know he had even part of. Last weekend Provodnikov had his 2nd chance at a title (but at LWW) against Mike Alvarado and this time he won, after retiring his man in R10. Apparently another FOTY candidate, but darn it I cannot find it to watch on youtube or anywhere. This Provodnikov is pretty good and hopefuly he now can pair-off against guys like Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthyse, Adrien Broner, Devon Alexander and Khan. He does take a bit of punishment so may not be around for ever, but he just keeps-on coming, cuts you off and administers the pain. When interviewed after the contest with Alvarado, he was asked "do you realise you're now regarded as the baddest man in the world at your weight ?" He said, "It's funny that I'm feared, really I'm a very kind person". Certainly one to watch the next couple of years, especially now he's a title-holder. As an aside, it's weird how Alvarado beat Brandon Rios, yet Pacquiao chose Rios as his next opponent.

top marks to the cycle hero that's a good show. if the police were called and i was him i'd be very worried about the police doing the obvious easy win and (if the culprit is found) charging me for assault.

Parking controls in the Dulwich park?
KidKruger replied to achaikos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes I remember that - but I think it is better how it is now. Sometimes there's still a car that comes past occasionally, not convinced it's for disabled etc. either. -

KidKruger replied to achaikos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They could just double/treble the size of the car park. It's just grassy areas / football fields at that end anyway. -
In fact, they did say something about visits being new - because of "some El Pibe bloke"..
