I suppose I was thinking of a joined up community view, to present Royal mail with. But having thought about it, Royal mail must be fully aware about which exact streets/areas are the worst affected. I guess I was of the impression that if Royal mail know that we know it may exert a little more pressure. Yeah we?re on Crystal Palace Rd, don?t remember a specific shelf unit (but plenty stuff goes in/out of here !!). intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > My impression was that outgoing mail was > unaffected ,that the problem was with delivery > .But Pugwash's post suggests otherwise . > > Kid -how would it help knowing which roads are > affected ? TheCat Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There does need to be some cooler heads indeed Keano. My thinking is that at a time when we have possibly 10?s of million of pseudo-Trumps in America, many of which seem happy to see the tearing down of democratic structures, injury or death to legally voted political leaders, and attempts at stopping/overturning validated election results, there is a major problem over there. When Trump goes, these people won?t. They were there before but now they have been legitimised by Trump. They have been energised by their antics at the Capital. They threaten death and injury publicly to people who have committed no crime, just because they have been told to. So, dumbing this down as if it was just some kind of frat party which got out of hand, would be a grave mistake IMO. Whether any items were sold or not on eBay, sort of misses the point. To prove that a lecturn did not get sold on eBay, would prove nothing useful, because the main story is above. Is there really anything cool-headed about being an apologist for the people and their behaviours in the events at the Capitol last week?

So how does this make ?Nancy Pelosi just as guilty as Trump for what happened on Capitol Hill? ? If Pelosi used words like that after the event how is she guilty ? I don?t have a dog in this race, I?m just trying to make sense of your post. You just posted that for a laugh, right? If not, please elaborate/retract. keano77 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I?m just making a general point and as you say > identify and prosecute and let the juries decide > on the facts. > > There?s a lot of hysteria in the media, US media > in particular, fanned by Miss Pelosi with words > like coup, sedition and insurrection flying around > like confetti. > > Time for cool heads to prevail.

Do you know what? This has to be regional (within ED) because we, and I believe our neighbours, have had a pretty much normal Royal mail service over the last few months. I wonder if we can work out which areas are experiencing significant delays in the mail (although that wouldn?t explain delayed in outgoing mail) ? what to do if a shop is not taking covid seriously
KidKruger replied to fulfordf's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A slight distraction/diversion, but Covid/mask related. We just heard of a woman friend of my wife?s living in Switzerland whose family decided to get together for Xmas in her home in Z?rich despite restrictions, some of the family flew in from Sweden. All have been ill apart from a 20yr old. The friend?s brother, 43, has apparently lost 50% of his lung capacity and is still in hospital along with the 83yr old Mother. The friend?s husband is in perpetual fatigue. Be sensible guys, including wearing masks ! -
demolished building in pellat and silvester road

Yeah. There?s a thread on it here somewhere, if you do a search. I think the front facade of the original sorting office was listed. -
Yeah I guess so, identify the culprits, get them on the hook, then do the extra person-specific investigations. Fair approach. That thing with Parler should help - though I dunno if US Govt can use hacked information. Shame if they can't cos that seemed to nail a LOT of people !

This is Freaky ! " Some among America's military allies believe Trump deliberately attempted a coup and may have had help from federal law-enforcement officials - Multiple European security officials told Insider that President Donald Trump appeared to have tacit support among US federal agencies responsible for securing the Capitol complex in Wednesday's coup attempt. - Insider is reporting this information because it illustrates the serious repercussions of Wednesday's events: Even if they are mistaken, some among America's international military allies are now willing to give credence to the idea that Trump deliberately tried to violently overturn an election and had help from some federal law-enforcement agents. - "We train alongside the US federal law enforcement to handle these very matters, and it's obvious that large parts of any successful plan were just ignored," one source told us. Keano - so what's with the proposition below, didn't see a reply from you before ? Are you saying that is the case or were you just posting it for a laugh ? I am not sure how to validate your claim. keano77 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Fair point KK. > > How about > > Nancy Pelosi is just as guilty as Trump for what > happened on Capitol Hill > > Discuss

not sure what you're referring to Keano - but if you mean the comments about "let's hope there's charges", etc. it's simply a case of identify & find the people who broke in / vandalised / trespassed / committed insurrection etc., charge them accordingly, and prosecute. Isn't that how the US legal system works ?! Not sure what you are saying, did somebody say innocent people should be prosecuted too, or did you think someone wants all people prosecuted whether they were at the Capitol or not ? I don't understand.

But really, we shouldn't be having to enforce an obscure pre-Victorian bye-law to get people to wear masks !! ianr Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > FYI - "Oops, this page doesn't exist" > > https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/borough-marke > t-forces-shoppers-to-wear-masks-outside-under-obsc > ure-1829-law/

wow did he actually get the podium out of the building ?! what an arse ! And Ebay, so soon after - doh ! Yes I hope there are more serious charges, examples need to be made, inauguration in a week or so.

unfortunately our own comforts responsibility to wear a mask inside shops. TBH the 'exceptions' I'm hearing about are pretty pathetic, really. -
It's inevitable, always was. Shareholders want their profits, so asset strip the organisation to within an inch of it's life if you can't make the operation pay. jellybeans - that was my belief up until reading this thread. From the few studies I did years ago, if you look from afar at the shape of a tree, you can mirror the image underground for a sense of how far the roots will spread (the root shoots may not be as thick). Which is why, although trees are nice to have around, planting them 10feet away from a house always seemed senseless if it's going to be allowed to grow past a couple of metres (and why I questioned earlier the site of tree root mass in relation to height of a tree).

but if it closed for another reason, you wouldn't miss the market ? thing is, its' great tracing all the rioters, but unless they get heavy sentences it's just a pretence. From what I've seen they've re being charged with trespass and other related things, as opposed to sedition (10yrs max), or conspiracy (20yrs max). These last two should be the charges, with max sentences for all - after all what's worst example of being unauthorised on Govt property ? Breaking into the Capitol, surely.

don't get me wrong Sue, I'm all for trees in the street, but not at cost of house damage. If there are better varieties being selected (which I assume means less invasive root structures) that's great news, but the obvious question is how tall can these type of trees grow before becoming a liability, cos smaller root ball = less stable tree the taller it gets. what to do if a shop is not taking covid seriously

I think it's limited what you can do without potentially being attacked. People respond horribly aggressively in some cases. On the train I've been told to F.O. and I posted on another thread recently that I was threatened the other night by a guy in a store I asked to put a mask on. Shopkeepers are in the same position I suppose, difference is if they have an argument with a. customer about it, the customer knows where they are and can put a brick in their window (this is what shopkeepers must have to keep in mind). It's very very frustrating if you're just trying to 'be safe' !! -
yeah my next door neighbours had a tree upending the pavement and making their wall lean badly, council said nothing to do with tree even though entire block had no problems elsewhere. they couldn't afford for a survey demanded by southwark to make a claim. But when the lawyer moved in he had council in-hand in just a few weeks, tree down, pavement fixed, wall rebuilt (there WERE tree roots under the wall and heading under his house).

I'm sort of in the same process, I've bought 4 acres with a 3-bed detached bungalow (I prefer houses but..), garage, several car parking, and 11x dishevelled corrugated outhouses (big enough for small tractors, livestock, feed, but all requiring replacement one-by-one) for ?250k + 40k renovation (running gas to property, installing central heating for first time, re-wire, new/first double-glazing, new ceilings, replaster throughout, new flooring and carpets, new basic bathroom and kitchen, the works). 2miles from nearest beach. Probably head-off in summer. Ventnor outskirts. ETA (in respect of OP): I'd like to maintain some elements of the 'ED vibe' when I go, but each place is different to some extent and you're never gonna recreate/will have to compromise. My (our) needs are changing, so more space, cleaner air, a field for the dogs, I can build a studio and a workshop and we can grow some of our own food, is part of the vibe we're after now ! Wow !! I guess the protesters will claim "someone took my phone, but I found it once they returned to my hometown from the Capitol with it...". Is a no fly list like a ban for individuals which is shared with the airport/aviation authorities ?

I do sometimes wonder if Trump has sold out to the Russians and/or the Chinese, he has hundreds of millions in debt and both of those places could afford to throw money at him if he promised to throw a spanner in the works of government in the USA, if he promised to cause instability, if he committed to creating civil and Governmental unrest. I?m not a conspiracy theorist, but with Trump I genuinely don?t believe there is any limits to what he will do if there is the slightest chance that he can benefit. The problem with Trump is that we are all proceeding on the basis that a president should look after his country and its people ? arguably a naive and institutionalised viewpoint when facing someone whose self-interest knows no bounds and whose respect for other people and institutions is less than zero. In fact it seems to be the basis for the way he operates, making the wildest decisions in the most negative way far in excess of anything seen before. It?s like he relies on the norms to inform him of which abuses are possible.
