  1. where it's shared flats / shared front door, perhaps the hope is that the door will have to be left on the latch or accessible some other way, leaving opportunities for gaining entry by non-residents.
  2. PR I may well be wrong but I just don't see how you fit 1/3 million corpses in that small space - the maths don't work for me.
  3. I've also used same method as worldwiser in the past. It's only madness if you suspect you're going to get ripped-off by the seller or you know there's a chance you won't be able to actually complete the purchase (in which case, take a 'normal' house purchase transaction where you're at liberty to dick as many sellers around as you like with no certainty for yourself either). People complain about the way it's done in UK, but then are unable to recognise practical measures designed to overcome the problem areas. Sellers are not counsellors, come to the table with the dough and in return you get first option on some land/a house. For me, if someone's that keen and has their shop in order to purchase they'll put the dough down. It's an option, not an obligation, for that particular property.
  4. given the above explanation for why this is done to prople's locks, kishlight - was your place being burgled when you came home to find the lock full of glue ?
  5. That's 7.5 people a day, every day, since 1856. Given that the highest frequency of deaths would have been earlier in the period since this cemetary opened in 1854, the numbers would have to have been far higher, perhaps into the 20's per day. That might be what Wiki/council website says, but I'm not convinced the total is as high as that. Fair enough for quoting the site though, it's the obvious source to use.
  6. 1/3 million people buried in Camberwell Old Cemetary ?! 300,000 corpses ?
  7. Great for wet socks too..
  8. Well said PR - I saw him there in 84 and 85 I believe. His early stuff was obviously the bollox, but he's had many gems since..
  9. Thanks Red. That first link looks like King Rocker.
  10. What programme/channel was that ?! Would like to try see belatedly on catch-up if poss.
  11. Walking up Whateley Rd early evening there was such a colossal dog poo, I thought a couple of huge dogs must have shat in exactly the same spot. This wasn't mini-dog poo, so you'd think some dork was walking a mega-dog, in which case how could that person fail to notice it laying a cable the size of Texas. Astounding selfishness.
  12. Out of interest ClareC, what will you be doing with your old (30s) Aga ?
  13. I think you can also get regular Aga/Rayburn 'extensions' to the traditional stove, so when not firing-up the big boy you can revert to a more practical / economical stove.
  14. The thing about these ex-council maintenance charges is that if every single owner of each individual flat separately obtained quotes for the work from different building firms they would rarely receive such exorbitant estimates per flat. But the council, who are grouping all this work under one contract/charge, cannot even obtain reasonable costs for the works. It's blatant fraud.
  15. What's your 3x fave fights of 2013 ? Mine's: 1. Guillermo Jones v Denis Lebedev 2. Timothy Bradley v Ruslan Provodnikov 3. Mike Perez v Magomed Abdusalamov (plus possibly Carl Froch v George Groves) I think 2013 will be a tough one to beat in terms of decent match-ups. The Bob Arum v Mayweather/Showtime split effectively deletes many potential decent fights, real shame. Plus the alphabet belts means the odds are against us seeing WBA MW Gennady Golovkin properly matched (the other 'champs' are all scared).
  16. Sue I think it contravenes the contract you have with your bank if you share the passwords for your accounts' access.
  17. I have a Rayburn in my country place, it was installed in 1973 and still works fine - just had to replace pilot fitting a few years ago. I cooked apple pies in it before Xmas as we like to use it a bit when it's on during winter months. It has a back boiler which runs hot water up to a tank in the loft (I fitted the indirect system myself) and also heats the water for the radiators which an electric pump pushes around the house. There is no radiator in the very big kitchen because the Rayburn provides the heat aplenty. Great for standing washed laundry in a rack next to it. For cooking on the hot plates it takes a bit of getting used to. It does have separate settings for the boiler / cooker and a temperature gauge, but adjustments take a while to take effect (it cools down far slower than it heats up). In summer I use an immersion heater to heat the same hot water tank in the loft and the rayburn just runs on it's pilot. As mentioned already, if you cook on it during summer you'll be in a proper sweat, so I have a regular gas stove / oven too and this is where most cooking actually happens any time of year. You don't buy them to save money or to make life quick and convenient. I think there are good deals getting 2nd hand stoves (i.e. ebay) because they're such a pain to collect/transport/install. For me, they're ace.
  18. Wasn't this the one where the armed man was under seige at the top of a house on Barry Rd and shot himself through the head and died ? If so, although the policemen may have been brave during the siege, there was no arrest.
  19. Strip the branches off your tree and stick them in the brown bin, then slot in the cut trunk in sections, won't even fill the bin.
  20. I started a thread a while back on paranormal stuff or something like that - there were some interesting stories. To answer your question tho, nothing experienced in ED but the house I grew up in was occupied and there was loads of weird shit that went down. Thing is, unless you've seen it / were there, its awkward explaining it because people are quite rightly dubious and if you haven't got a stake in trying to convince anyone (who cares what people who weren't there think) it's just a whole load of effort for nowt.
  21. Glad someone else shed one at end of Toy Story 3.
  22. Merry Christmas Sue and everyone xxx
  23. There's so much in some of these shops that I haven't a clue what it is nod have the balls to ask, again and again.
  24. It's for back scrubbing and body scrubbing. I've just heard that's what 'exfoliate' means - so pipsky had it earlier I now realise ! Well done. It had me wondering for ages.
  25. Alex - I did ask. So I was seeing who knows what it really is. Not a mozzie net, too large a mesh and too small a piece.
