Yeah, it's not like we buy Heat or Hello magazines Fru T. But is there any truth to the assertion that these are the most stolen periodicals in the SE22 area? Or was that David Mitchell just winding me up? -

This is Rush, the chap who offered to refund the cost of any telly bought in the build up to (I think) the world cup before last if England won. I'm sure there was a novelty 'and now for something light-hearted' style feature on the ITV news, or the BBC 'and now news from where you are' programme. Cut the man some slack, Jack. Geezer I'm saying. -

I reckon she got a bit lashed-up by the time she got to number one Nashoi, her other choices were: Uptown Girl - "By that Bonnie Tyler" People = Shit - "That Slipknot group show great enterprise, who's to say who is under those masks? It's a franchise waiting to happen. Well done Pigface, Clown and associates". Stand, Own Margaret - The Beat. "Just youngsters, but they had a complete grasp of my values of 'standing on your own two feet' and 'owning' your property. I was terribly flattered to be mentioned by name as their mentor". Addicted To Love - The Sonic Youth version. I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down - Elvis Costello "Dedicated to the Labour party. Yes Mr Ben Elton, I too can get a "little bit political", and satirical when the occasion demands". Eton Rifles - The Jam "Well I heartily approve of Eton, rifles are of course jolly good things and anyone who doesn't like jam isn't in my 'top ten' as Sir Jimmy Savlle would put it. Or should I say Sir 'Jammy' Saville? But seriously, all things considered this Eton Rifles by The Jam is probably one of the best sort of songs imaginable" Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself Again - Sly & The Family Stone "Frankly I haven't a clue what this is or who these people might be, doubt we'd see their sort around Grantham. But Bernard Ingham insisted that my selection wasn't quite ethnically diverse enough and made me choose this one. However, I am quite sure it is 'fab' enough in its own right and probably quite 'gear' also. I must say I was quite tempted to change at the last moment and plump for the Clash's White Man In The Hammersmith Palais, just for the mischief of it. But I couldn't, poor Bernard has been having such trouble with his eyebrows lately it didn't seem fair" "My book would be George Orwell's 1984, I never could resist a happy ending, and my luxury item would of course be an AK47 with a plentiful supply of ammunition. This is a deserted island and I intend to keep it that way, thank you very much.

LB (so close to LD!), just think of it as the first episode of the next series of Curb Your Enthusiasm. By episode ten all will be resolved. In some sort of fashion.

Look, I'm all for giving props to Rolf, so far as TLB and SA are concerned. I love The Ladies Of The Court Of King Caractacus, Jake The Peg and Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport. And if you can find a bigger fan of I Lost My Mummy, then...well actually you won't. But he wants a good c*nting-off for that Stairway To Heaven bollocks-fest. Disgrace to the wobble-board so it was.

I must say RosieH, I think that Two Little Boys is a good choice and the last verse will always make the listener lachrymose. It couldn't not. "Do you think I would leave you dying, when's there's room on my horse for two..." When that leads into the final triumphant chorus, it couldn't possibly fail to make 'water come a me eye' as the old song goes. But, what about the other fine Rolf performance 'Sun Arise', I used to hear it as a kid, probably on Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart's Junior Choice radio show and as a kid and now as an adult still find it highly affecting. Not in the same sentimental way as TLB, but in a more basic way. Even if you don't know what the song is about it's curiously affecting. As I got older I assumed it was an Australian-Aboriginal song done by Rolf, or maybe a tribute by him. I've never looked up what it was about exactly, I think it just stands as what it was when Rolf did it. I don't even have a copy of it, but it was one of the songs that I would sing under the covers in bed at night and convince myself I was note and voice perfect. I-Pods? I shat 'em. So, RosieH, how about Sun Arise, instead?

Every so often on Barry Road there are two to three very loud explosions which seem to come from, to my ears, the midddle of the road. It seems (only seems mind) to me that they may be some kind of floating down and then timed detonation style of thing. That's just my impression though, it's been happening for a few years now. I used to get alarmed and look out of the window, but now I start at the first report and await the others with equanimity. Christ, I'm fairly draped in ennui this evening, still, they can't touch you for it. -
