  1. I imagine she's desperately hoping this thread will disappear. Bump.. oops-a-daisy!
  2. It's the application of the IHT law which is an arse, not the law itself. I mean, a tax is a tax.. the government has to get money somehow. Take IHT out of the equation and someone else would be making-up the difference somewhere else. How can the application of IHT be fair. Person X knows if he takes certain steps at a certain time, his heirs won't have to pay a bean. Person Y knows this as well, but dies unexpectedly before he can take those steps so it has to be paid. Person Z doesn't have a clue so the tax is paid - then his son finds-out in the pub a year later that he could have avoided it. It's ridiculous. What if everyone had to pay Income Tax.. except those who knew that if they congregated in the car park of Tesco at midnight on 5th April and did the hokey cokey - once a year - then they would be exempt from paying it 7 years from then. It's that stoopid.
  3. I did like TVGH. But surely the best bit of it was the one-off 'Holiday Special' http://www.tvgohome.com/0106-2001.html
  4. yeah man.. if it wasn't for those pesky residents pointing-out the bleeding obvious then Harris would have been able to just do whatever they wanted, regardless of planning law or consultation process. Well said.
  5. BB Fair enough.. it's a tax which penalises the less informed and those subject to unforseeable changes in family circumstances. Either way I think it's wrong.
  6. Maybe not the ideal subject for Friday 6pm on a warm(ish) summer evening.
  7. This would involve voting Conservative. I think not. As I'm sure most people are aware, there are simple, legal ways for the average over-the-threshold homeowner to avoid paying inheritance tax anyway. So essentially, at the moment (and unfortunately for many) what we have is a law which penalises the less well-informed.

Perhaps she was born 55 years old. Like Sid James. I'm trying to think of an adequate description, but it's hard to trump Alan's 'withered old cat collector'.

  10. I'm a gin drinker and so's my wife

  12. Oh massive YAWN. Must we do 'The Herne' thing again?
  13. Alas, I feel that Mothers and Fathers will be less likely to opt to have their offspring tutored by someone who considers them to be 'vomit inducing'. That's my feeling anyway. I could be wrong.
  14. Nice one, Margaret! As a music teacher seeking pupils, you've done a fine job of alienating approximately 90% of your potential target market. Well, they say that no publicity is bad publicity, so here's your original 'piano lesson' posting again. You sure sound like a wonderful person for children to learn with. I'll be in touch when *Bob* Junior is a little older! My name's Margaret, and I am an accomplished classically trained musician who holds the LRAM music teaching diploma. I have been teaching piano for many years, and I pride myself on making the piano fun and accessible to all my pupils. I encourage my students to have the confidence to play a wide variety of musical genres by ear - as well as teaching how to read music proficiently. My current pupils are aged between 5 - 90 (yes, it's never too late to learn!), and the majority of them achieve distinctions (i.e. the highest grades) in their Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Theory, Classical music and Jazz piano exams. Testimonials are available. I also teach pupils who don't want to take exams, but just want to learn how to play Blues, Latin, Jazz, Pop music - and more! I've maintained a private teaching studio since the 1970's, and all ages and skill levels are welcome. I teach 30 and 60 minute lessons, depending on your requirements. Prices range from ?18 - ?35, depending on the length of the lesson. I teach in Netherby Road SE23, which is just off Forest Hill Road SE22 opposite St. Francesca Cabrini Primary school.

  16. Tramadol. Tylex. Valium. Sorted.
  17. Smith.. you should have set your sights on Jerry Lee Lewis instead. You might have been in with a chance then.
  18. 99 Red Balloons. The original version (in German), please.
  19. I ought to have added: .. which is fine. It doesn't hurt anyone. It makes them feel better about themselves. It keeps someone gainfully employed. Job's a good 'un.
  20. The friends I have who are into alternative therapies are exactly the ones who I would expect to be into them. Some would say this is because they are open-minded.. others might be less kind. But I can vouch for the fact that they are hypochodriacs. Back pain, stress, RSI, insomnia, headaches.. their list of ailments reads like the window of a Chinese medicine 'clinic'. Interestingly, they're also the people who ought to be least troubled with these things, being financially comfortable, not working in a stressful environment (or working at all) etc. I think it's like a kind of self-perpetuating minor addiction for some of them, which feeds off itself.
  21. I think 21 is the answer. I mean - it seems to work well in the USA. Like the gun laws.
  22. HA HA HA I like it. A lot.
