  1. deleted as i shouldn't have risen to the bait.
  2. also do the bf workshop via kings, it was very helpful. nct do cover it but worth doing both.
  3. if you can afford it, then definitely do it. best case you make friends for life, worst case you are well prepared for birth. but as other posters have said: book early to get a local class check the teacher covers everything and isn't biased against c-section for example (makes me angry that anyone would be made to feel bad about a c section from an antenatal instructor of all people) take the initiative at the end if nobody else does to go out for lunch as a group and swap email addresses etc. our teacher did a social calendar for us too which was great. I've been super lucky with my group but we were all keen to make friends too and that made it easy to get to know each other. we are on email constantly and i feel like I've made some really good friends.
  4. Also Fuschia you can always borrow back your double! ESP if it's just for one holiday!
  5. I was going to recommend the mountain buggy Swift (I bought the nappy lady's one and I love it so far) though it doesn't have a very big basket for storage you can hang a fairly large bag off the back, I have a buggy weight on the front to help with balance. My baby looks pretty comfy in there and sleeps well in it. Otherwise I wondered about the micralite twofold, you can put loads of stuff on the back if you have the bag instead of the second seat I think. unlikely to find one second hand though. Dont forget the pram shop on rye lane has loads of buggys that you can try in store.
  6. You could also try a soft spouted beaker as a transition between boob and cup.
  7. i dropped 3 feeds over about 4 weeks and didn't experience a crash, am still feeding twice a day so that could be why. but i did get lumpy boobs and mastitis, although i have to say im really prone to mastitis so i wouldn't worry too much about that! the advice i got was it takes your boobs between 3-7 days to adjust to each dropped feed. i like feeding only twice a day, its a nice cuddly feed in bed in the morning and i get to have a few more zzzz's sometimes too. the evening feed is less fun as he is normally hyper and distracted so we just do a little bit from each and then he gets a bottle!
  8. I agree, go to the MAU and get checked if you are at all worried.
  9. The pumps that seem to get the most recommendations are the medela swing and the ameda lactaline. I got the ameda as I Was able to borrow my friends first to see how I got on with it. I also recommend a pumping bra. If she doesn't want to pump, another suggestion is a nap before her other half goes to work. We do this and it works wonders on me. My husband gets up an hour earlier than me and looks after the baby. I know then I have an hour to sleep where I won't get interrupted. It helped to keep me sane when I was up in the night (not so often these days thank goodness) that I would get an hours kip. We don't always do it now but we did it almost every day in the early days. Otherwise if she is thinking of formula, mixed feeding might be the halfway house that works. But only if she is sure she wants to reduce bf.... From memory our cluster feeding started to reduce around 10 weeks...?
  10. Although you can simply use condoms during your fertile days, it doesn't mean abstaining. I found the book really interesting although I knew I would t be organised enough to follow it properly and you have to do it religiously to make it work, al least at first.
  11. There is a book.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/NATURAL-BIRTH-CONTROL-MADE-SIMPLE/dp/0897934032/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_5 A friend has used this for over 10 years and has had 100% success in both preventing and not preventing pregnancy!
  12. Did you buy t new? Surely stil under warranty?
  13. good for you sorry you felt embarrassed but i reckon she will keep one eye peeled for you before she does it again!
  14. not stupid!... no matter what a HV or anyone else says. great news she slept for longer again. hope it continues. i might try cutting down porridge here too, he drank hardly any milk today and had a massive breakfast.
  15. Annette! More, please more!
  16. also if you are with DMC then the lanes are also a caseload option, i had a home birth with them. i am pretty sure i was officially 'booked in' at kings as you need to be registered with a hospital and for example they have all my notes so it might just be a routine thing for your letter to say that. so don't worry! just call on monday.
  17. Oh my god I can't stop laughing at that photo
  18. Cheryl, do you think she is waking from hunger or could it be something else? There is a checklist in one of the books (not sure what one... Sears?) which goes through everything from teething to scratchy sleep suits etc... I'm pretty sure my baby's 4am waking was teeth pain, as we are mixed feeding and I use the hipp goodnight milk so I think he was not waking from hunger. But I don't really know.... Just counting my blessings he is waking at 530/6am now which makes me a little bit tired instead of 4 am which makes me insane.
  19. If cashewnut's pram is a cherry then it does recline almost as far as the bee, if not as far. So definitely try it for a few days before you commit to buying something new!
  20. I have the bee and love it. But we are looking for something with bigger wheels and an easier fold for travelling later in the year. Have narrowed it down to micralite, baby jogger or the nipper 360. Need to go for a try out. And re the sling, you might find he likes it more when he is bigger. My baby has just started to enjoy being in a sling, he is almost 7 months. S don't give up on it yet!
  21. i don't think sterilisation gets rid of milk, its the washing bit thats important for that. I'm still sterilising and will probably continue to for now. i am not sure why!
  22. Maybe visit the HV? I went yesterday and she said as long as they get over 600ml then that is sufficient. I don't feel that would be enough for my baby but only because he is not showing signs of wanting to drop any milk feeds despite eating a fair amount of solids. Otherwise Saffrons suggestion is a good one ie offer some milk first. I do this at the lunchtime feed.
