As the BBC says "We tend to associate the arrival of Christianity in Britain with the mission of Augustine in 597 AD. But in fact Christianity arrived long before then"

  4. Is it the chain that has 250 employees or the local pub (are they franchises or directly managed or something else) No way will they label beer - if anything I've noticed there are no price lists on the wall in lots of pubs - you just buy it and pay whatever the price is - so where will the calorie list go for my pint of Camden Hells.
  5. As the campaign for May local elections starts Boris seems obsessed with culture war stuff but he is distracted by a real war Starmer is not saying much at all - but maybe that will work Lib Dems definitely saying stuff (I saw Ed Davy on TV) but is anybody listening Sombody has leaked/manufactured this story about Sunak's wife which will not go down well as you can't help but wonder what his plans would be after leaving politics - so many ex-politicians leave this country.

  7. I watched Ian Hislop's analysis of fake news today and he stated it isn't what the argument is but who is telling you what to believe and why. If I don't know who is telling me something then I should really disregard it - and especially so if its something I want to believe.
  8. So as the 2019 General Election was said to prove that the majority in the UK support Brexit (Still Questionable) A win for Labour in Southwark would mean the LTN issue is done and dusted (all know it won't be)

    EDF

    Never have guessed.
  10. Well the guy did slap an egg on Prescott IRC - 15 years ago too so we have changed attitudes to violence.
  11. Can't see the Plough ever being really popular although I'd like it to be. Its a great space.
  12. I'm not sure the Queen checks out the EDF :) But then ?
  13. Seems peace might be about to break out. Strangely that comes after the most aggressive statements by the USA. Not saying they are linked but....
  14. They're wrong - and he has apologised for the violence. If you lose control at a certain trigger some people will press those buttons repeatedly for their own ends (and if Rock was doing that he should know better). On the other hand if you sit in the front rows of many comedy shows you have to expect some sort of personal abuse may come at you (body shape, baldness (usually male pattern), glasses, height)
  15. I thought this was a new bread shop :(
  16. With all the Russian interference that is going on I think we need some kind of vetting system for political activity in UK politics.
  17. Leaflets (just guessing not real) Tories "Get them out" Labour "Get them out" Lib Dems "Only the Lib Dems can beat Labour in Southwark"
  18. I once was being sick with bright luminous green stuff - straight to the front of the queue and in the operation room in under 3 hours. Seems that ambulance patients are triaged in the ambulance (I think)

Listened to Putin this morning. He just stood up for JK Rowling but he's just trying to divide the west - that's why I don't want division like this if he does. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/putin-jk-rowling-cancel-culture-b2043978.html He also said we bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki and then persuaded Japan that we didn't - that's a South Park 2009 plot called "Whale Whores".

But as scientists would say - that's not science (we all already agree) its engineering (just provide what is needed for all) - so why the huge arguments - who gains with these arguments.
  21. He's fiddling with NI - I guess he didn't want to back down on the increase so he's reduced the NI bill somewhere else - if you are an SME the employers NI increase still stands which is why he's given a little to SMEs in another way. This isn't really going to work as inflation is going to kill us. Many rents (or if you are shared ownership as many in London are partial rents) go up by RPI (described on Sky News this morning as an anachronism) - that could be 10% for next year. If you have savings and can't find a return to match inflation or partially live off the interest - your savings valie will fall.
  22. The RAC has said the 5p fuel tax reduction only takes prices back to where they were just over a week ago.

If you ever did competitive swimming there are definitely two types - those who are relaxed taking part (me - I slowed down at the end of most races) and those like my sister (win at whatever cost) - it's difficult to overstate how competitive those who in these galas are - and I never understood the need to win just to march to a podium to general bogey. Even on holiday we had to find swimming baths for my sis to practice Parents should beware of competitive swimming and I'd be quite happy to de-escalate the competitiveness :)
