Security issue at Sainsburys Carpark - Mon 12 Sept
pebbles replied to pebbles's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
JohnL - you are indeed correct, I've just had a phonecall from the police who have said that there's a phone mast behind the football club and that it sometimes causes this problem. There's nothing they can do and the phone companies aren't going to take the mast down. My husband has just been down there and he was able to get in. Anyway, sorry for the panic but I will definitely be making sure that the car locks behind me when I'm there in future. Thanks again to octobersky who drove me and my family home :) -
I just wanted to flag up what has just happened At the Sainsburys on Dog Kennell Hill to make people careful. At about 5.45 i was trying to get back into my car after my shop and the remote control wasn't working. The car opposite's alarm was going off and the lady also couldn't get in. Then we realised that there were a lot of alarms going off around the carpark and I stopped a few people to get them to check that their remote control had actually locked their cars as they were walking into Sainsburys and indeed their cars were still open. I've spoken with Security their and they're going to have a presence in the carpark and I've also spoken with the police and they are going to send someone down there. Basically we think that someone has some kind of transmitter thingy to stop people from locking their car doors without realising it (and this is also stopping people from opening them). Annoyingly my car doesn't have a key so i couldn't get in that way. The lovely lady opposite me drove myself, 2 kids and shopping home otherwise I would have been stranded - and my children were losing the will to live at this point. I just wanted to give people the heads up that when they walk away from their cars and press the lock button to actually make sure that it is locked - I know I don't always check.

Anyone interested in music groups for 3 and 4 year olds?
pebbles replied to sparkle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Although I'm not able to attend I did just want to write and rave about Annas music classes. My daughter absolutely loved them - as did I. As she puts it - teaches music musically - can't recommend her high enough :) -
I was also dreading this with my 2 but we had to bite the bullet last xmas when they were 3 and 1. Chloe always goes to bed about 20 mins before Seb normally so we just did the same and Seb crept in. Even when C was still awake for some reason they didn't play up and just went to sleep. S wakes earlier than C so we bribed him with stickers to creep out so quietly in the morning that C didn't wake up and it worked :) Take a deep breath and do it :) We were forced to but I know I would be sitting here now if I wasn't made to!!

With our church wedding we only had to have one religious reading so perhaps you could check if you are able to do a non religious reading? My brother's reading was Guess How Much I Love You which is a chilren's book by Sam McBratney. Basically it's about a baby hare and mummy hare increasing how much they love each other with great actions like up to the top of my ears and back, up to the stars and back again - it was changed to be 2 adults hares but it's the one reading that really really stands out. My bros mate who read it really got into the mood and did all the actions - just fabulous and made everyone smile and the sentiments were perfect. I've got a copy if you would like to borrow it for the wedding?

pebbles replied to 2Loulou's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've flown my 2 to Caribbean. 2 1/4 and 3 months. DVD was a must for me Take a sling for 6m old so u can hold hand luggage etc if pram doesn't come off plane If u take the pull hand luggage to max size u can fit a scooter in and that was a life saver when toddler was shattered but I couldn't pick him up Lots and lots of snacks New toys Sit down at last possible moment It'll be worth it I promise. -

Advice please! Flying long distance with an 11-month-old
pebbles replied to radnrach's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I agree with board as late as possible Also when in your seats let him stand etc on ur laps (and play beekaboo with the people behind) and the space in front for as long as feasably allowed before putting him in the seat belt on your lap. They check on you quite early but they are normally quite understanding if you say that you will do the seat belt up at the last moment - and for the take off and landing when he will be tied down (effectively) take as many snacks as possible. Rusks work well as it takes then quite a while to eat. If he likes cars etc we used to take a few small cars and then when we were allowed to move he could crawl up and down the aisle with his cars or when this was a nightmare i'd take him to front by the stewardesses adn let him play in that larger area and watch what they were up to. You'll be surprised by how well he copes with just watching whats going on around him :) I agree with the take lots of clothes for both him and yourself. Sorry if TMI but mine have never done solid no.2's on flights so make sure you change as soon as he has gone !!!!! If he has a few fav toys, maybe hide them for the few weeks before you leave so that they're new and exciting when you're on the plan. If u r wanting him tor sleep on the flight pack everything that he is used to ie grobag, teddy etc - everything helps :) Good luck and I promise you every longhaul flight i've done with my 2 (and quite a few on my own) - i have never regretted it and it has always been better than i thought :) -
I'm not sure if i'm the friend you're talking about Pickle but I absolutely second the Just Williams ones. A bit more expensive than on net but really good quality and my son absolutely loves it :)

Talk to me about sewing machines etc
pebbles replied to edanna's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would also like to rave about Scarlet Peacock. I learnt from them and am now a reasonable sewer (have made teepee for kids, kids clothes, lots and lots of cushions etc). You can learn on their machines (to make sure you like it before you buy) or you can take your machine along. -
also thoughts for nursery cos obviously there are quite a few teachers in nursery i'm liking the handmade sweets idea

21st birthday present for Godaughter - Help!!
pebbles replied to sillywoman's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I know she's got jewellery but hows about taking her to Links or London or somewhere similar and get her to choose and have a glass of champers somewhere afterwards so it's a nice girlie trip and she gets something that she likes? -
Can anyone help? We've literally just had some raised beds made for us to plant vegetables and salad stuff. Are we too late to plant anything this season or is there anything you wise people can recommend that we can plant up now? Also where's the best place to get vegies? Thanks so much

Baby carseat versus toddler carseat for long trip
pebbles replied to jollybaby's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My God, that's just dreadful that UK aren't on top of it. I suppose all I thought at 9m old was yipeee they'll be facing forward and finally might be happy in the car and cos they were both right weight and age and i bought supposedly the safest forward facing chair i was happy. I think i might go and do some researching as daughter not even 2 yet. -
Baby carseat versus toddler carseat for long trip
pebbles replied to jollybaby's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Sorry to be ignorant but I had no idea that there was a rear facing option when my kids were moving out of their babyseat? Are rear facing toddler seats a new thing or did i just not do my research very well? -
Best Driving route to Cornwall? Any tips welcomed :)
pebbles replied to vanthorne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would do vauxhall bridge and then turn left to earls court and the left onto a4 which leads onto m4. We have tried both routes but now stick with m4/m5 as does seem to be quicker on the most part. It'll be well worth it - love Cornwall
