I remember a good night being possible (and being most definitely had) at CPT pretty much any night of the week, I've posted before about the characters in there between say 1990-1998, Dave's butchers, bric -a-brac guy along from where PlantNation is(was), I loved ED then and still do now. It's changed, some things better / some worse. I think recognition of / acceptance of / dissapointment in changes is down to who you are what you like and your age/aspirations - it's different for everyone. There's always a buzz for someone, and the nature of that buzz changes. Some changes I notice: people more up their own arses about living here than 20 years ago, more shops selling crap (maybe I liked crap, then but don't now), finally got butchers and grocers back after the high st was trashed by sainsbury's, market's bigger, harder to park, generally speaking - people a little less friendly on the street, I'm tempted to say a bit more snobbery but that's just my take on the changing demo, weird thing in kids' playgrounds - parents totally segregate their behaviours with their kids from other parents/kids ie. kid falls over crying when parent is not nearby while other parents look at ground / look into their kids eyes and look busy / ignore crying kid - that didn't used to happen so much from my observation, neighbours less and less working class, pub pool tables gone, charming old lady Lily I used to see shopping on Lane has vanished, loads more options for music/arts, many more things but I ain't got all day. Beats Bow where I moved from, so thankful for that.

BTW - I read on one of th eboxing sites yesterday that Groves has split from Adam Booth, I didn't get into the detail tho.

Foxy, you're right it's not Cirque du Soleil - how did you work that out ? nice one. It's a regular, annual, age-old circus, for a few quid you get to sit in a big tent and see clever people do clever stuff. If you don't think it's worth it don't go, but impression son value for money are personal and subjective innit. Your post just sounds like a moan (could this be true ?!).

Otta I may try and squeeze a night in before Xmas, so will keep you posted in case Zonderlings wanna play. (I know about the 'g', just didn't check my spelling - apols).
-
New thread (focussing on, er, Local Gigs / Bands). where are all the local gigs ? are there any half decent local bands ? any venues even ? etc. ie. When are Zonderlins playing next ?

It's premature for Groves, though a great opportunity for him - win and he's jumped to a world title (though not world level, IMO), lose and he's only lost to 2nd best SMW in the world which is no shame so early in his career. Either way he makes more than ever before by many multiples. It's about the cash for them both. I remember Froch mentioning his let properties and doing his tiling, what he's basically saying is he's trying to keep his head screwed-on, invest what he earns for later when he stops fighting and to care for his family/kids, but that he's not letting stuff get to his head by doing some handy work on the premises when needed. I bet a ?5er he don;t tile his houses now !

FJD - so it's not just about excessive ear wax ? Oops, off topic.
-
"..maybe you have both fingers stuck in your ears.." if that's alluding to the folkie finger-in-ear habit, that's quite funny actually. BUT... 'nul points' you lot for straying, again !
-
don't get me started TED.
-
Well, Froch IS a warrior - proven it time and time again. I genuinely can only think of only 3-4 internationally known boxers that could claim that (I mean those who've consistently travelled). Thing is, boxers aren't usually academics with amazing public speaking powers (having said that, does Cleverly the maths graduate, speak any more eloquently than Froch, really ?). But yes, if you can't talk much sense in front of TV cameras, then STFU. Jeremy - looks like Froch has 'updated his status' to "massive international superstar". So perhaps I'm wrong, and he's NOT a warrior (any more).
-
Froch can be a nob you're right but I agree that Groves couldn't have sold out the stadium in 11mins, no matter who he was fighting. International superstar is stoopid tho !

Shame me now too.... door stop in for sale section.

"Thanks, Kid Kruger...but Norman is a ringmaster, not a ringleader! And he's been one for 47 years, hence his Guinness title." yeah well you get the idea bright spark.
-
...which brings us nicely back to local bands, places to see bands and comments about half-decent bands.

I went to Zippo's last year, first time since being a kid I've been to a circus. There were some cringy bits but overall it was good fun and a bit of a laugh. Less telly more circus IMO. the guys in motorbikes in those huge steel spheres were amazing, the spoof film production by the clowns using mugs from the audience was funny, the ring leader who's been doing it for like 45 years was brilliant. loads of skills that require more than a quick thumb and an x-box. having been last year I'll try and go every year. I can see in a few years everyone pining for the days when there used to be circuses on the green every year and where are they now etc.

free cash machine ?! excellent - be there all day !! -
Kid Galahad is now 3rd best UK Bantamweight, after Scott Quigg (who retired Rendall Munroe, the binman) and Carl Frampton (trained by Barry McGuigan). Scott v Carl is an overdue fight - THAT will be barnstormer, trouble is they both have aspirations at world level so may not face each other just yet as they follow their own paths to the top.
-
unlurked - at Kid Galahad's level I think it's skill. No room for luck, you have to make your own. He's from the Ingle gym in Sheffield, where Prince Naseem came from, so big emphasis on not being hit. If you like his style, check-out Kell Brook he's got a fight coming up soon against the chap that beat Ricky Hatton a few months ago (and ended his career, for good). Kell's a talent.

Oh yeah, the 'trash on wheels' table is a funny ad ! Almost as funny as the praise it garnered. Inspired me to 'up cycle' some old bricks in my yard, which are now quirky original Victorian hand-made masonry door stops. ?45 each, or, broken in half, ?60 a pair. Fair play though, after all - don't ask don't get.

I haven't been following this in the news - what's the benefit supposed to be ? When I was staying in india, up in rural UP 15 years ago, the local villages totally banned plastic bags - but that was for coherent reasons, the bags blocked natural flow of water in streams and drains and had choked livestock including cows which are sacred and obviously a source of milk. Now in UK it's 'to be green' ?
-
Mayweather's the boss though. HOW did one judge score that a draw ?! (Same judge that scored Bradley as beating Pacquiao)
-
Wow ! Never seen Mayweather looking so grim / subdued walking from changing room to the ring.

good KO by Kid. Shame about McPhilbin against Hughie.
