Just checked an email from Tesco and if we are self isolating then bags will be used "Following the Government?s advice on preventing the spread of COVID-19, if you?re self-isolating, your driver won?t be able to come into your home. But to help make things easier, although we have a bagless policy, we?ll provide clean shopping bags which your driver will use to pack your shopping for you at your door."

In Ireland (where they have stricter rules at present) the rules are. Outdoor gatherings of more than 500 people are banned. Indoor gatherings of more than 100 are discouraged. Cafes and pubs can stay open but are advised to do so with caution. People are being asked to restrict their social interactions as much as possible. So I'd say they want pubs restrict the number of people in them.

it's now off I'm afraid. Scottish team and many fans were already in Cardiff - so they'll be out and about there.

No - not the clearest link sorry - but years since I was in Uni so no good with these things- maybe someone can provide something better :) I notice Wales versus Scotland is now off - 24 hours before being played with the Scottish already in Cardiff. Should have been called off earlier IMHO

The Lancet "191 patients (135 from Jinyintan Hospital and 56 from Wuhan Pulmonary Hospital) were included in this study, of whom 137 were discharged and 54 died in hospital. 91 (48%) patients had a comorbidity" so 58% didn't is how I read that ?? https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30566-3/fulltext my view this is as if we had never seen flu before then this year flu developed and we all got it for the first time. This could become like an additional flu after a few years similar but different to current flu.

In Italy anyone over a certain age is being left to die as there are not enough resources to treat them. And this isn't just flu it's worse even if you're young and fit if you're unlucky enough to get it into your lungs. "He also stressed the virus does not just affect old people, warning that younger people "end up intubated in intensive care" or "worse in ECMO (a machine for the worst cases, which extracts the blood, re-oxygenates it and returns it to the body, waiting for the organism, hopefully, heal your lungs)." https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-italian-doctor-says-fighting-covid-19-outbreak-is-like-war-11954229

I mean we expect that a vaccine will be developed in a few months (or maybe more) - but the government seem not to have incorporated this into their plan maybe as it's not a certainty.

Happy days. > Would be interestin to know which subtype of > influenza A virus was used in this years vaccine. I don't understand why they aren't holding out for a vaccine - it wasn't even mentioned. edit: maybe they feel they can't rely on that 100% so have created a plan without it as worst case.

60% of the UK population - Sky News got it off Sir Patrick Valance https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-millions-of-britons-will-need-to-contract-covid-19-for-herd-immunity-11956793 Also Valance thinks 5,000 - 10,000 people are infected already - as we have 10 fatalities and 60% of the population is 35m or so - a quick calculation can be made. There is a feeling some people are being sacrificed here - whether there is another option as Ireland's plans (and those of all the other countries with differing plans to the UK) could create a second wave apparently or be too strict to follow for the length of time needed (I'm no expert)

I saw this really scruffy man hanging around parliament and sometimes near Boris, he sometimes turns up early. He wears a skillet jacket and trousers hanging baggily around his legs. Everybody seems scared of him. He looks about 60 but someone said he's in his late 40s. He's scary and his demeanor is odd and I wonder what dodgy thing he has planned and how dangerous this man is.

I picked up that only hospital cases will be tested going forward - so we won't know the cases in the country at large. 60% is apparently required for herd immunity.

Boris and CMO speaking now Seems like many of us are going to get it - we need to slow it down to help the NHS. We need to protect the vulnerable. Some will die - Boris said many of us will lose a loved one. If you have a cough/temperature do not leave your home for a week (how this will be enforced I know not - probably not enforced).

Just been for a dental appointment - obviously they have up signs saying any symptoms then don't come in ring 111. I had to refill out one of the health forms (how many of these illnesses have you had, do you drink/smoke etc) - I have to say I made myself look as healthy as possible without lying just in case Cummings is making a list (I'm joking) :)

Italy "Older or sicker patients are being given inadequate care and left to die so doctors and nurses can focus on patients who are younger and more likely to survive. Patients who have a limited number of ?life years? left, even if they could survive, should be left to die, they have been told." https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/coronavirus-grim-advice-italian-doctors-21679627 I suppose this is always done to a lesser extent but I'm not sure a vulnerable person stands much chance at all over there once in the system. I always thought if you had a huge motivation to live this trumped age.

Realising you're the oldest in the office AND the pub doesn't help lol.

I would have thought the pressure would be on to extend the transition period due to extraordinary events rather than trade on WTO terms. Strangely it's the Express saying this - are Reach PLCs papers journalist sharing :) https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1253616/brexit-latest-news-coronavirus-budget-interest-rates

People who want to be tested have been saying in the UK they won't test you unless you have recently traveled to a high risk country. a shortage of testing resources ? The Chancellor was asked if he had been tested - he said no in line with guidelines - but he has been in meetings with those infected (the Health minister and possibly one more unnamed cabinet minister)

A guy in a white suit from the WHO just on Sky News just basically answered "don't know" to this and questions of herd immunity/virus mutation and a few other questions. The virus is too new. Obviously a lot of work going on. https://www.thelancet.com/coronavirus?dgcid=kr_pop-up_tlcoronavirus20 I also thought the incubation period was 5 days but I've been told it is now 3-14 days - maybe this is still "don't know".

Which tends to make young people who feel invincible anyway rather blase at first. Some groups will have a possibility of a severe infection at 10% and a hospital doctor was today saying those with a severe infection admitted to hospital need to be anesthetized, put on a ventilator and fed through tubes. This week (in contrast to the earlier interviews) Sky News interviewed two young men looking after their Grandmother in Italy - and they looked traumatized. One wouldn't even speak when prompted by Kay Burley.

The same sort of information as that above came out of China allegedly.

As the OP asked - This is now officially a Pandemic.

Carrie responded angrily on twitter to this mind - guilty conscience or fake news. Hope it feels safe.
