  1. By the way, if anyone is "turned" by gay characters in soaps, you'll receive a welcome pack, complete with gay agenda & card, also a nice gift box of herbal teas. (ps I saw a scene with Phil Mitchell seductively peeling off his overalls, and & nearly became straight)
  2. Two brothers all the way for us *whispers* they deliver too... normally on the days I am so lazy that I can't walk let alone cook :)
  3. Goodness, just seen this thread..hilarious ! apart from being a "pink convert" (might own that one) I must check with my sister to make sure it's ok that myself and my Civil partner/husband can still see my niece and nephew before the watershed. I must also start watching all the soaps, I mean what the hell are the gays up to before the watershed that straight characters aren't ? sounds saucy ;)
  4. I was involved in an accident a few years ago where a lady was on the wrong side of the road and hit my car head on...Luckily no injuries, But her insurers tried to claim there were cars parked on both sides of the road & we were both passing down the centre and that I should have given way. This was not the case, my side of the road was clear, there were double yellow lines on my side of the road, and off road parking her side, she said she was looking for a house number and didn't realise she had strayed into my side of the road at the time to me. I took pictures of the road to illustrate this, but it still went for knock for knock and my no claims was lost. Do not give up on finding a witness though, One eventually came forward 2 years later through my network of friends (long story, and this already too long) My no claims was reinstated and I received compensation for extra money I had to pay out on insurance due to this. Don't give up and hopefully someone will come forward.
  5. we live in a three-flat building, when a place is sold or let, they bang the post into the small wall at the front with nails, even when the seller asks them not to, and now some bricks are loose after the years of hammering in large nails, apparently it had to be rebuilt the year before we moved in because of this. Now, as we own the freehold, I tend to ring if they do it again and say they will be charged for damage, it gets moved. Also we ask anyone selling or renting to request they use ties and a post to advertise and not the wall at all as any damage will incur a charge from the management company. They have obliged so far.
  6. I correct myself ...the bikes are on flint street just after where Thurlow road turns into it, opposite that little row of shops "or the village" as estate agents would call it. Also there were a lot more bikes there then I thought :)
  7. furthest south I've seen near us is on thurlow street just passed the aylesbury estate, opposite the "village kebab" not that many bikes on it compared to others
  8. I'm from Hemel originally and have traveled from here to there now and again..it can take well over two hours by car due to traffic through centre of town, and the M1, forget the M25, I've spent three hours going that way before, ridiculous ! not a great journey by car. you did the right thing by train via euston station and getting the direct train. When my mum lived in Edgware which is a bit nearer it took me 2 and half hours on more then one occasion, I'm so relieved she's moved back to islington now. I'd only drive before 6am or after 8pm :)

It just seems a simple > get-out for restaurants who are risk-averse. > > How do some places get away with it and others > claim they can't? Seems like the usual H&S > scaremongering without any facts to back it up. I've worked in catering as a chef for nearly 28yrs, done numerous health and safety courses and food safety courses over the years, intermediate, and a full time two year RIPPH course at Thames valley university, and this has never come up as a policy of law regarding burgers, beef is one of those foods that can be served rare in the case of joints and steaks as bacteria are not present in high numbers in the inside of beef tissue, mainly due to its high density and lack of oxygen. Any bacteria present is usually on the outside exposed to air. hence the need for searing on a high temperature on the outside before serving. steak tartare is served straight after the meat is trimmed of the outside surface then minced. Burger mince on the other hand is not served straight after mincing and being made into patties, if the beef is not trimmed before mincing, you can get the mixing external bacteria through out the mince. (see also unclean mincers) If the burgers are made fresh that morning and kept below 5c then there should be no problems as long as the burger is sealed on the outside to kill off any bacteria that may have settled on the surface. There are no FSA rules against serving raw beef products as long as general health and hygiene food practices are adhered to, but this is under review due to the rising popularity of rare gourmet burgers, and a report is due out this year I think, with new possible guidelines. So I guess at the moment it's more a case of over caution on the part of some restaurants or councils in fear of litigation should anything go wrong, a more of a better safe than sorry policy. I've worked all over the city, west London, and north London, and haven't yet worked in a restaurant where rare burgers have been banned... yet.
  10. I think about this thread every time I cycle up a small side road near St Pancras station to and from work. It's a parking spot for cabbies having a break, and the kerb is full of these bottles, most get squashed and I can tell you it's definitely Pee, the smell is awful, I normally whip up my traffic mask, in the summer it makes my eyes sting it's that bad. On a few times I have cycled past and seen a cabbie just relieving himself up the only tree by the kerb as if he hasn't a care in the world... i'm surprised this tree hasn't keeled over yet ! There are no houses along this rd so thats something I suppose :/
  11. I have used the 7.34 to get to kentish town from Peckham Rye for about 6 yrs now. It was not to bad to begin with. I steadily moved more to cycling to get fitter and save some money, but used the train more during the winter. Now it's got so horribly over crowded that I find it less stressful cycling in the cold & wet then it is trying get through the passive aggressive scrum to get a foot hold on the train at that time now. I only go now if I'm going out straight from work & can't very well turn up in my cycling gear or drink if I cycle, I dread the commute by train now.
  12. Sad about this, we went there many a time and had such a friendly rapport with the staff and the owners, loved it in the summer in the outside bit. Shame, nothing seems to last long in that space.
  13. We had our ground floor flat on underhill valued in the spring last year by Foxtons, it was basically double what we paid in 2007.. we were tempted to sell and move out of the area to somewhere cheaper and get a house. But when we factored in the cost of moving and the fact we would use up all the equity on a new home much further out (which would end up myself paying more to travel in for work as it would be too far to cycle) And also leave an area where most of our friends (and our lovely neighbours) and some family live, and where we love all the local amenities, we decided against it. There's no way we could afford to buy here again, even with the equity from our flat ...or even our own flat if we came across it now. But having seen that some properties that went up for sale at that time we had the valuation still haven't sold all these months further on has made wonder if properties are being overvalued. I have to say, I was impressed by Foxtons, I thought we might be badgered about making our mind up to sell after we asked them around, but we didn't hear a peep until 6 months later when someone rang to ask if we were still thinking of selling at some point.
  14. But you are troll Louisa simples your goal is to provoke, and it works...also I won't give it a rest if I see something that should be challenged ..that's what happens on forums, If you can't make your case with out being sneering or insulting (get a life for example) then expect to be challenged. Pubs do make money from quizzes, they happen not that often, so there are plenty of nights you can nurse your stout in the corner sniping at the world. And they have been around for a long time, (I went to a few as a student in the 80s) just because you don't like them ...as with lots of things you don't like,(certain restaurants bars, peole etc ) you just get insulting and vile. You can be rest assured I won't bother you again as it's boring and repetitive ( like your posts )You can even have the last sneering word if you like...go for it. Back on topic I Just think a lot of the chain pubs like young's stole the taverns thunder, the Dulwich woodhouse is rammed in the summer on a sunday (well it was last time I went last year) shame to lose such a lovely big garden, not many of those about these days. I went to the Florence last week for the first time, really nice, garden wasn't huge though & half was taken over by the room built out there near the outside bar, I think it was used for somewhere kids could run about away from the adults :) If they are building flats there I wouldn't like to be living in one on that corner of that junction, bad enough when I had a flat opposite the church near there, I could feel every lorry rumbling pass.
  15. I think you'll find a lot of people like going to pub quizzes, the silver post is packed on their nights...there are a lot of nights that pubs don't have quizzes for people who don't like them to go on. Good grief you really hate to see people enjoy themselves Louisa, He probably played the troll card as you are quite the professional at it. I am not surprised the Tavern site is being developed into flats...it's not worked for a while as a pub/restaurant I watched it slowly go down hill when I lived opposite.
  16. 363 running about every 15 mins when I caught it, no 63 at all, so bus was full by time it got to east Dulwich road/Peckham rye..also due to more people getting trains I was barely just able to get on train at Peckham rye, it was like the hunger games there this morning ! ;)
  17. just checked my bus checker for routes near me on underhill. 363 seems to be running every 25 minutes, and 185 around every 20. 176, p13 are not showing up at all
  18. None of our local buses are on the list on the TFL website of bus routes NOT affected tomorrow, so I am geussing its best to think of the worst case scenario and plan ahead for tomorrow :/
  19. possibly Dulwich fox... but I reckon unlikely ..there's money to be made ( mine were over ?80 each to replace )..the ones stolen were pristine, the ones left were damaged and unsellable. My neighbours were also from a limited model car, so probably would fetch some dosh on ebay, (they were also attached by metal cable ties, so someone had to have some pliers on them to remove them) Sometimes they can fly off, which probably happened to the one you saw, but the chances of more than one doing that at the same time are remote. Have had a car vandalised though, about 5 yrs ago, someone lovingly etched the word "vex" in large letters on the bonnet...also on several other neighbours cars on the same road :/
  20. south east twenty stu, big eye roll in your direction, as it's pretty clear it was intentional with the comma, are you that bored ? or do you generally feel your that amusing, well done. love a pedantic me :) anyway back on topic. I would've done that uncleglen, trouble is I have a lease car & have to keep it in the condition I leased it in...but if it happens again I'll probably do as you have and get some cheap ones until I return the car in a couple of years, then replace them with the proper ones.I have even scratched the new ones up a bit, so any thief wanting to sell them as new, in pristine condition might be put off. ( my two rear ones were not touched as I am rubbish at parking by the kerb and have scraped those ones a bit, the front were not so bad, as I'm more rubbish at forward parking, so tend to reverse park)
  21. Thanks James, just been looking into that funnily enough, so will try that. I know it's probably a trivial thing in the great scheme of things, Its just annoying when you have to pay out to replace them, Felt really sorry for my neighbour today, I had two taken, but all four is costly enough. It's obviously a very organised lot, pinching them to order probably, all ready equipped with cutters to remove cable ties
  22. Update on hubcap theft ...I had to replace mine at a hefty cost,(my cars leased, so have no choice) now secured with metal cable ties, but this will only slow any thieve down, not prevent theft...as my neighbour found out this morning as all four of theirs were taken overnight, which were also secured with cable ties. Recently found out one of my other neighbours has had so many stolen over the years that they have given up replacing them. So it seems Underhill road is an... errr Hub of hubcap theft, I guess
  23. .... I forgot about the Alpine delivery...a van that delivered bottles of flavoured soda (alpine was the brand) ....good grief we were so lazy in the 70's with all these deliveries, I'm surprised my family left the house at all ! I think there are rules now about accepting money from tips, remember a friend of mine who's been a postie for years saying they are a thing of the past now.
  24. Same here, I remember in the 70's when I was growing up, my parents & neighbours knew our postman, bin men & milk man well, they all got a little something.. The postman ( who if I remember well, was nicknamed "running Ron, & his tip always was in bottle form )... you couldn't forget the paper boy who would knock and wish you a merry xmas with his hand held out :) I have no idea who empties our bin or delivers mail these days, Don't even know if we have the same people every week, so wouldn't know who to tip, I'm sure they would appreciate it though. I forgot about the coal man ! ...GOD, I"M SOOO OLD !
  25. cheers will do....only if they deliver in gilded carriages, as I have let my peasants off for the week, so nobody around to carry my sedan
