Nanny - are you serious? So because I have a baby (a wonderfully behaved one year old I might add) I am no longer allowed to socialise in a pub / cafe??? I went to a birthday lunch today with said child today at a pub and he didn't bother a soul and we left at 5.00 - so what exactly bothers you about that? Do you have children yourself? I wouldn't want to assume you are childless and lecturing parents on how they can socialise with their friends!! I agree children should not be in a pub in the evening as quite frankly they should be in bed but for me to be relegated to only socialising at friend's houses is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!

Can you try doing it a little earlier and see if that makes a difference? My son also loves his bath but if he decides he's a bit tired it's a screamathon! X

We parked at the nursery place today an it cost ?10 for 10-4.. I paid that for 4 hours yesterday In the streets surrounding kings yesterday(even though it turned out I only needed 30 mins but I gave the ticket to the guy who took my spot so I'm hoping I get some good karma for that, anyway rambling sorry!

Baby Strawbs - yet another illness.. Advice please
Strawbs replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi all.. We are back and no further forward *sigh*... A very stressful day with baby strawberry not coping well with blood tests and having to sleep on me instead of his cot (hates sleeping anywhere else other than home), the docs and nurses were very good (was nice to see you buggie!).. They confirmed he has not got a tear in his stomach but do not know what is causing it or why his vomit is brown regardless of what he eats.. We have to have the impendence test but were told again to wait for a date but that they are moving calendars around trying to find an urgent appt. A nutritionist from babu's office came to see us but didn't have much to input outside of keep doing what we are doing and possibly reduce his morning bottle. I totally recognise that everyone was working very hard for baby strawberry today but I am frustrated to the point of tears as there is no end in sight! Baby strawberry is in bed and I'm running a bath to try and soak myself to calm! Thank you everyone for your messages, it means a lot x -

Thanks hon.. Keeping positive as best I can.. Will let you know how I get on tomorrow x -
Forgot to mention my gp told me the aptamil pepti (I think that's whatnot is called) 38% of children with cmpa will also react to the formula.. X

My son has a cows milk protein allergy plus soya. He is very sensitive and if he has anything he shouldn't we have screaming, toilet issues and a skin reaction for the soya YET when he went to the allergist it didn't come up on his skin prick tests which led to the allergist recommending we try normal formula again and it was a total disaster. Pop to see your gp ASAP and see what their take is on it but fight your corner if your gut is telling you it's an allergy.. My gp was fantastic and prescribed neocate straight away.. If you have access to private health insurance make sure baby Ellie is on it and covered before you see your gp to make sure any treatment is covered as it took me 6 months to get a reflux / allergist and dietician appt.. X

Baby Strawbs - yet another illness.. Advice please

Update from me is this is still ongoing.. Under the care of babu who rushed through a barium test today for my mini strawberry which came back clear, his case was discussed today and the specialist spoke to my gp today and then called to tell me we can't wait any longer for any more appts so I have to take him to a&e tomorrow and have him admitted and get a barrage of tests done.. I am really praying we get some answers tomorrow as I am beyond stressed! X -
I found a website this morning and it said (obviously a particular school might be different) there are 11 days left to do your shoebox, Ive never heard it of before and think it is a great idea, so Im going to do mine this weekend

Breast feeding vs formula feeding
Strawbs replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
oimissus I could not agree with you more, it is a vile and insulting phrase, Im fairly sure the phrase 'formula feeding' would suffice. thank you for bringing that up. x -
As baby strawbs will ONLY feed himself our nursery agreed that if I sent dinner in they would pop him in a highchair at 5 and let him have his dinner and its working really well especially as they dont need to do anything outside of storing the meal in their fridge, heating it up and popping it on the highchair tray for him to eat himself. I collect him normally at 5.45 and he has a bottle with bed, there is no way I could fit in a dinner at 6 and then bottle bed at 6.30.. Maybe ask your nursery if they can do this for you?

I'll go on to the website and see if I can find a video

Here is my experience. Had baby strawbs at Tommies who were great, they had lactation consultant type people available everywhere who worked very hard with me to try and get baby strawbs to latch on. BUT reality was my milk didnt come in for 8 days in the end, I had gestational diabetes and as a consequence baby strawbs had to eat 4 times in the first 12 hours of his life so he could be tested so they had to give him formula, all the whilst I was trying to hand express colosturum(sp?), baby strawbs would latch on but I had nothing in there so we ended up in a situation where he was screaming for hours (and I mean about 6 hours before they relented) and I ended up demanding formula as they were very hesitant to give it to me because of the whole 'breast is best' mantra. They ended up relenting and giving me some. My advice is take your own if you feel that it might be something you want to do, it cant hurt to pack it and if you dont use it then just bring it home. Just go and buy a few small bottles and the ready to go cartons and go from there. I ended up only breastfeeding for 6 weeks as my gp took him off my breast (not literally haha) because he had such severe reflux and was choking and got put on a paste like formula which he ended up not being on after two weeks as then we discovered he had a dairy allergy! My biggest regret is that as soon as I got home from the hospital I didnt get a lactation consultant in to come and help me, the only way we could get baby strawbs to latch in the end was with a nipple shield, but my supply was so low (or his latch wasnt great) that he would sometimes feed for 3 hours and just scream his head off as he was hungry! I was too embarrassed and tired to head to a breastfeeding cafe either which in hindsight I really wish I had of. For the brief time I did breastfeed I thoroughly enjoyed it and for the next baby I will hopefully have I will get someone in to help me. Its a totally personal choice re boob or bottle and nothing anyone says should impact your choice so do what you feel is right for you and your baby at the time. Its very easy to judge other mothers and I dont think that is right.. I know when people asked me if I was breastfeeding baby strawbs and I said no I got some filthy looks but if they only knew the reality of what life was like for him and also the tears and guilt I had felt and shed over not being able to feed him they may have thought twice about making me feel even more rubbish than I did. another piece of advice dont overpack your hospital bag. I took everything under the sun and didnt use a thing. I was induced so in a hospital gown for two days, all I used during labour was chaptstick and a hairband! Pads are definitely important, they gave me a few but then I used my own. The two things I didnt take that I definitely felt I should have is my own pillow and some dark towels, I was given NHS standard issue white towels which were about the size of a handtowel and given how heavily you bleed after birth not sure why white is the standard colour to use! Take some dark towels of your own.. good luck xoxo

1. Not sure all capitals is required 2. To say you are frightened of us is a bit silly 3. As We are the people actually potentially forking out the cash to go to such an event we are allowed an opinion. I think the price point is WAY off! For me it would be a very expensive few minutes as my one year old wouldn't be able to participate in the activities mostly so I think a reduced price for a single 0-2 would have been sensible and siblings who are 0-2 of children who have paid full price should be free is where I think it would become more reasonable and you might get more people along. I'm definitely attracted to the fact it is local and that dulwich park is such a great place but for the price for my one year old I think I'll keep looking. Maybe when he is older and can actually participate it might seem slightly more worthwhile. Good luck with your event and remember its only as good as the people that attend it so hopefully you will get enough people buying tickets

Oh and ps I use a private individual (got the name off a friend) and I pay her ?10 an hour

I live in a 2 bed ground floor conversion and I had my cleaner whilst on mat leave for 1.5 hours and she managed to do loads.. So long as you are doing your own ironing and washing I would like 1.5 hours is ample for a 1 bed flat..

Albrighton community centre is reasonably priced and if you get a particular room there is a free bouncy castle.. Alternatively Peckham soft play is always an option as the kids are playing, noisy but effective.. For ?45 you get 45 mins soft play and then 45 mins upstairs for cake etc.. The second 45 mins did feel a little rushed but for our one year old it was the perfect amount of time x

Anyone's baby had a 24 hr impedance probe study?
Strawbs replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks hon that is encouraging! Mini strawbs was on 30mg of omeprazole a day and babu reduced it to 10mg, a few days ago they told me to out it back up to 30 plus increase his domperidone dosage and frequency and fingers crossed we haven't had the nightly exorcist episode for three nights! We are back to normal reflux vomits which I can totally handle! I'm hoping this continues. Babu's office called yesterday and said they have decided he will have a barium(sp?) X-ray test before we do the 24 hour study so now I'm just waiting on an appt for that.. I'm meeting Caroline at 9am if you fancy it? X -
