well put it this way, there ain't so much theft and vandalism in Dubai. Not because there's nothing to nick or vandalise, but because there's a deterrent. NO (before obvious comments ensue, yawn) I am not 'saying we should be exactly like Dubai'. YES I am recognising we have a weak attitude towards this kind of crime where the honest taxpaying hardworking chap gets dicked-over and the criminal gets SFA punishment. Do you mind me asking who you are looking at build something ? If you mean me, I have used an architect for other things and was asking him in a general conversation, he hears it a lot and it was basically a binary outcome between very expensive and 'built' v wooden (temporary). Unless you;re going to live in it or use it as an annexe (my conclusion was) a timber shed was sufficient. you can insulate it etc if really needed. Bottom-line for me was, if I make dough through projects based in the 'shed' then fine I'll be able to affford to upgrade, otherwise it ain't justified.

3cows: I've been getting into this recently and after talking to my arctictect-type chap, am going for a shed/summer house affair, which I'll run water and power to from the house and create a drain outlet. I'll insulate it and have some basic heating. was gonna go brick-built etc but there's just no point given the costs and hassle. Horses for courses tho.

it's gonna be a weird set-up whatever they do, because if the inner door (onto bridge) is open then it's only for station customers with a ticket, if they open the outer door then it's for anyone but travellers will have to run round the side of the premises to get the barriers to then get on their train. You can't open both doors because people will just stroll through to the trains unchecked.

Well it's a bit like the shit-on-the-floor-in-the-mens-loos thread. But the focus strays to why it may have been done, the state the person was in, etc etc. It is NOT acceptable. A village I stayed in for a few months in India, this kid would have been beaten within an inch of his life by locals, then his parents would have had a (as they call it) "sound thrashing", then the police would have been advised of the crime and money would come very quickly back to the car owners until they were happy. Obviously I don't advocate this extreme response, but the focus of attention I wholly am aligned to. And guess what ? There ain't no cars keyed in Thul, UP. (to be fair, there's probably only like 4 cars, but hopefully you get my point..)

Kids like this get away with scratching cars up because our society is too paralysed to do anything about it. It's fucked-up that there will be no charges, no punishment, no learning, no deterrent, no relief for the people whose property has been damaged. No excuse for the action yet we'll run around in circles concentrating on the person who does fuck all, yet destroys what others have worked for. Seriously, you couldn't invent this shit.

I've had a few down patches of a week or so and failed turn-ups from engineers, so can handle the odd day. But overall what I get/use per month against cost, for me, is not reasonable value - so it's laters for Virgin.

I'm imminently ditching Virgin, just agreeing terms with my neighbour.

I think I saw on here that the coffee huys would be retained and when I asked them a mont or two before the major works the guys themselves said the same, but....
