Keep up the good work :) and thank you for your kind words
  3. I know this is probably a pretty strange thing to put on here i suppose, but i wanted to say a big public thank you to the staff at kings college hospital, especially the staff on the Davidson ward and hematology. In december i was Diagnosed with a high grade stage four non hodgkins Lymphoma, i had it under my arm and on my spine, i was whisked in for nearly 5 months of intensive chemotherapy, spending most of that time in hospital on the davidson ward, the staff were fantastic from the doctors to the nurses to the staff serving food, they kept my moral up , and leapt to action at every sign of infection due to having no immune system at all, when times were bad and dark they looked after my mental health and gave support to my partner and family if needed. last wednesday i was told i was all clear of cancer and in full remission. I have a lot more visits in the future to make sure it stays away, but just wanted to thank them all for saving my life, ( i know some read this forum) Thank you to my boss who decided that statutory sick pay was shite and has kept me on full pay through out all this. And thank you East dulwich forum for keeping me entertained whilst i was in my hospital bed on my laptop, i feel i know you all now :) I was sitting in the garden of lucas having a coffee with my friend in the sun today, thinking how lucky i am to be here. Sorry about the long post, hope no one fell asleep, just wanted to get that off my chest :)
  4. A friend of mine has just been looking to rent in ED. It was made clear that most of the landlords would accept offers on the rent near the asking price, she finally rented a lovely two bed flat for just over ?100 per month less then the rent advertised.
  5. Have been watching the bats that shoot passed our french windows in the garden at dusk, they seem to be attracted by the flying insects that head for the security lights the foxes set off
  6. Was in somerfields this afternoon, the young lad stacking fruit and veg sneezed twice into his gloves, wiped them down on his trousers and continued stacking, " nice" i said to him,he just looked and carried on, if your not going to get swine flu you will get something from the apples probably :/
  7. We had the opposite problem when we cleared out our flat when we moved from Blackheath to Dulwich 3 years ago, we had a skip out the front and was fascinated by the people we saw rummaging around, they took half the stuff in it and it was all a load of tat, old clothes curtains broken china and appliances etc, one woman pulled up in a van, put on some marigold gloves and piled most of it in her van, it saved us getting another skip, we got to the stage where we would put stuff in and hide behind the blinds in the kitchen waiting for someone to come along, we didn't have a long wait, word must have got around, i felt like Bill Oddie on nature watch.
  8. During easter i took my little nephew and niece to the horniman to see the aquarium, all buggies were left in "parking" areas around the museum, made me smile as it looked like an enormous buggy show room. A little girl came up and hugged kissed my surprised 18 month old niece by giving her a kiss and a hug, her mum rushed up and said, " sorry about that i dont know where she gets that from, its not me, it must be her nanny". Only in Dulwich :)
  9. a Japanese virgin at that who's bloodline can be traced right back through the imperial line
  10. Good luck, will check out your sponsorship page. As for me i was diagnosed with non hogkins lymphoma in december, i am currently in kings having my last course of treatment, i was in over 90% remission by the halfway stage so hopefully looking good for my final scans, will definatly be giving you my support
  11. There is a McDonalds around the corner from where i work, my guilty pleasure is occasionally popping in with my paper and having an egg and bacon burger with a large coffee, If my other half found out my bags would be on the street. Their Coffee is powerful though, by the time i get to work i think people think i have popped a pill of speed. :)
  12. My partner has reserved the space at the back where the Dj decks are a couple of times for birthday gatherings and they were really helpful and allowed us to play our own music through our ipod as well, and everyone ends up ordering food which they coped with quite well, we have reserved the odd table now and again for when visiting friends come down we always end up having their fab burgers :)

    a joke

A woman looked at her husband and sighed " i wish my tits were bigger. The husband looked up and handed her a wad of toilet paper and said, "here use this". "what's that for"? she asked. "to rub on your tits" he replied, "it worked on your arse"

    a joke

A Jelly baby walks into the doctors with liquorice stuck to his willy. The doctor asks "What the hell have you been up too ? " The jelly baby replies "f**king allsorts!"
  15. Just to give a bit of balance, i bought a lovely piece of furniture there with no probs, they were helpful and were prompt with the delivery, we go in quite a few times just for a browse and to see if there is anything new and find the staff helpful and chatty. maybe thy need to just brush up their customer care skills when something does go wrong, they probably will when they have read this thread.
  16. I love it there, mainly been on a saturday morning for a nice fat fry up and a mug of tea, don't mind waiting occasionally a bit longer gives me time to browse the papers, the two ladies i see normally cooking and serving are always pleasant and go that extra way by asking how you want your eggs done or how crispy you want your bacon, they an be a bit scatty but i think it adds to the appeal :)
  17. That was a blast from the past, reminds me of my heady college days and remember it being played at many a party. Think it was from the crocodile dundee sound track, i bought the 12' single and remember something from the film being on the cover, cant believe that was 23 years ago. I am very scared :)
  18. I have had mine a few months now, took me awhile to get used to the texting with my not so dainty fingers, but fine with it now. You can download a lot of free applications ( journey planners, restaurant finders etc) and i don't have an i pod so its like having the next best thing. also i don't have access to a computer a lot of the time during my working day due to the type of job so its great for a quick look at e-mails or the internet.
  19. Getting diagnosed with lymphoma in december and embarking on four months of chemotherapy, halfway through now and its all but gone, but has totally changed my out look on life and appreciate things i took for granted before, i will never think "it wont happen to me" ever again And it made me realize how strong my partner, family and friends are and how lucky i am. but i have been so bored in hospital i have been on my lap top for ages and finally had tim to delve into the forum :)
  20. Hi candj. Yes the canapes looked really impressive when you had them fanned out on the serving dishes, i have used gold leaf quite a few times in my own work, friends asked me to make them a four tier chocolate cake for their wedding and i used the gold to bring it out a bit. I had a crispy chili catfish in chang ria, it was bought out whole to the table and you shredded it like crispy duck, and lets just say it wasn't small. It was in a restaurant called cabbages and condoms, thankfully it wasn't a reference to their signature dish.
  21. candj Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Asset, gold leaf is delicious, especially on > chocolate! I worked with a head chef once who used to wrap a thin piece of parma ham around the base of a piece of asparagus, then over that he would wrap a thin band of gold leaf and serve it as a canape, didn't try it myself, thought it would set my teeth off. ( i can't unwrap the foil on a kitkat without them going all funny )
  22. He has had to put off the building of his own hadron collider under his restaurant, putting paid to his "toad in a black hole"
  23. I have had nothing but admiration for the staff at kings, in November i found a lump under my arm and my doctors sent me to kings immediately, and they went into swift action, was even sent to the scanning dept to make an appointment, and as i walked out of the building the receptionist rang my mobile and told me i was booked for a scan two day later. Unfortunately i was diagnosed with non Hodgkin's lymphoma, but i have been swiftly treated, the ward i am on (the davidson) is ultra modern with separate rooms for each patient with very dedicated staff, i am monitored 24/7 for infections and other complications and feel very safe. I do think with the NHS as a Whole if you have a minor operation or something not so scary as cancer it can take a long time to be treated, and in such a large organization Admin mistakes do happen, But if you have something very serious they do throw everything at you and leave nothing to chance, its not perfect i know, but i do know the staff work under extreme conditions and do try to limit the mistakes. its not great when you are at the end of one of these mistakes, so hopefully they will get less and less as time goes on. I was sent to a private harley street doctor by my boss to speed things up in the beginning, the doctor took one blood test (?172), poked my lump with one finger, said i need another blood test (another ?172) and said he didn't think it was cancer. the next day the NHS diagnosed me after 5 days and i was straight in hospital for my first chemo
